When trying to log into a fresh roundcube 0.9rc installation I'm always getting an "Invalid request! No data was saved." error. How can I debug what is going on here? Release candidate for version 0.9

Hello all, We just published the feature-complete release candidate for the upcoming version 0.9. After adding some neat new features in 0.9-beta we now stabilized the code for the final release. Read http://trac.roundcube.net/wiki/Changelog for details. Download it from http://roundcube.net/download and update your testing systems. Use either the installto.sh or update.sh scripts to do the update as described in the UPGRADING instructions. These will take advantage of the new database schema upgrade mechanism we just added. That should make it easier and safer to keep the local database schema up-to-date with the new versions. And please report remaining bugs to our bug tracker. Best regards, Thomas

Big big problems with attachments and user session (missing attachments)

Hi, RQ 0.85 loses attachments and it is reproducible. If I insert a new attachment and then, quickly, I use the addressbook, RQ loses the attachments, also the single attachment. I read about a similar issue but it was talk about more attachments included contemporaneously but it also does with individual attachment. The problem is that when, after inserting an attachment, I work on RQ inserting quickly addressbook, it erased data COMPOSE_DATA in the user session. The same thing when I insert a addressbook and then quickly insert an attachment it is lost or when I insert and addressbook while RQ is uploading an attachment. In my address book there are many contacts like 20000 so the search needs few seconds. There are sync problems in the sessions update. I tried with mysql sessions or mem_cache sessions, it's indifferent. For the moment I have a workaround that instead of saving the attachment data COMPOSE_DATA in user session it saves them in the temp folder and use it to send attachments and it works. Hi, yes I've read that ticket but there is also the problem with individual attachments and working on the addressbook, or by simultaneous operations not necessarily on attachments. Why it would not work with multi-server env ? The file with the attachment data is saved in the temp folder with filename equal to the compose_id so it should always work. I doing something wrong ? If useful I can post my edits. But the underlying problem seems to me synchronize or SERIALIZE operations that are done on RQ and the data stored in the user session. This error is the most obvious but it may equally happen on other data like body, subject, etc.. Using the address book quick search JS from plugins

Hello, I am looking at adding address book 'quick search'/auto-complete functionality, amongst other enhancements, to the advanced_search plugin for the email relevant fields (To, From, etc). This will allow for quick and easy entry of email addresses that are in the address book. Looking at the functionality in the compose, simply adding this JS snippit to the input seems to work: <code> var ac_props; rcmail.init_address_input_events(row_input, ac_props); </code> The problem being that this wraps the email address with "<>", prepends the display name and appends ", " to the data. Trying to just use this and filtering the email our with a regex in the backend is problematic due to the "<email>" being removed via the XSS HTML tag filtering protection. Disabling this is also not desirable. What I would like is to have the same type of functionality but choosing only to place the email address in the field. I have done a little digging through the JS code but did not quickly find something that matched my requirements. Can someone point me in the right direction or do I need to try to trace what is happening all through app.js.src. I would like to reuse as much of the core code as possible. Ready for the big 1?

Hello folks We're in the final round of getting the 0.9 stable release ready and the question about the next major version arises. I know, our versioning has been very modest and therefore we're at 0.9 after more than 7 years of development. When starting Roundcube back in 2005, my vision about Roundcube version 1.0 was to be feature complete and ready for the average daily needs of email messaging. However, during the years we might have lost our objectivity for things like feature-completeness and that's why I'd like you to speak up for this. Do you think Roundcube deserves the version 1.0? My personal gut feeling says "yes, of course". Since version 0.7 we're seeing nearly 100K downloads from our mirrors and each installation of Roundcube serves up to several thousand users. While the total number of Roundcube users is still unclear, I nevertheless think that the broad use of our software is a clear indicator that it actually *is* ready for the average daily messaging. Together with this simple yes-no question, I'd also like to give you the opportunity to submit your personal "1.0 wish list". Feel free to post your top 3 must-have features you're currently missing in Roundcube. Rate limiting plugin

Good morning, I'm a Roundcube newbie who is currently working on some minor plugins to adapt Roundcube to our needs. One of our requirements is the ability to disable outgoing mail on accounts compromised by spammers after someone falls for a phishing spam. The attached plugin is close to what I need, other than the fact that the user doesn't get any feedback to indicate that email has been disabled. Should I be using something other than rcmail::raise_error() to stop Roundcube in its tracks and generate an error page? Reply-To entered in identity being overwritten upon adding another address

