SMTP (+auth) confusing issues...

Hiya, I've got a small problem, i'm using the beta, on a gentoo server, with php 5.1.1 ( with sockets ), and i setup round cube to use smtp as follows : $rcmail_config['smtp_server'] = 'smtp.myhost'; $rcmail_config['smtp_port'] = 25; $rcmail_config['smtp_user'] = '%u'; $rcmail_config['smtp_pass'] = '%p'; $rcmail_config['smtp_auth_type'] = ''; $rcmail_config['smtp_log'] = TRUE; ( of course with my real mail host. :) ) and i try send mail from roundcube, and well... it umm... just ... vanishes :P i sent a test message to test123(a)hotmail.com, just to create entries in my log file, unix01 webmailBeta # grep test123 /var/log/* unix01 webmailBeta # so, it's not falling back to mail() nor is it working with smtp : root@mx01:~# grep test123\(a)hotmail.com /var/log/mail.log root@mx01:~# root@mx02:/etc/postfix# grep test123\(a)hotmail.com /var/log/mail.log root@mx02:/etc/postfix# so i'm pretty much stumped, it appears in my imap folder, and it says it's sent, and in the logs directory i've got a sendmail log with the following line in it : [22-Mar-2006 13:51:48 +0200] User: 21 on 196.36.11.162; Message for test123(a)hotmail.com; Subject: (no subject) so, any ideas ? P

Large mailboxes

Roundcube seems to have some difficulty dealing with large mailboxes (large meaning thousands of messages). It can manage indexing one of these, but if I try to actually show a message in a large mailbox, it basically hangs. When this happens, the browser just sits there waiting for a reply, and I can do a 'top' on the server and watch the apache process just eat up memory until it finally dies. It seems that Roundcube is digging through the mail and not releasing memory in some way, which becomes a problem as the mailbox size gets large. At least that's my theory. Does anyone else observe this? This is with Apache 1.3.34, PHP 5.1.2, MySQL 4.1.18 and Cyrus 2.2.12, running on FreeBSD 4.11p14. Thanks! -- Mark Edwards

Frames and loading Compose window?

I am running roundcube in a frame and when I click the compose it doesnt loadwithin its frame it takes over the whole window. has anyone else run into this problem? or know of the logic behind it that would cause it? I've checked the code and its similar to the rest of the commands that load the other calls. Like reply and forward. They all load with in the frame like thier suppose to. Where to go after deleting an email?

If you are viewing the contents of an email message, and you press the delete button, where should you go? Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail take you to the next message. Gmail takes you back to the message list. Currently, RC|Mail takes you back to the message list. I think I prefer being taken to the next message. Attached is a patch which will cause RC|Mail to do exactly that: display the next message, unless you are viewing the last message, in which case, take you back to the message list. -- Jacob Brunson BYU Chemistry Department Webmaster

LDAP Functionality - does it exist?

Hey All, So far, I'm liking this RoundCube mail client. I would like to know though, what do I need to do to get the LDAP Address Book functionality to work on Debian? I've got roundcube working, but each attempt to use the LDAP Directory search results in an error in /var/www/roundcube/log/errors that says : [30-Mar-2006 21:15:58 -0500] LDAP Error: No ldap support in this installation of php. in on line 0 I've installed libapache2-mod-php4 and php4-ldap from the debian repositories. I've also used pear to download and install DB_ldap2 and Net_ldap (both beta versions) and I still get this error. I've looked at the file program/include/rcube_ldap.inc and the error is generated by line :47 that says : if (!function_exists('ldap_connect')) raise_error(array("type" => "ldap", "message" => "No ldap support in this installation of php."), TRUE); I don't know PHP at all or I'd be able to help here, but I'm lost. Help, can't view new messages.

I cannot view any new/unread messages. If I click on new icon (blue star) that change into read icon (grey dot), I can view the messages. This hasn't work since beta release. I am now using latest RCW CVS snapshot; it has fixed many bugs I was experiencing, except for viewing new/unread messages. I am using PMDF as IMAP server. Any clues? Or if you don't know the cause or don't have time, then can you point which file I can look at? Shawn

search: intended behavior?

Just wanted to make sure that roundcube is doing the expected thing with putting the searches in the session data in the database, and not erasing the data (ever, I think?) but just appending new searches, so the session data gets larger and larger? I presume this is for caching, but it surprised me when looking through the mysql logs to have pages of messages #s in the session data.

