Updates 0.8.1 and 0.7.3 released

Aloha! As usual when a new stable release arrives, there are a few things that didn't make it into that. Therefore we just published an update release adding bug fixes, some minor feature improvements and, most important, two fixes for a recently reported XSS vulnerability in Roundcube's HTML message handling. At the same same time, we also pushed out a small update for the 0.7 series with some of the important fixes back-ported. That's for all of you who didn't dare to switch to the new and shiny 0.8 release series. Task classes

Hi! I'm not an OOP fan-boy. However, sometimes we need to share some code between tasks. It will be possible if we rewrite at least func.inc files into classes. Other task-action files could be also classes inheriting from the task class. Execution code could be placed in <task_class>::run() method which would be extended by child (action) classes. Problemas com Caixa Muito Cheia

Bom dia, sou novo na lista, e estou a procura de auxílio para um problema. Tenho um servidor de emails configurado com Qmail e utilizo o Roundcube como interface web. Acontece q eu tenho uma conta de emails que estava com mais de 60 mil emails e quando carregava a caixa, elas não eram completamente carregadas, sem falar na demora. Para tentar contornar o problema, criei uma pasta direto na Maildir do Linux, dando as permissões e propriedades corretas para a pasta, e movi todas as mensagens com data de 2011 para essa pasta! Meu problema está que ao acessar a pasta, nenhuma mensagem é mostrada, e a caixa de entrada não exibe mais nenhuma mensagem, porém no rodapé da página eu tenho a informação de que existem atualmente 31566 mensagens na caixa de entrada e a pasta que criei diz simplesmente que não existem mensagens lá! Alguem já teve algum problema parecido??? Aguardo At, Cleiton Cipriani

I have a question about hooks in rc 0.8. We have a plugin depending on mailboxes_list hook which is now named storage_folders. Plugins modifies the list of avalible folders, so users cannot subscribe to some. When function returns an array of folders, RC does't accept that array and lists either all of the folders or just the inbox folder. The returned array is exactly the same as in version 0.7.2 but RC0.8 refuses to use it. Any suggestions?

0.8.0 doesn't select next message after deletion anymore

neither larry nor classic skins. neither in preview pane, nor when having double clicked a message. (here it used to show next message, now it seems to go back to message list view, with none selected.) firefox 14 (linux) and safari 5 (mac) this makes deleting a bunch of messages very cumbersome, but i feel like i'm going crazy because i don't think it was acting this way yesterday -- certainly the rc was behaving better. anybody else notice this? 0.8 Larry trouble

Hey guys, I suck, I didn't participate in the beta -- bad timing, too much going on at the time. Just updated to 0.8, and Larry's not looking so good here: http://imgur.com/hKwS7 The font is way oversized in the message list area and in the headers display area; the message headers seem to be showing up in triplicate for some reason; auto-completion isn't working in the to: field when composing a message; the "cancel" button is grayed out (and not clickable) when composing a message. There might be more, but that was what I found after a few minutes. Everything works OK for the classic skin. Since this isn't looking anything like the screenshot on the roundcube.net home page, I'm betting there's something broken on my server. Not sure what though ... I'm not seeing any 404s or other errors in the network console, nothing in the application or httpd error logs, and no Javascript console error messages. The layout looks identical to the screenshot above in Linux/Chromium 18, Linux/Firefox 9, and Windows XP/Firefox 14, so far. Any hints on what might be wrong? too late to offer feedback on larry?