It's a bit unfortunate that any Cc, Bcc and Reply-To addresses entered in an identity are still not shown in the compose window (so that you can never be 100% sure if the respective headers are filled correctly), but I just encountered an even more serious issue: Unlike to Cc and Bcc, where I can manually add any other addresses while the ones entered in the identity are being preserved, any address added to the Reply-To field is not really "additional": It does overwrite the ones defined in the identity. Of course, I realized that only AFTER I sent the message... I request to correct this (and furthermore, I request to display all addresses being defined in the identity). I'm fully aware that it may get somewhat complicated if you're switching identies in the compose window back and forth (to distinguish between manually added addresses and addresses being defined in the identity...). But anyway, to display all of them would instantly disclose any problems and the user would at least have the chance to correct them manually. Display of message flowed, although message not being declared as flowed

For a number of good reasons, I usually do not produce messages in "format=flowed". Roundcube (hopefully unintentional) seems to ignore my intention, as it does display EVERY message as it would be in "format=flowed" upon reading it. Specifically: Resizing the window also leads to a line-rewrapping, which is continously adapted to the current window size. This breaks the display of things such as tables, charts, ASCII-Art etc., and makes them pretty unreadable. But exactly these things are the reason why I want to avoid "format=flowed". This format may make some sense if a message contains nothing but "flowing" text (but even then I find those extremely long lines difficult to read), but you can't take it for granted that a message does not contain anything else but "flowing" text. May I request to limit this behaviour to messages which are explicitely declared as "format=flowed", but to avoid it for messages not being declared as such? Kolab calendar plugin: no notifications

Hate to bug the mailing list with this, but I spent several hours going through the code & Google, and I'm stumped. I'm running 0.8.4, I'm trying to get the Kolab calendar plugin working because it looks pretty slick. Latest version of that available for download seems to be v0.7.4, except for a v3.0.1. I can't tell which one (if either) is correct for 0.8.4, but 3.0.1 complained immediately about a missing rcube class, so I fell back to 0.7.4 which mostly works (after you copy the skins in from v3.0.1). The only problem it seems to be having is that no notifications are going out for events. I would assume that it needs to be tied in to some kind of cron job (or...?), but I don't see a reasonable-looking candidate for that, nor have I been able to sort out how the notifications system is supposed to work. I see events being added to the events table in MySQL, everything looks reasonable there, but I can't find anything responsible for handling them once they're in there. What am I missing? The docs are pretty thin. I'd be happy to help with either code / documentation if necessary. Great - thanks for that, Alec! There are a few issues, though: 1) In cases where more than just one mail address is assigned to an address book entry, Larry is displaying the addresses right next to the real name in italics. Can we have the same in Classic as well? Or, alternatively, display them in angle brackets? Or even both (which would be the best option IMO, also for Larry)? 2) Clicking on the down arrow of the spell check button leads to a "hidden" list of available languages (hidden behind the search field). See screenshot attached. Wouldn't it be better to move all those buttons to the right anyway (so that they are aligned with the text composing field)? 3) As we now need more horizontal space on the screen than before, I'm still struggling to convince IE8 to open a wider window when I'm replying in a new window (which is my preferred option). Any idea how I can do that, or might Roundcube be able to set the window size? Anyway, you fulfilled one of my most important wishes, so thanks again. Attaching text files and charset declaration

To make sure that a text file attached to a message will be displayed correctly at the recipient's end, it requires a correct charset declaration. Currently I don't see any chance to declare a specific charset when attaching an arbitrary text file with Roundcube. AFAIK and AFAIR, mutt for instance can do that (as being stated in a Usenet newsgroup longer ago, I did never use mutt myself). Of course, neither Roundcube nor any other MUA can guess the correct charset. The user attaching the file needs to know (and declare) it. Any hope that this will be possible in the nearer future? redirection loop when cookies are disabled

Hi, I've juste noticed with RC 0.9b and RC 0.8.4 that when cookies are disabled on browser side (tested with FF and chrome), I get a redirection loop (302 redirect) on /?_task=mail This is not very user-friendly, it would be better to show a nice error page. Can somebody confirm what I've noted before I fill in a bug report or is it only related to my installation ? regards, S. Blaisot