PEAR::isError() broken

I've been working on getting roundcube mail to work with some of our packages here at Red Hat, by the way you guys have done a great job! Par for the course with early development I hit some snags, that's to be expected. I'm currently trying to get SMTP to work (we use TLS) and I wasn't getting any error messages. I finally tracked it down to what appears to be a typo in PEAR::isError() function isError($data) { return (bool)(is_object($data) && (get_class($data) == 'pear_error' || is_subclass_of($data, 'pear_error'))); } The class name is PEAR_Error not pear_error, thus PEAR::isError() always returns false and errors are never caught. Once I fixed that debugging got a whole lot easier :-) BTW, DB:isError() appears to be fine, also the problem appears to still be in the CVS version of PEAR.php. On a couple of other notes: I noticed a lot of the smtp functions don't check for errors. Also it would be nice if when an error is encountered it was logged to a file. log_bug() in bugs.inc seems like the right logging function to call when errors are detected, right? I'm happy to make some patches if you're willing to take them. Has anyone started work on an RPM yet? virtuser_query for identities

Here's a small patch that allows roundcube to run a query to fill a new user's identities. In config/main.inc.php I use the following line for my setup: $rcmail_config['virtuser_query'] = 'SELECT address FROM mail.virtual WHERE alias REGEXP \'(^|,)%u(,|$)\' AND NOT (address LIKE \'@%\')'; This ensures that new users get at least one valid email address in their identities, since on my system not everybody has an address $username@$config['mail_domain']. Maybe it would be even nicer if the query was used not only with a new user, but every time on login. Somehow. order by date screwed up

Hi, right now the current cvs trunk orders by date in a very strange way. I suspect it has something to do with me using an ISO-ish date format string (Y-m-d H:S) to display dates in the date column. In any case the last couple of day entries end up between older (above) and really old (below) mails. Sorting done after translating to user's timeformat instead of before? Auke

Here is my problem. I have been rying to install the roundcube mail on an integreted php dev with built in support for php, mysql(on windows) as well since the last four days. I am frustrated as I dont know much about the PHP thing. I was asked by my client to integrate the product wiht one of the applications. I stated with getting the error 500 which I removed and then got as error regarding the PATHSEPERATOR . Then I included the line : if (!defined('PATH_SEPARATOR')) define('PATH_SEPARATOR', ';'); at top of my index.php file as suggested by one of the gentlemen.Thereafter I did not get as error but the screen I get is blank. In the server Log it says : [24-Apr-2006 15:31:25] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function: query() in c:\phpdev\www\roundcubemail\program\include\rcube_db.inc on line 213 I tried to change the function and looked out for it but I found that the function does not expect any arguments but the line which calls it does send it two arguments. multipart bug

In have a person who is sending me mail with a multipart/mixed mail with this header: --===============1505479739== Content-Type: text/plain; charset=unknown-8bit Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit The problem is that RC doesn't show the contents of this part. Yes I know, it has a badly set charset, which I have already claimed to him about this configuration problem in his email client, but I guess there has to be some kind of failure-comeback to at least see something. Ghost e-mails

Hi, Now I'm sure this is a 'feature', but I'm trying to understand the rationale behind it. If I view my e-mails in RCW, then move some of those messages into another folder using a *different application*, the messages still appear in the old place in RCW, but greyed out. Clicking on them allows me to view the correct e-mail no matter where it has been moved. My question is, is there anyway to turn that off? Things get very messy if you move things back and forth, you can get multiple ghosts of the same e-mail!! Thanks, Richard

sorting patch

This patch doesn't work for me. My new incoming mail generally ends up somewhere in the middle of the list, rather than at the top. Double-clicking on each message works, but then the next and previous message buttons, don't go in order, but jump around. Attachment size problem

hello, on my system there is a RC, with PHP 4.3.11. In php.ini, there are these options: file_uploads = On upload_max_filesize = 10M when i want to send a mail with a more bigger attachment, i get this error (at this time i try with 2.9MB): Warning: rmdir(temp/229457485442309f8c01a8): Directory does not empty /usr/local/rcmail/program/steps/mail/func.inc on line 1384. The mail was sended, but recipient doesn't get the attachment. In that directory, there is this structure: $RCROOT/temp/229457485442309f8c01a8/rcmAttmntZx7bFv but file is empty (0 byte length). what may be the problem? thanks: a.