I hear 0.8 is almost ready to be released. Exciting (and anxiety producing ;) I really love the new artwork/icons, but below is a list of things I'd love to see improved with the skin before feeling comfortable rolling it out to our users. (I'm testing code grabbed daily using git clone https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail.git Is this the best way to test the latest changes?) 0) I have a 1024x768 display, and if I reset the zoom level (ctrl+0) in the browser, then the mailbox view (with or without preview pane) does not fit on the screen. A horizontal scroll bar appears, but who want's to have to scroll right just to see the "Settings" and "Logout" buttons, half of "Address Book" button, columns right of Date etc.? It takes two zoom out's (ctrl+-) to get to a point where the horizontal scroll bar goes away, but at that point the text is uncomfortably small. At 1280 this is not a problem. 1) In "Settings" at this 1024 resolution, a lot of the various sections create a horizontal scroll bar in the third (far right) pane. I think they layout of 3 columns is nifty, but also a lot of screen real estate gets wasted and all the content feels cramped to the right. Especially true with more complicated areas like the managesieve plugin's filter form. I actually prefer the old "tabs" for the first level of hierarchy in settings, then a two column view with plenty of room to work with the actual content in a wider right column. 2) I really like that Larry shows who you're logged in as, but that top bar with just "about" on the left and these items on the right also seems to consume a bit more real estate than it actually needs. 3) The next bar down is even thicker, and seems to create a big void of unusable space top center, pushing everything down. 4) With the status messages moved to the bottom of the screen means there is yet another blank bar down there most of the time, instead of sometimes using the empty real estate top center as the old skin did. 5) I actually prefer the way the old skin had a soft fading dividing line between the "Mail, Address Book, Settings, Logout" buttons, instead of being hard all the way across. And the gradient of this new "Mail, Address Book, Settings" button bar seems messy between the gorgeous light and dark grey linen textures (especially the way the active button has it's gradient reversed.) Couldn't they all just be the ligher grey linen texture? 6) The folder actions icon seems inordinately large. Also in Settings -> Folders and Identities, those similar icons (new identity, add a folder, folder actions) seem big to me. And in addressbook. 7) In composing messages, the body box seems cramped, and almost a little hard to know it's there, or where it is. (Old skin had nice thin black lines and clean white. Now I find myself squinting to make out subtly greyer areas around the various rectangles.) Is it possible to not have the attachments column to the right, unless the user has actually clicked the button above to "Attach" a file? (it also adds a redundant redundant "Attach a file" button.) 8) The new feature of having the addressbook contacts appear to the left seems nifty. Is it possible to expand them by default? Without clicking "Personal addreses", folks might not know how useful this can be ;) 9) The various blues and greys and just aren't doing it for me. It feels branded but not in our company's colors. Any hope for configurability, or something a little more neutral (whiter?) (Or perhaps we can just tweak the CSS to use different colors?) 10) "threads" vs "list" buttons are not super obvious to me which is active, and when clicked they seem to leave a dotted blue box around them going all the way to the left edge of the screen, until I click elsewhere? 11) when viewing a message not just in the preview pane (but by double clicking it) the "Back" button creates a strange vertical line to the left of it in the linen texture -- much like the "Reply All" and "Forward" buttons have to their right, but that's because they have drop down list options. This is a super duper minor critique. I feel terrible laying all this on what has been a tremendous effort! I just wanted to share my honest opinion / impression. Benjamin ben(a)electricembers.net

I've found an small bug in the latest branch, when a message are forwarded, the header fields showed inside the message body are replaced with html entities: From: Test <email(a)email.com> To: Test <email(a)email.com> Becomes: From: Test <email(a)email.com> To: Test <email(a)email.com> I think this bug was introduced in the latest tinyMCE update, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time yet to confirm and fix it. Remove user.alias column

That column is used only for log in. The current behaviour allows only one alias. Also not every installation is using it at all. What I propose is to:[[BR]] 1. remove this column. 2. add an option which will search for the username in identities table. SELECT u.* FROM users.u JOIN identities i ON (i.user_id = u.user_id) WHERE email = ? LIMIT 1 So, this way searching for alias would be optional (which will improve performance, when not needed, e.g. there's a plugin which do alias mapping) and will give more possibilities. UI inconsistency

hey all, I just noticed this small inconsistency. In settings->identities there is a trashcan to delete an identity, but settings->folders has a gear as a submenu. I think it would be more consistent if settings->folders had a trashcan at that icon area as well. Cor

Ready for the switch?

Hello plugin developers et al! As previously announced and finally confirmed by the recent poll, the new Larry skin shall become the new default UI for Roundcube with the upcoming stable release 0.8. The most direct way to do that is to rename the skin folder from "larry" to default and make the current default to "legacy". The big drawback though is that all the plugins providing skin templates are also forced to do so. If we leave the old skin as "default", hardly anybody will benefit from the new skin unless the local config file is altered. As an alternative to the rough way proposed above, we could rename the current default folder to "legacy" and keep Larry as "larry" and instead resolve the config value "default" to "larry" within the code. While I prefer the rough way, I'd still like to hear some opinions from the plugin developers. Those using rcube_plugin::local_skin_path() shouldn't have any troubles no matter which way we choose. All the others please speak up or change your code :-) Best, Thomas

translation policy

Heya, What is the current policy for incorporating translations from launchpad to current source of Roundcube? I am asking this, because I've noticed that some of the translations from launchpad (e.g: Slovenian password plugin translation) do not come into the sources of Roundcube and users should take care of that (http://trac.roundcube.net/wiki/Doc_Plugins#Internationalization). Managesieve plugin - setting variables, patch