Replies to HTML messages

I have set "Compose HTML messages" to "Never", because that is what I want. I'm a bit confused with regards to plain text replies to messages with a text/html and a text/plain part. Roundcube often (but not always) seems to quote the text/html part rather than the text/plain part. This often leads to really ugly replies/quotes with tons of useless/duplicated links at the end of the message (while the links within the message are sometimes being removed). See message attached. Is this intentional...? (Well, hopefully not) If replying to a HTML only message, Roundcube has of course no other choice than replying to the HTMl part. But in this case I'm still wondering why all links contained in the message are being duplicated at the end of the message with "[1]", "[2]" and so on, and sometimes even being removed within the message text (as can be seen with the attached message). It's a bit of an annoyance to remove these links at the end of the message and the "[1]", "[2]" etc. within the message text. Furthermore, the option "Compose HTML messages" has apparently four options now, the last one ("on forward or reply to HTML message") not being localized (yet?) Or is it a duplicate to "on reply to HTML message only"?. Last but not least, in very few and exceptional cases I'd indeed like to compose a HTML message when replying to a HTML message. Currently I see no other way than to change the option "Compose HTML messages", create the reply, and then reset "Compose HTML messages" back to "Never" (which I then sometimes forget, of course, and which is not too comfortable). Of course I can change the editor type AFTER clicking the reply button, but then all HTML tags of the quoted message are still lost. I currently have no good idea for a UI for this, but a function to reload the HTML part into the message editor (or to load the HTML part upfront after the user has - in which way ever - clearly stated that he exceptionally wants to create a HTML message) would just be great. In schema_upgrades branch I implemented a new method of upgrading database schema. Since now we'll store sql upgrade commands in separate file for each upgrade point. You can see the structure in SQL directory. We also add a new table 'system' where we store current schema version. There we have columns 'name' and 'value'. Where value is schema version number and name is a string with suffix "-version". For Roundcube core schema the key will be "roundcube-version". For plugins I propose to use <plugin_name>-plugin-version. There's also a new script bin/updatedb.sh which is used automatically by update.sh script and installer. The updatedb.sh script can be used also by hand e.g. to run plugins' schema updates. Sample usage: updatedb.sh --dir=../plugins/someplugin/SQL --version=0.9-beta \ --label=someplugin-plugin Argument --version is optional when upgrading from 0.9-beta or later version. Directory specified in --dir must have the same structure as core SQL directory. Schema version number is in format YYYYMMDDXX.sql. Where XX is a number of change in the same day, starting from 00. It is used only for sorting to execute changes in proper order. We'll apply this change before 0.9-rc. Hi, RC helpfully displays attached emails inline under the primary message. This is handy when people forward you emails as attachments. IMO it is not so handy with spam reports from SpamAssassin. These reports contain a summary of the message so I do not need to look at the original unless I really want to. My idea is to add a plugin hook into the rcmail_message_body function to allow plugins to prevent a message part from being displayed. This is similar to the message_part_get hook which lets plugins control attachment view/download. Phil

With this milestone we introduce some important changes under the hood as well as some nice and long-awaited features: * First of all, the Roundcube Framework. The core classes providing the strong base of Roundcube's functionality have been extracted and decoupled into a Framework package. They can be used individually in other open source projects looking for solid functionality around IMAP, SMTP, MIME-handling and more. * Another major change is the new database abstraction. In order to add support for SQLite3 the PEAR:MDB2 dependency was dropped and Roundcube now uses the native PHP Data Objects (PDO). Hi When having Larry skin active, the lock icon is visible, but not on classic skin. Maybe you want to fix this. Difference between "Checking for new messages..." (manually) and "Refreshing..." (automatically)?

When I click on the button "Check for new messages", an AJAX response "Checking for new messages..." is being displayed. Under Settings/User Interface, I have set the option "Refresh (check for new messages, etc.)" to "every 1 minute(s)". When the latter function is initiated autmatically, the AJAX response reads "Refreshing...". Are both functions the same thing? Or does the latter one anything more (because of the "etc." in the description) than a manual click on the "Check for new messages" button? This is intentional and should not be re-changed again. How to fix incorrect CT-declaration "text/x-mail" for .eml attachments?