MacOS Safari

I was surprised to find that ctrl+click does not work in the inbox in the popular Safari browser on MacOS. Shift+click works fine, just not ctrl+click. Works fine in Firefox and IE. Also, the scrollbar does not work in the inbox list surprisingly. I can see the bar, but it just won't move. I'm using the latest release of Safari on Mac OSX Tiger and the latest stable beta of RoundCube. If you want to really screw up the interface, try sending yourself an HTML email using <DIVS> to layout the page. All of the graphics end up in the upper-left-most corner of the browser window behind the roundcube logo. This seems to be true across IE and Firefox.

Hey Guys(A developer In trouble)

Hey Guys, I chacked in the logs of the server and got the error php_flag not allowed here(in C:\phpdev\www\roundcubemail-0.1beta\config\ht.access). Hence I first set it as Off which was previously on. But when it didnt work I removed the entry inteslf. Then the log indicated that the C:\phpdev\www\roundcubemail-0.1beta\config\ht.access value not allowed here. I followed the above step and now the error changed and in the explorer it showed: Fatal error: Failed opening required 'include/rcube_shared.inc' (include_path='c:/phpdev/www/roundcubemail-0.1beta/PATH_SEPARATORc:/phpdev/www/roundcubemail-0.1beta/programPATH_SEPARATORc:/phpdev/www/roundcubemail-0.1beta/program/libPATH_SEPARATOR.;C:/phpdev/php/includes;C:/phpdev/php/class') in c:\phpdev\www\roundcubemail-0.1beta\index.php on line 73 Now as per some suggestions I copied all the corresponding configuration files to the config folder of the C:\phpdev\www\roundcubemail-0.1beta\config folder but to no avail.I also checked the index.php and figured out that the files that the server was hunting. So I copied those files: require_once('include/rcube_shared.inc'); require_once('include/rcube_imap.inc'); require_once('include/bugs.inc'); require_once('include/main.inc'); require_once('include/cache.inc'); require_once('PEAR.php'); to the folders I thought the server might be looking into but the error still remains the same. HTML E-Mails from eBay

Hi, I use Roundcube 0.1beta and I have problems with E-Mails from eBay. I only get a blank page, with all other html mails it works. I attached the source of an eBay mail maybe someone can figure it out what causes this problem. Hey Guys, I've been assigned a job of integrating the roundcube mail server with the ruby on rails framework. I personally believe that it is a immensely rich interface for the web clients. The problem I'm facing that, though I have successfully edited the files main.Php and the db.php and renamed em as well and placed the roundcube folder under the document root of my web Server which is Apache, still I get an error 500 as a configuration error. The question I want to ask is that what may have gone wrong. Just to elaborate the things a bit more is that I have three versions of MySql installed,one coming with the phpdev tool, one with ruby on rails framework and finally the one that is standalone. I have the php engine running through the php dev tool itself which I think runs automatically with the php dev tool. I have little or ya can assume no knowledge of PHP and presently stuck please help me out of this. Another thing I want to ask is that : Is the apache web server comes integrated with the IMAP server capability since the roundcube is a IMAP client I assume. rr dns proxies and session timeouts

Hi, I'm working behind a rrdns proxy setup and roundcube (0.1beta) is just impossible to use - every minute or so the session throws me out even when I am typing a message. I hope this can be fixed ;^) Auke

Bug in headers' UTF-8 encoding ?

hello all, I make some tests with RoundCube and I think there is a little problem with headers' UTF8 encoding: I'm trying to send a mail with the subject: "c'est le printemps et bientôt l'été !". If I choose iso8859-1 encoding here is the result: Subject: c'est le printemps et =?ISO-8859-1?Q?bient=F4t?= l'=?ISO-8859-1?Q?=E9t=E9?= ! If I choose utf8 encoding I get: Subject: c'est le printemps et =?UTF-8?Q?bient=C3=B4t?= l'=?UTF-8?Q?=C3=A9t=C3?==?UTF-8?Q?=A9?= ! which is not displayed correctly: only the first eacute is displayed. I do not know the utf8 encoding but it seems that two special characters in the same word results in bad utf8 encoding. Christophe.

