Translation of main pages

Hi In the same way of Trac, i ask too about the main site. Do you have interesting in translate for other languages? I explain my interesting in this questions, to try give my viewpoint about this question. I really liked of RC's purpose because i searched by years a good and intuitive webmail. I used since squirrelmail, after aloha, and i found RC when you started this project. In there time, i was very busy with OpenOffice.org project, translating and promoting this product in my country. Today, i continue helping in Apache OpenOffice and Debian, where have this concern in involve new users, volunteers and promoting the product. Returning to point, the main page for this two projects, are scripts that build the pages, where the sources are txt files easily translatable, and using the httpd negociation to present the content in the native language of user that is browsing the pages, or english, if haven't in his language. I think that a good strategy for RC, including respect for potencial users and volunteers. What you think? If you have interesting, i can do a proof of concept and present. Best, Claudio

Vacation plugin help needed

Greetings, all. Since I expect that 0.8 will be released in a couple of months, I've been doing testing with both the beta and a current svn. Since my organization plans to cut directly to the new larry skin (not offer the default at all), one of my focus points has been on plugin compatibility with larry. And I've encountered a problem with the vacation plugin we use. There are currently two vacation plugins for RC. https://github.com/bhuisgen/rc-vacation/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/rcubevacation/ The first seems to be better supported, and appears to be "larry-ready" now. But our environment requires the vacation files to be written to the remote mail server via FTP, so we have been using the other plugin in production. The problem is that the second plugin is definitely not happy with larry, and will need some css/html re-write to work properly. I've left a comment on the support forum for rcubevacation, but there has been no response for over a month and I fear that the developer is no longer maintaining that plugin. So I need one of two things, neither of which I have time or skills to do myself. I either need someone to make rcubevacation display properly with larry, or I need an FTP driver for the rc-vacation plugin. I'm not certain which is the simpler task, I've mucked about a bit with both options with limited success. Wanted: sponsor for Trac server

Hello folks You're most likely all aware of the problems we have with our current Trac server running on a single sqlite database which is always locked. Together with the migration from SVN to github I'd also like to move Trac to a dedicated host running a mysql database. Before I register an Amazon EC2 instance for that I wanted to ask if somebody is willing to donate a virtual machine instance to the Roundcube project. To make it as simple as possible, all we need is a prepared VM from http://bitnami.org/stack/trac and SSH access to it. Anybody? Best, Thomas

tiny/marginal enigma plugin improvement

Retrieving plugin instance

Hi I'm currently updating an installation of Roundcube based on RC 0.5.4 (!) to use RC 0.7.2. One difference I have found is that the function rcube_plugin_api:get_plugin() no longer exists. According to our local SVN history, this function was added when we merged with RC 0.4.2. However, I can't find this anywhere in the repository at trac.roundcube.net, so I'm beginning to wonder whether it was actually a custom method added by one of my colleagues (who must have forgotten to document it). Please can you tell me whether this function (shown below) has ever existed in a previous release of Roundcube, and whether there is a better, supported way to retrieve an existing instance of a plugin (ie so plugins can talk to each other without creating duplicate instances)? If not, I'm happy to create a ticket and submit a patch. problem when configure roundcube

Hi list I don't know If it's the better place to send this, If no, apologies for the inconvenience I configured roundcube but for and accident I not activated the option to create folders when first time access the users. And now, I resolved this but more users not has the basic folders. I read that I can create it manually but in my case I need to do this automatically because there are more than 100 users affected. Exist any form to modify the code to check every time the user connects If exists the folders and If not, create it? Thanks

Contact-centric email

My experimental effort in extending Roundcube to provide a 'contact-centric' email experience is progressing ok, although I'm doing some fairly major engineering... The net of it is to arrive at the layout shown in the attached screenshot - the 'contact-centric' view is reached by clicking on a contact name anywhere it appears (otherwise Roundcube still behaves as usual, with folders of emails being displayed in the preview pane.) Contact names appear in the contacts list, in the mail list display 'From:' column, and in the From, To, CC fields of emails. Emails are opened by clicking on the 'Subject', as opposed to anywhere on the entire row. From the screenshot you can see I've got multiple 'lists' on the same page (I'm using an updated Larry style). I.e. contacts and mails, having taken the contacts list off the Larry compose page (thanks Thomas). But I'm dealing with clashes between the lists all the time - I've sorted out the basic 'select' events. Today's discovery is the 'pagenext' etc commands are conflicting between the lists (i.e. the pagenext button on the contact list and the mail list are triggering the same command). Has anyone dealt with this issue before and have a recommended approach? At the moment I'm hacking fixes in as I go along but need to choose between giving the contact list and mail list different commands, or modifiy the receiving code to take note of which gui object the commands came from... thanks... "undelete" on IMAP + folder ordering

