We just published security updates to the 1.6 and 1.5 LTS versions of Roundcube Webmail. They both contain a fix for recently reported security vulnerability. Security fixes: - Fix Post-Auth RCE via PHP Object Deserialization reported by firs0v. Hi I am trying to develop a readonly addressbook plugin that provides a addressbook for each *.vcard file in a directory I am stuck on a couple of issues. My code is at https://pastebin.com/THFn7xi8 1, When I click a contact in the address book I only see Name and email even though get_record and get_result return a full contact with multiple fields field out. 2, In the To field on composing a mail with other address bool the groups show up so I can send to an entire group. Which my plugin groups does not show. I am not sure how the following need implementing public function get_record_groups($id) public function set_group($gid) public function create_group($name) public function delete_group($gid) public function rename_group($gid, $newname, &$newid) public function add_to_group($group_id, $ids) public function remove_from_group($group_id, $ids) 3, Finally when is #[Override] public function set_search_set($filter) ever called ? Are there up to date docs ? Thanks for any guidance.

Updates 1.5.9 and 1.6.9 released

These are immediate service releases to fix regressions introduced in the most recent security updates. Both releases contain two following fixes: - Fix regression where printing/scaling/rotating image attachments was broken (#9571) - Fix regression where HTML messages were displayed unstyled (#9586) These releases are considered stable and we recommend to update all productive installations of Roundcube with these. Credits for this finding to Valentin T. and Lutz Wolf of CrowdStrike. - Fix cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in handling list columns from user preferences. Credits for this finding to Huy Nguyễn Phạm Nhật. - Fix command injection via crafted im_convert_path/im_identify_path on Windows. Credits for this finding to Huy Nguyễn Phạm Nhật. Wrong Content-Type of *.eml attachments

With 1.4.x, *.eml files were correctly attached with Content-Type message/rfc822. With 1.6.0, they are apparently declared as text/plain or text/html. Update to RC 1.6.0 / Severe editor glitches

As we (in the meantime I have to say, unfortunately) *have* to update to RC 1.6.0 (due to PHP 8.x on our server), I found some severe glitches in the editor, which makes composing messages much more difficult and in some cases even nearly impossible for us: 1) No Cancel button anymore (Elastic only, in Classic it's there) - hmm?!?! 2) No option to change the editor type (Text/HTML) anymore (Elastic only, in Classic it's there) - hmm?!?! 3) When adding a table, each cell gets a certain width (one cell per row 99.4886%, two cells per row 49.5467% etc., and the table itself 100%). In the old version of the editor, the width of each cell (and the table itself) was automatically adjusted to the length of the text it contained. This is a *major* problem, as the property of each cell in each row needs to be changed manually. 4) The button "Special character" does now list hundreds of additional useless characters, but the   character (which we need to use extremely often) is not available anymore. 5) Lot less colours for text and background (minor issue, but where's the improvement here?) 6) One has to click first on the "..." button to see the entire toolbar (minor issue, but again I miss to see the improvement). 7) Probably a bug: The HTML editor first started with an arbitrary default font "Lucida Gr...", although "Arial" was defined in the settings. This problem seems to be disappeared now after I did save the settings again. Especially items 3) and 4) are the most disturbing ones and make the editor unusable for us. I believe to remember that we did have this problem in 1.4.0 as well and therefore installed a previous version of the editor. But I'm not sure if this version will work with PHP 8.x? Anyone have experience in plugin coding for Roundcube? I am in the process of creating a light weight plugin for adding a stay-logged-in checkbox on the login page. It doesn't use/add any DB columns or create extra cookies. It only modifies the existing two cookies that roundcube already sets by extending their expiration from session-only to several days. The part i could use help with, is the template for adding the html checkbox is in javascript. I am not seeing how to get a value from config.inc.php into javascript. As of now i have to set the same value in both the php and javascript files. Or if there is a way to inject the HTML from the PHP instead of needing to use JS i would prefer that. Feature suggestion: unsubscribe button

A feature that exists in Gmail that I'd like to see in Roundcube is an "Unsubscribe" button. This button can be used to unsubscribe from mailing lists automatically. It simply uses the "List-Unsubscribe" header which contains a link (usually a mailto) that the recipient can visit (or send an email to) to unsubscribe from the list. The button would only show if this List-Unsubscribe header is present in the message being viewed. For an example, I've attached a screenshot of Gmail's unsubscribe button. It's to the right of the sender's email address. Problem with lists.roundcube.net archives