If you feel like doing it yourself and you have some programming skills, this is a pretty easy fix..read below.. I'm using a pre-beta version of roundcube, but I was able to fix this with a quick hack telling it *not* to reorder the view in the 'Sent' folder if 'to' exists in the $CONFIG['list_cols'] global. Line numbers may vary based on the version you are using, so please don't hold me to them!! If you do try to fix it, please make sure you backup your current func.inc file :) On line 257 in program/steps/mail/func.inc in function rcmail_message_list I replaced: if (strtolower($IMAP->get_mailbox_name())=='sent' && ($f = array_search('from', $a_show_cols))) $a_show_cols[$f] = 'to'; with: if (strtolower($IMAP->get_mailbox_name())=='sent' && ($f = array_search('from', $a_show_cols)) && ($t != array_search('to', $a_show_cols))) { $a_show_cols[$f] = 'to'; } You will also need to do the same on line 378 in function rcmail_js_message_list. (P.S. I added the brackets out of habit...keeps the conditionals straight in my head!) BUG: Typo in skins/default/templates/compose.html

On an older thread entitled "Word wrapping when composing a mail" Roger mentioned a fix to my issue as below. I notice that this has not been commited to cvs yet. Hi, my rc-0.1beta has the annoying problem of truncating the 'quoted' part of a message that I reply to after a '!'. You should see be able to reproduce this quite easily - just hit reply to this message, and everything after a !!! will be missing in the quoted message. Magic_quotes==off on my server. Auke

First of all, I just want to say that I love this interface. I haven't been as excited about an open source webmail effort in a very long time. I'm testing some extensions and wanted to know if there was already work underway to address these efforts. There are a few things that I would like to add to this as optional facilities that anyone wishing to deploy this in their environment could do through the main.inc.php settings. First, I'd like to add RSS feed capabilities similar to what Thunderbird already offers. Second, I'd like to add blog support that lets you use the webmail interface to post stuff to your blog. Third, I'd like to see IM presence enabled to let users know if any of their contacts are online as they are reading their e-mail and give them a quick access to initiating an IM session directly from their e-mail. =Alain

HTML mail Display problem / moving email problem

Me three. Has anybody figured this problem out? Like Rusty, I'm willing to set somebody up with a test account. I'm using the current stable version (0.1beta?), hMailServer is the mail server, firefox/IE both have the blank display problem. I've examined the page using firefox's dom inspector, the place where the email should be is entirely empty. There are no JavaScript errors. Thunderbird reads the HTML emails just fine. I'm also having issues with dragging and dropping emails into folders. It works half the time, and the other half they're right back where they were when you open the inbox again. [Feature request] Mark folder read

Mark folder read would be a wonderful function i'm missing in the current versions and also on development road. Why that? UTF problems (bugs)

When ever I go back to the INBOX screen, say from seeing a message, or from a composing message that just got sent, the default encoding changes from UTF to ISO-8859-1. Also, even when the UTF encoding is correctly set, if a message comes in with ISO-8859-1 encoding, it's not converted, and so, it's not viewed correctly. -- --------------------------------------------------------- Lic. IRC Channel?

Problematic Characters in To:

Hello all, I'm running the latest official release v0.1-beta and can not test a CVS version here, so if it was fixed already, please ignore this message. My users keep adding special characters in their addressbook screen names. Problematic ones are e.g. ",", ";", etc. I've noticed that the "," was fixed in the latest beta, but the ";" was not. This results in a similar problem: the MTA tries to send to two adresses... While the fix for the "," was to add quotes around the screen name I guess that's the same for the ";" and I wonder why the screen name is not always enclosed in quotes anyway (which leaves the quotes to be treated specially)? Cannot View E-mail

I can login to roundcube just fine. I see my folders and messages. When I double click on an e-mail the following shows up in the log file and I get a blank page. I can however print an e-mail just fine. I am running Mandriva Linux 10.1. PHP 4.3.8 and PCRE is enabled. Any help would be appreciated. If I recall correctly there were some issues regarding line endings in headers, etc. a while ago. After that a new option was added: // this string is used as a delimiter for message headers when sending $rcmail_config['mail_header_delimiter'] = "\r\n"; I just stumbled over an explanation why there is a need for different line endings (not sure if that was clarified yet). The problem is that the behavior of mail() is different on Windows and Unix systems. On Windows mail() connects to an SMTP server to send, while on Unix it usually uses a local command which then forwards the mail to the MTA of the system. The result is that on Windows you need to use the line endings defined in the mail specification for headers and body: "\r\n" Some MTAs will get a little confused when you use only "\n" on a Windows system. Especially good old friend qmail is very picky and will simply refuse mails without the needed \r. On Unix the MTA usually uses a "sendmail interface" which assumes that it receives Unix line endings (\n) and will change them to "\r\n". So using a "\r\n" in this case will result in "\r\r\n" which of course is wrong. Instead we only need to use "\n" in mail(). Does anyone know how Macs send mail() (afaik they only use \r as line endings)? Perhaps we can add some kind of autodetection with this info (but let the user override it if he has a special setup)?
