Text search - timeouts and other issues

My INBOX has > 10,000 messages. When doing a text search in the body across those messages, I'm ALWAYS getting a timeout the first time. Sometimes also when doing it a second time. But when doing it at least the third time (but sometimes at the second attempt already), I get a result within a few seconds. Is there anything we can do server-side which can improve this? IMAP server is Cyrus. Furthermore, how does the text search work at all in detail? If I enter for instance "term1 term2" (without the quotation marks), does RC look for "term1" OR "term2", or does it look for "term1" AND "term2"? And if the latter, does it look for "term1 term2" as an exact phrase, or does it look separately for "term1" AND "term2" anywhere in the body? And do quotation marks have a meaning at all? Our users are asking us this, and currently we don't have a good answer for them. Last but not least: Will there be a header only search available in the near future? Security updates 0.9.5 and 0.8.7

Dear Roundcube users We just published new releases which fix a recently reported vulnerability that allows an attacker to overwrite configuration settings using user preferences. This can result in random file access, manipulated SQL queries and even code execution. The latter one only affects versions 0.8.6 and older. Beside the security fix, the 0.9.5 release also includes other minor bug fixes and improvements. Most notably it brings the default spell checker back after Google suspended their public spell checking service. Please update your installations with the new versions or patch them with the fixes listed below for the various older versions of Roundcube. identity_select hook for 0.9.4

Hi Alec, would it be a big deal to make the identity_select hook available for 0.9.4, too? Looking at the commit and as the plugin itself does exist already, this would be only 5 lines of new/changed code. Reply-To header in SVN list messages

Currently the messages in the SVN list have these addresses in the Reply-To header: ------------------------------------------------------ > svn(a)lists.roundcube.net, GitHub <noreply(a)github.com> ------------------------------------------------------ To have a "noreply" address in the Reply-To does not make any sense by definition. And any reply to svn(a)lists.roundcube.net will never make it to this R/O list anyway. So wouldn't it be better to set the Reply-To to the dev-list...? Identity selection appears to be completely broken (I assume due to the commit below). The default identity is being selected always, but even that doesn't work correctly: The signature is not being loaded into the editor. mail_host

Hey all, I know in the past there has been some discussion about the need for mail_host. In our specific setup mail_host is really a huge pita. For example, we allow customer service employees to impersonate a customer. This is done through a specific imap server that allows impersonation. But this doesn't work, because roundcube will create a new config entry in the database because the imap server changed. Even though from our point of view, the imap servers deal with the same user base. Wouldn't it be possible to have a config option $config['mail_host'] = false; if you set this to a specific mail_host, the mail_host column is always set to that config option. If thats a 'wont fix' from roundcube, is there a way this could be done through a plugin? Cor

Being on vacation, I finally find the time to play with the new identity_select plugin. Works pretty well so far, but I may have found a small glitch: For testing purposes, I have created the following identities: -------------------- > identity01(a)test.de > identity02(a)test.de > identity03(a)test.de > bla(a)test.de > blubb(a)test.de -------------------- The config entry in config.inc.php is: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > $config['identity_select_headers'] = array('x-envelope-to', 'envelope-to', 'delivered-to'); ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then I create a reply to the message attached. The identity being chosen by RC is - much to my surprise - "bla(a)test.de". Although none of the headers does contain this identity at all. There are four headers containing the string "not_bla(a)test.de", of course, but this is anything but identical to "bla(a)test.de". Something is going wrong in terms of string comparison here. Any other tests did produce correct results so far (I'm not finished yet with testing, though). Cursor-up in Editor occasionally not working

I'm currently working on a Win7/32 Home Premium machine with IE9 and RC 1.0-git. First I thought the Cursor-up key of the keyboard is defective, but then I realized that it's working fine anywhere else - except in the message editor of Roundcube while composing a message. It moves the cursor either just one line up or even no line up. It also depends if you are in a text block preceded with a quote char ">", or in an empty line, or in a "normal" (not quoted) text block. Has anybody else encountered such a behaviour already? Afterwards I realized that upon composing the next message, the key is working fine again in the message editor of Roundcube. So this behaviour is not consistent, and unfortunately I wasn't able to find a replicable scenario yet. :( But I have encountered it more than once already, so there must be one. What's wrong with this message?

The body of the (probably spam) message attached can't be displayed in RC 0.9.4 and 1.0-git (Win7/64 and IE8). Roundcube keeps displaying "Loading..." forever at the top of the screen. It's even tricky to download it as an .eml, and I can't recall how I (accidentally) managed it after several unsuccessful attempts. Usually all menu commands such as "Download (.eml)" or "Show source" do not react anymore at all, also "Toggle raw message headers" doesn't work. All that is being displayed in the preview pane, are the standard headers. The only string that I changed with a hex editor in the attached message, are the several occurrences of the address of the original recipient. Replicable...? Pulgin: Sub menues how-to?