We're working and testing on this issue for days in the meantime, but to no avail. The issue is: Our system is returning "text/x-mail" (rather than "message/rfc822", how it would be expected) when we throw the PHP function 'finfo_open' against a valid e-mail file, which has been saved locally with Roundcube, starting with a line "Return-path:". Therefore and logically Roundcube is declaring ""text/x-mail" when attaching this .eml to an e-mail, which does prevent Roundcube from handling and rendering the attchment as an e-mail. But, ha...! You won't probably believe it, but while typing this and after days of research in the net and just looking at the .eml again, it occurs to me, that we can "solve" the problem by changing "Return-path:" to "Return-Path:" in the first line of the .eml source file. All of a sudden the .eml file is correctly detected as "message/rfc822". Arrgh!? That can't be true, really, so many lost days... Just because of this "-p" vs. "-P"?! The message that we were using for testing has apparently been composed with the Google webmailer (which does for whatever reason not set any of the several MUA headers being around, I can just assume this from other headers such as "X-Google-Sender-Auth:"). Anyway, there are still a number of questions open then: 1) Our system (Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 Squeeze) is using a compiled magic file "/usr/share/magic.mgc" with a file size of 1.830.800 Byte, which apparently supports "Return-Path:", but not "Return-path:". Is there any other magic.mgc around which does also support "Return-path:" and which is compatible with our system? This question arises because I tried to use a magic.mgc which is bundled with the Linux command 'file' 5.11 (while the original 'file' version of Squeeze is 5.04), but we get an error if we try to open it with 'finfo_open()'. Apparently this magic.mgc does also not support "Return-path:" (because it doesn't contain that string), but this experience shows that you can't use any arbitrary magic.mgc found somewhere. 2) I can find a plain (non-compiled) text file "/usr/share/mime/magic" on our system which does apparently support both "Return-Path:" and "Return-path:", but we're getting an error when trying to load it with 'finfo_open'. This is surprising in so far as we can load another plain (also non-compiled) plain text file "/etc/apache2/magic" without a problem (but which does unfortunately also not support "Return-path:", so it doesn't really help as well, unless being edited). Any idea why 'finfo_open' can load some plain text (non-compiled) magic files, but others not...? 3) The biggest of all mysteries: Where do the declaration "text/x-mail" and the description "ASCII mail text" in the case of "Return-path:" come from at all? These strings are not contained in any of the several (compiled or non-compiled) magic files. Any useful hints most appreciated! Ah, and please: Don't advise to add ".eml" to Roundcube's mimetypes.php. We're aware of that, but according to Thomas advice, this is not the right way to go. Mobile skin questions - mobile version of Larry?

Hi! My problem: I want my users to use a solid skin (by default) on their desktop but also want to serve them a proper mobile skin. First off, i don't know how the browser/roundcube selects the correct mobile skin for mobile devices. Is this pure CSS magic or is it selected somewhere in the skin's code? Second, I'm thinking that Larry is a solid skin and is also well supported by the developers and the community. So, does anyone provide a mobile version for the Larry skin? I've looked into various (commercial) skins but none provides the look and feel I'm looking for I would be willing to pay the normal fee that others are charging - around 50 USD. If that is not possible, I would also be willing to hack my installation (either make a custom skin on top of Larry or do some dirty stuff in the template-selection-routines) to serve another mobile skin when the user is visiting with a mobile device. Finally! Thanks, Alec. But let me take the opportunity to point to an issue which I believe to encounter: In the past, I did a body search by entering "body:<search string>" in the search field. Sometimes, approx. ten seconds after starting the search, the spinning wheel of the Ajax message "Searching..." at the top is stopping, and a few seconds later the message disappears completely. So I'm often not sure if the search is still active, or has been interrupted due to some reason, or if no match has been found. In most of these cases no feedback message is given at all, and the message list stays empty. But in very rare cases I also get a feedback message "Search found no matches", and the message list gets reloaded. The behaviour is not consistent. The above SEEMS to happen more likely in folders with many messages (> 10,000?). After getting a few complaints about launchpad and after having my own issues with the translation system of launchpad, I'm now trying out the capabilities of the Transifex platform. For some unknown reason Transifex didn't appear on my radar when we decided to move from our home-grown translation system some existing online translation service. But compared to launchpad, Transifex really is shiny star with great features: first of all, it natively supports our PHP-style localization files. So no conversion to and from the gettext format is necessary. Then the commandline tools come in very handy and make it easy to sync translations with our git repository. Although I had tackled together a script to import translations from launchpad, there was always something failing which made it impossible to run it automatically in a cron job. The Transifex platform seems to be very solid and well-developed whereas launchpad has some serious issues with updating counts and other meta information. Not to speak of the endless (nonsense) conflicts the system detected which I had to resolve manually by clicking hundreds of buttons... Long story short: I'd like to make Transifex our new and official translation system and shut-down the account on launchpad. I know, this isn't very nice for all of our translators who we made registering accounts on launchpad not so long ago and who now have to register at yet another platform just to follow us. I admit, launchpad was a mistake and I'd like to correct this mistake rather soon. So unless there are serious concerns about the move to Transifex, this shall be our new translation system starting in 2013. As a first step, I registered a project at https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/roundcube-webmail. For quality reasons it is set to limited access which means that translators have to apply to become part of a translation team before they can actually start translating. So if you're interested in becoming a member for a certain language team, choose the language from the list and then click on "Join team" on the upper right part of the overview page. Thanks to all the people who contributed to Roundcube either as developers, translators, testers or in any other way. It's fun to move the project forward and I hope you'll all stick with us in 2013. hi it is not acceptable that your mailserver ignores "Precedence: list" header and spams mailing lists multiple times with the same autoresponds a sane auto-responder * never responds to bulk/list messages * never responds multiple times to the same sender in a short time frame