Hi, I just tried to download some archives from this list and found somehow erratical behaviour. Overview page http://lists.roundcube.net/pipermail/dev/ does not download fully, it displays monthly archives starting from July 2017 at the bottom (with neither link for 'Date' ordered message view nor link for gzipped archive file). Similarly, overview archive page for users list is not complete, and every monthly archive file is truncated to 17072 bytes if longer. I tried multiple times from different comps in more locations, so it is probably some server or server network connection problem. Could anybody verify this? Fix it? Regards, Milan

What's the recommended method for outputting to screen/logs while developing?

I want to contribute a plugin to the project but I have a lot of php rust to knock off, first. It would be helpful if I had an easy way to dump variables to the screen and/or log so I can easily see the code in action. I tried the debug_logger plugin but it seems badly out of date. An issue has been filed here: https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail/issues/8041. So I'm curious to know what tools other developers are using to help them develop with roundcube. Thanks.

Improvements to the Managesieve plugin

Hi Roundcube devs, We have been using Roundcube since many years and migrating from the unmaintained SieveRules plugin by JohnDoh to the official ManageSieve plugin. There are a few things that we want to improve, and we would like to know if it is okay to send these as patches so they can be included in a later official version of the Managesieve plugin. 1. Import of disabled rules generated by the SieveRules plugin ManageSieve uses the trick "if false ..." to disable sieve rules, but SieveRules stores disabled rules as a PHP serialized form of it's internal representation in a sieve comment. Now we have a working version for this that is able to import conditions and vacation (autoreply) rules 2. Add original subject to vacation replies SieveRules can add the original subject to the automatically sent reply, by using a trick of creating a ${subject} sieve variable in a separate rule that is hidden in SieveRules, but ManageSieve imports is an unnamed rule. The rule looks like this: set "subject" ""; if header :matches "subject" "*" { set "subject" "${1}"; } There is also a feature request for this: https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail/issues/5258 Our plan is to support this extra rule and also hide it from the UI and add a checkbox to Subject in the vacation part that would append ${subject}. The appended ${subject} would be also hidden from the UI only the checkbox would be used to indicate if the original subject is added to the reply or not. The extra rule would be inserted only if at least one vacation rule wants to append the original subject. We would also add extra configuration options to the plugin, so both features could be disabled by default, especially for the second one, as many considers this as a source of spamming (however big email providers, like GMail appends the old subject when sending an autoreply) So, I'm waiting for your comments, suggestions on the features or if the are applicable for inclusion in the official version Thanks in advance, Daniel

Add JMAP Support via PHP library

Hey Roundcube community! We at audriga are working on a JMAP PHP library which we plan on using in Roundcube. The main use-case we have in mind is to expose Roundcube's Contact and Calendar data over a JMAP API. What we are implementing should of course be extensible for Mail as well. We already managed to implement a PoC for Roundcube to read and write data over JMAP and want to contribute our changes upstream. Since will be our first time contributing to Roundcube, it would be great to get some initial feedback or guidance. Considering there were some thoughts put into JMAP support in the past (for Roundcube Next concepts): Do you have any advice on extending Roundcube with this feature? 'preferences' column initialization in user_create

Hi, I am fresh new on this list, and it seems that its archives are not available. So, excuse me if this topic has alreadey been discussed. I am working on an update of the squirrelmail_usercopy plugin, to permit the transfer of address groups and the equivalent of the roundcube's "message_highlight" plugin when creating à new user on roundcube with data taken from a current squirrelmail account. Many of our squirrelmail users use these features. If the addition of address groups has been done updating only the original plugin's code, I had to make some change in the "create" function in the program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_user.php file to permit the import of the message highlight preferences. This change is simply the addition of the field 'preferences' for the call of the "user_create" hook, and the storage of the returned value in the "preferences" column of the "users" table of the database. Upcoming changes in Roundcube's plugin repository