Hello :-) I've been working on implementing OpenPGP.js in Roundcube for the past couple of days. It's still an unfinished project in development, but since there's such high demand for the result I ought I'd ask you guys for some early feedback. For those of you who don't know: OpenPGP.js is a fork of the previous GPG4Browsers. The intent is to port all OpenPGP functionality into JavaScript so that third party software isn't required for PGP activity. It uses HTML5 web storage and standard PKI keyrings (private keys excluded). So far the plugin, rc_openpgpjs, has a "temporary"(?) user interface for key management and selection. Its consciously using a pretty rough UI at the moment because the new design for Roundcube is just around the corner, but just not finished enough yet to start working on. Also the Enigma plugin interface looked in trouble in Larry. Speaking of Enigma: I'm sure someone will ask why I extend that instead. With all due respect to its authors and fans, Enigma has been stuck in development for 2 years, and PGP support has been planned for Roundcube for 6 years. I'm not sure whether Enigma is really relevant or not. Also I can not support a plugin that implements encryption as a server side solution. The main goal of encryption is to ensure that the data can not be accessed by unauthorized people. I believe that people hosting other people's mail should be treated as unauthorized, and giving private keys away to somebody else really fights against the entire purpose. And then arises the exact same problem that Hushmail users are experiencing: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2007/11/encrypted-e-mai/ Even though most Roundcube users probably host their own email I'm quite sure most people don't have problems with a client sided solution instead. That said, I'm not opposed to the Enigma plugin in any way. I was only too lazy to bother learning its structure and layout, which turned out to not be entirely supported by the Larry design. I wouldn't mind a merge later on. Anyhow! Check it out, and tell me what you think. I strongly welcome UI recommendations, patches or any other tip about how I should progress. It's still in early development, but most of the key management features are implemented and so is the decryption of emails. Configurable name_template?

Hi all! I found that $rcmail_config['address_template'] exists, and used when new address added to any contact. The current (hard coded) name template is: 'prefix firstname middlename surname suffix'. Some countries (like Hungary where I live) use different order, like: 'prefix surname firstname middlename suffix'. Does anyone plan to implement name_template variable? Thanks: Sandor Takacs

Larry: toolbar button groups

After last update in Larry we have groups of buttons in toolbar. The idea behind this change was "to place the toolbar buttons above their context area and make a visual separation between their rather different realms". I don't like it. This makes less space for additional buttons (from plugins). Hi, More larry ideas (optimizing the 99% used functions)-- Move the filter select box to the bottom, (infreq used anyway), put the search box in it's place, the search box is odd over the email folders anyway Move the Compose icon to the left on it's own (right of the new search box location) (add green accent-- this & delete (red) the only accents, leave the rest grey ) Lose the "select" selection box at the bottom (this now takes an awkward additional click) & use the original skin icons & single click, that is perfect already. Larry: error popup in login page

In my opinion this popup is very irritating. The message under the login box is noticeable enough and doesn't require any click to go further. Especially the session expired error. I propose to not show error popup on login screen at all. Hi, I think the delete icon should be red/redish or a small red accent. The send message on the compose screen should be moved to the left & made into a bigger square-- you have to dart your eyes across the screen & drag the mouse all the way over there. Thanks!

qmail/vmailmgr plugin for Roundcube ?

Hello, I just got an urgent request for a roundcube plugin which would allow vmailmgr-users (qmail-based virtual domain manager) to change their passwords and setup their autoresponder (via the vmailmgrd daemon). Would you have something like that, even if only internally ? It does not have to be free, a small budget would be available afaik. In fact, something very similar to http://www.davidc.net/miscellany/qmailadmin-plugin-roundcube would be perfect, but compatible with the vmailmgr system, not qmailadmin. cookie opt-in

Hi, An EU law requiring websites to obtain opt-in consent from website users before any non-essential cookies back be placed on their computer recently came into force in the UK. Roundcube uses cookies for things like remember the position of the splitters on the mail screen. This isn't essential to the operation of the site and so consent must be sort from the user before these cookies can be saved on their computer. I have created a very simple plugin which displays a banner to the user asking them if they wish to use cookies or not and if they choose not then it disables the JavaScript cookie methods. It also adds a new option in the general settings page to allow the user to change their cookie settings any time they want. This plugin blocks cookies created via JavaScript. The only JavaScript cookie not blocked by this plugin is the one created by googiespell since that uses slight different methods of the rest of RC. These are the only cookies in the RC core which appear to be non-essential. There is one session cookie created in the PHP as part of the security that is essential and so exempt from opt-in. This is only a first go at a cookie opt-in system for RC and I'm sure it's not perfect, any feedback welcome. I am wondering it might be better to simply give an "accept and close" option rather than the choice of accepting or blocking. Phil