Hello I'm writing a plugin to be able to configure some custom quirks of our email solution. I would need to do sub-menues, similar to the 'Preferences' where you have submenues for 'User Interface','mailbox view', etc. Just writing a simple plugin based on the 'spamassassin' plugin, was not too hard. But how do I create sub-menues within a plugin? I couldn't find any template or documentation. Also no other plugins seem to use sub-menues (Well, the sieve filter plugin does for filter-sets etc. but that is done in a way I don't understand). Is there a plug-in that does sub-menues in an easy way I could use as a template? Could someone help me with a simple template? larry notifications

Hey all, I'm probably just unable to find it, but is there a way to get more visible notifications in larry from plugins? If I send an error notification, I get a nice large error box that animates away, but if I send a notice, i only get a green font message in the status bar of the iframe. This is barely visible on larger screens because it's relatively far away from the action that creates the notice. Can I get an animated/faded notice box saying something succeeded ok? Regards, Cor

preferences tab/section

Hey all, I'm wondering if there are some docs that explain how to create a new tab for preferences, where if you click on the tab, you get a listbox where multiple plugins could register for a row. Basically imitating how the settings-tab works. Ideally the plugins would not have to worry about the tab, but could just register their own section on that tab. Am I going to have to reverse engineer how the settings-tab does this, and code this all myself, or is there some existing structure I could use? Regards, Cor

Documentation efforts

Hello folks One item on the 1.0 roadmap is to improve documentation for Roundcube. I recently started some efforts to achieve this. Now I'd like to ask you for proof-reading, review and contribution. First, I tried to clean the wiki pages that describe Roundcube's installation, configruation and upgrading. Please review the pages from the Trac wiki [1] listed under "Getting Started". As you can see, there are still some "TBD." present. Also, the FAQ page is totally outdated and should be re-written completely. Everybody is welcome to make corrections and additions directly on the wiki. Second, I started to write some end-user documentation AKA online help. The pages are written in reST and generated with Sphinx which I found to be very handy for this task. I therefore created a new git repository [2] where all the sources are maintained and tried to summarize it in the README file and on our wiki [3]. The help docs are structured in a way to allow additional contents from plugins to be integrated. The idea behind all this is to provide a framework what will let you generate your individual online help files that describe all the components you chose for your Roundcube installation, even with screenshots from your custom skins. The generated files can then be linked into the help plugin with context-sensitive deep-links [4]. A first release of the online help for version 0.9 can be found here: http://roundcube.net/doc/help/0.9/en_US/ Again, I'd like to invite you all to read through these documents and make corrections or additions by sending pull requests to the roundcube/roundcubemail-helpdocs github repository. I'd be happy to accommodate to special customs, of course, although I do think that sticking to PSR - flawed as it may be in spots - really helps enable collaboration by convention. Session Class Questions

I'm exploring the rcmail_session class to hunt down some intermittent issues with untimely session expiration, and to develop a better remember_me extension (or attempt to get it into core...). Quotas not updating

Sorry if this isn't the place to ask this.. I'm having one little issue and I'm hoping it's just something I'm doing wrong. Running postfix/dovecot/vimbadmin. Quotas work just fine. They display fine. Except when I went to change some users storage space this is not reflected in roundcube. Space was changed in vimbadmin, its reflected in the mysql table so all is well there. When I hover over the bar in roundcube it shows the previous amount. Is this a cache thing or does it pull that amount every time I log in. Thank you. Update 0.9.4 release

Dear Roundcube lovers! It wouldn't be Roundcube if there wasn't a minor glitch in our stable releases every now and then :-) It so happened again in the recent 0.9.3 release where the new include_path check triggered some regex warnings on Windows systems. We apologize for this inconvenience! But we're trying hard to keep up and here's a new release which fixes that nasty bug together with some other reported issues that we considered worth being ported to the 0.9 release series. It's considered stable (really!) and we recommend to update all productive installations of Roundcube with this version. Larry: improved attachment preview page?

While I work on a new plugin for files management. I found that we could improve our current attachment preview page. I'm attaching a screenshot from my plugin. I'd like to make attachment preview page to look the same, i.e. attachment properties on the left and toolbar with buttons (Download for now, but we could add other e.g. Print, Save, Edit). What do you think? An opposite layout would be to make it more looking as message preview page with properties on top and small buttons in right-top corner (and no toolbar).