Roundcube’s plugin repository is built around Composer which is used to install plugins and their dependencies. For many years we’ve been running our own plugin repository from a fork [1] of the most popular packagist.org service. Over time source code repositories like Github, Gitlab or Bitbucket as well as the Packagist codebase changed significantly which made it hard for us to maintain our fork. We therefore decided to give it up in favor of the well maintained packagist.org service. The plan is to move all Roundcube plugins currently registered at plugins.roundcube.net to packagist.org. They’re already Composer packages of type roundcube-plugin and thus don’t need any changes in their code or structure. The plugins.roundcube.net service remains active as a Composer repository but will be changed to read-only mode. So what does this mean for you? * For Roundcube users For the consumer side using Composer to pull Roundcube plugins and updates to them, nothing changes. You don’t even need to change your composer.json file as all currently registered plugins will still be listed at plugins.roundcube.net while updates will be pulled from packagist.org which is the default repository for Composer anyway. * For plugin developers Unfortunately there’s no way for us to feed all Roundcube plugins registered in our repository to packagist.org. Therefore, as a plugin developer you’re required to sign up at packagist.org [2] and then register your plugin(s) there. It’s as simple as it was on plugins.roundcube.net and only takes you a minute or two. We strongly encourage you to do so even if you’re not currently pushing new releases to your plugin. * Roadmap We’d like to make the switch on May 17th 2020. On this day, the repository data of plugins.roundcube.net will be frozen and the current Packagist service will be replaced by a read-only clone that’ll keep on serving requests from Composer to install Roundcube plugins. After that day, all updates and new registrations for Roundcube plugins need to be submitted to packagist.org. Once a plugin is listed at packagist.org, Roundcube’s plugin repository will no longer list it in order to make packagist.org the only source. plugin install with SQL and database prefix

Hi dear roundcube community, First of all, I wish you all a happy new year. I am the maintainer of the automatic_addressbook plugin (or at least I used to be, as I don't have much time for it now, and I would be happy to have it integrated in roundcube default plugins if you want, but that's an other story) . I regularly get issues from users regarding database prefix when installing the plugin. I understand this is complicated to handle when installing manually, but it seems to also be the case when using composer (At least I got reports about failed SQL statements when installing with composer) As far as I can see, SQL statements in roundcube codebase have no prefix, as my sql statements in my plugin. How are database prefix handled when installing roundcube? How are they handled when installing a plugin with composer? (ok, I found how, see below) I have 2 concerns: - One is table creation (CREATE TABLE statements), on which prefix should added. Is that handled automatically by composer? (It seems to be the case) - The second one is foreign keys that reference roundcube standard tables like REFERENCES `users`(`user_id`) which should be changed to REFERENCES `PREFIX_users`(`user_id`). Is that automatically handled by composer at plugin installation? (It seems to be the missing one) Is there any documentation for plugin coders on how to properly handle plugins databases with references to standard roundcube databases regarding database prefix? As far as I can see here: https://github.com/roundcube/plugin-installer/blob/0.1.6/src/bin/rcubeinitd… This problem is already handled for CREATE DATABASE statements and for CREATE SEQUENCE statements but not for REFERENCES statements as used in the automatic_addressbook plugin here: - https://github.com/sblaisot/automatic_addressbook/blob/master/SQL/mysql.ini… - https://github.com/sblaisot/automatic_addressbook/blob/master/SQL/postgres.… I should be able to propose a PR on plugin_installer for that. Automated in-browser tests

TL;DR: We have Roundcube in-browser tests on Travis. I rewrote old Selenium-based tests created long time ago. These were not working and I guess no one payed attention to them. Now, it should be easier and better in many ways. New code uses Laravel's Dusk (and Facebook/WebDriver) with PHPUnit which is a nice and powerful framework for functional testing. This means: - setting up testing environment is very easy, - writing tests is simpler and we can do much more, - thanks to SQLite and GreenMail software you don't need a real IMAP/SMTP nor database server, you also don't need a HTTP server, - we test Elastic only, and we test all modes desktop/tablet/phone. - via Travis tests are executed on every commit and pull request. Which technicly means you don't even need PHP to write tests, just write code and do a pull request ;). Now, I would love to see pull requests coming that add some more in-browser tests. If you'd like to give it a go, I propose to start with Preferences UI tests. There's Settings/Preferences/General.php file you can use as a base for testing other Preferences sections. With the recent release we missed to mention a few breaking changes since the last stable version 1.3. We apologize for this and are now clarifying and correcting these: Breaking changes ---------------- (since 1.3.x) * new defaults for smtp_* config options: Upon many requests and in order to get closer to the default setup of most SMTP servers, we changed the defaults as follows: // SMTP port (default is 587) $config[‘smtp_port’] = 587; // SMTP username (if required). %u will use the current username for login $config[‘smtp_user’] = ‘%u’; // SMTP password (if required). %p will use the current user’s password for login $config[‘smtp_pass’] = ‘%p’; * changed default password_charset to UTF-8: Because of many complaints, we decided to choose a more sane default that covers most setups and configurations. * login page returning 401 Unauthorized status: The new behavior that Roundcube 1.4 returns a 401 status code if the client is not authenticated apparently was very unexpected and lead to monitoring problems. Despite not having mentioned that change in the release notes, we now partly reverted it so that 401 is only returned on login failures but not on the first request to Roundcube which by definition is unauthorized. Roundcube Webmail 1.4.0 - Elastic released