Broken localizations - Japanese and Hungarian

Hello folks, The stable release with the new skin is getting closer! We just published the release candidate version 0.8 which fixes some more bugs and completes the work on the "Larry" skin. Publish your plugin's texts for translation

Dear plugin developers Here's a short update on how you can push your plugin's texts to your translation system on launchpad.net. We already have the texts from Roundcube's core as well as the plugins we maintain ourselves added there and you can now do the same in order to benefit from the power of collaborative translation. NNTP Back End

I've been in need of something as awesome and polished as roundcube but for interfacing with NNTP instead of IMAP/SMTP. Can anyone hazard a guess as to how hard would it be to replace the back end functions to make them talk NNTP and remove the functionality inappropriate to NNTP (e.g. if news groups are folders, creating/deleting folders isn't a feature that would be useful). Anyone got any thoughts on this? Or perhaps a link to something that already does this reasonably well? Gordan

Problems with latest GIT

Hi y'all, Short question before I file a bug (if needed at all). I use GIT 20120508.1450 and I cannot put people into my address book. It will throw an error at me. I think something is going wrong but I'm not sure where to look. The (parsed) line that is responsible for adding someone to the address book doesn't look quite right to me but is this a local problem (character encoding for example) or is it an actual problem in the code somewhere? Goodbye Subversion, hello github

Hello folks Upon several requests from our community we now moved the Roundcube Webmail source code repository from our privately hosted Subversion server to github. With this step we hope to make it easier for anybody to get the source and to contribute patches and improvements. So everybody who was fulling bleeding edge updates from svn.roundcube.net, please visit https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail and clone the repository. We're happy to get your pull requests. For bug reports and feature requests please still use or trac platform at http://trac.roundcube.net. Switching to github

Hello devs and list lurkers As a result of many requests and previous discussion we're about to migrate your privately hosted Subversion repository to github. The trac platform will remain for tickets, planning and documentation but with the move to github we hope to make it easier to contribute. I meanwhile have put together a script to handle the migration and the switch will take place on next Friday, May 4th 2012. Those having write permissions to our SVN are kindly requested to commit their stuff until 12:00h CET on that day. Afterwards we'll start the migration. The SVN repository will remain active for a while but you won't see any updates on it. You'll be informed once the github repository is ready and we'll also document it on our website and the trac wiki. Have a good one, Thomas

opera bug?

Could someone try to reproduce a bug ive been seeing with Opera. Im getting customer reports and i can reproduce it myself. Start a compose in Opera, and then copy some text from someplace. Now paste this into the compose editor in HTML Mode. If I do this a few times, and clear the editor a few times, eventually the whole editor locks up and I cant paste anymore. It seems to happen around the first draft save, but that could be a coincidence. I am running the very latest 0.7.2-svn Cor

Has it ever been considered to allow people to edit raw sieve script through the managesieve plugin? What I see is that most people can use the nice UI to express almost all rules they need, but sometimes a match cant be made using the UI. These people then switch away from roundcube as their sieve client because they have no choice, even though they for instance only need 1 rule out of many to be manually editted. Just as an example, it would be nice if people could use the variable extension to create matches. Something like: if header :matches "List-ID" "*<*@*" { fileinto "Lists/${2}"; stop; } Id be fine if people had to create such a rule manually, but then managesieve would have to allow adding manual rules. Translation and Update of RC Documentation in Trac

Hi I started the study the code of RC and i tried to use the documentation in Trac, about API, Plugins and Themes. My first ask is if there docs are updated. Can i use then to study and get results or are outdated? To understand and with the idea of to bring more volunteers to code (or trough plugins, or trough core contribs), i tried to create a new page called Doc_Plugins/pt-br, where it is the translation of Doc_Plugins (logicly), but i haven't permission to do this. Hello, I started to study RC code but im having some troubles to understand some functionalities. I'm currently working with Claudio Filho and we aim to improve the calendar plugin. For now I need some help in how to reuse the autocomplete function of the composeHeader object (like in the "to" field of the compose page) in order to retrieve contacts of the ldap in the calendar plugin context.