Dear subscribers It's a big honor for me to announce the final release of the long awaited major version 1.4 of Roundcube webmail. After more than two years of hard work by Alec and other volunteer contributors, Roundcube finally gets the responsive skin with full mobile device support - the Elastic. In addition to the new UI we introduce these new features: * Email Resent (Bounce) feature * Improved [Mailvelope](https://www.mailvelope.com) integration * Support for Redis and Memcached cache * Support for SMTPUTF8 and GSSAPI Plus numerous improvements and bug fixes collected from your precious feedback as well as updates to recent versions of 3rd party libraries like jQuery and TinyMCE. See the full changelog in the release notes on the Github download page [1]. The new Elastic theme, which is the new default skin, is built with LESS and of course the sources are included. They allow a certain degree of customization by adjusting some colors and variables using the `_styles.less` and `_variables.less` files. Please consider customizing your Roundcube installation in order to make phishing [2] harder. You'll find guidance in the README.md file inside the skin folder. This release is considered stable and we encourage you to update your productive installations after carefully testing the upgrade scenario and preparing your users to the significant changes in their webmail UI. Schema change practices in roundcube

Dear developers from roundcube, I'm a student at the University of Applied Sciences in Regensburg (Germany). Currently I'm working on my master's thesis, contributing to a research project in the field quantitative software engineering. By mining the software histories of popular open source projects, we want to get insight about current development practices and challenges. Our main focus here is to understand the co-evolution/change-coupling of software artifacts, especially in the case of database-related changes. Since there are hardly works or established tools considering the co-evolution of schema and the code accessing it, we are investigating this topic. As roundcube is one major project in the open-source-community and is also supporting several databases, I have some questions: We found out that schema related changes were often committed together - across all databases . So in your case, some schema-changes were done for mssql, mysql, oracle, postgres and sqlite simultaneously. 1) Could you describe the common process of introducing these schema changes or do you have a manual for that? 2) Is there any tool in use, which supports this process automatically or is it done manually? 3) How much time is consumed when introducing schema changes in your project? 4) Which problems occur when changing the schema? Hello All, Can some one give me some light on the preferences column and if i want to modify how should i do it. Dear: When trying to update from the last git to version 1.4 rc2, I get this message: ERROR: Target installation already in version 1.4-git. I don't know if it's the expected behavior and an update is impossible in that scenario. Maybe I should install from scratch? Or maybe I should report an incident? Roundcube Webmail 1.4 Release Candidate 2

Dear subscribers We just published the long awaited second release candidate for the next major version 1.4 of Roundcube webmail. Many fixes, improvements and final touches have gone into this since the first release candidate was published. Check the Changelog [1] for a complete list of changes. We waited for some promised contributions which unfortunately never arrived but we now feel confident to call the new Elastic skin complete and ready to be officially released. As we’re moving towards the final release, we strongly encourage everybody to customize the Elastic skin using the _styles.less and _variables.less files to blend into your corporate design. You’ll find guidance for customization in the README.md file inside the skin folder. Rolling out a new and significantly different user interface should be carefully planned and we recommend to prepare your users for the change. Therefore the Elastic theme is not set to be the default theme. Adjust your config in order to enable it by default or let your users switch themselves in the user settings. Please note that the Classic skin will no longer be maintained and completely removed in future releases. Within the 1.4 release series, the Classic skin remains part of the package but it will not receive new features that were added to the Larry or Elastic themes. This is still a preview release and we recommend to test it on a separate environment. And don’t forget to backup your data before installing it.