Hi I'm using RC 0.8 beta with the Larry theme and I just noticed that I cannot undelete a message once it's marked for deletion. If I remember correctly one used to have this option. By pressing once on the 'Delete' icon you mark a message to be deleted and then you can Purge/Compact the folder. If you click a second time on 'Delete' while selecting an already deleted email, it unmarks it so it will NOT be deleted by compacting the folder. I think this also worked with the 'Del' key on the keyboard. Another thing: is there a way to reorder the folder list so that the special folders (Draft, Sent, Junk) to appear at the top after the Inbox? Right now they appear all the way at the bottom after all my folders. Thanks.

Funky problem -- user's inbox not updating its message list [0.7.1]

Hi, So I did something I apparently should not have: I had a user who wanted to change their email address, but keep all of their contacts and settings and so on and so forth, so I changed their username in the users table, nuked the contents of the various cache tables, and restarted memcached just for good measure. That user, and only that user, now has a problem with their message list not updating regularly. Their message count will update correctly, but new messages aren't showing up in the message list. I can't seem to force a refresh from the UI -- either by switching folders, or by composing a message and then returning to the inbox, or by clicking "Check for messages". If I move messages from some other folder into the inbox, that doesn't force an update, either. BUT, if I move a message from the inbox to some other folder, and then back again, that does seem to trigger a refresh. I've also re-nuked the cache tables and restarted memcached. I haven't rebooted the server yet, because I'm skeptical that it'll do any good. Also, this particular user has 1900+ messages in their inbox. But, I emptied their inbox and still had the same problem, and I've had users with far more messages in their inbox without this problem. User's pop3 access is working fine, so not likely a Dovecot issue. Any clues? Forum issue

Hi, well I know you changed the forum and I have tried it already for days, but with no success. Its about the login, obviously my account got transfered from phpbb to smf with username and email, but my password has obviously changed to something else. The forgot password doesn't work, I write my email in it and press continue, but I never get an email. Why do I know that the email is correct, because when i go to resend activation code, it tells me that this email/acc is already activated. So overall, is the forum actually able to send emails, is it working? Hello Devs, I can't log into trac. Therefore I post here. Most of the plugin localizations are incomplete. I have noticed that the plugin api always defaults to en_US if a language set is missing. This is basically ok because en_US is the "always complete" set. Nethertheless it should not default to en_US if, f.e., de_DE is present but de_CH is missing. In this case it should load de_DE instead of en_US. Same for pt_BR, if pt_PT is present. Hi I am reviewing each translation and also understanding the localization form of RC. Now, i already understand the exportgettext.sh and i am working over the plugins of MyRoundcube. Looking in my checkout from MyRC snv, i observed the same plugin there and in the RC's svn. So, i ask what is the criteria to insert this 3th part plugins into RC's svn or not. This question is important (IMHO) to understand for where we can send the patches. Can someone give me some clarification about this? Best, Claudio

I wanted to create a ticket in Trac, but Trac is mostly broken for me for the past few months. Always claims my password is wrong, I do a reset, which may work once, but often even that fails. Changing logout button text in plugin's php file

Hi, I am writing a plugin so that the logout button text changes to "Logout <username>". Currently the way I am doing it is by creating a html span element with content $_SESSION["username"] (using html::span) in .php and then later making this html span element child of logout button in the .js file. However, I would like to know whether it is possible to change the logout button text in the .php file itself? Regards, Rahul.

Roundcube 0.8-beta with new skin ready for testing

Hello folks With the just published version 0.8-beta we proudly release the all new user interface design of Roundcube, codename "Larry" out into the wild. It isn't enabled by default but you can easily enable and test the new look by setting $rcmail_config['skin'] = 'larry'; in your local config/main.inc.php file. Many thanks again to our volunteer designer at http://bueroflint.com for the great work! Some plugins may not yet provide templates and styles for the new skin, so expect certain things to appear broken. We hereby kindly invite all plugin developers to adapt their plugins to the new skin. The idea is to run the new skin under the name "larry" until all the plugins with UI components are ready and then rename it to "default" just before releasing 0.8-stable. The current default skin will then be renamed to "legacy" and shall remain in the package for at least one more major release. We'd also like to mention that Internet Explorer 6 is no longer supported from this version on. Roundcube itself still works with IE6 but the new skin doesn't and we'll officially drop IE6 support anytime soon. It has just been around for too long... Beside the new UI, this version also contains some bugfixes and improvements (see http://trac.roundcube.net/wiki/Changelog) as well as some code refactorings. These can potentially break some plugins if they use calls to renamed or refactored functions. Please watch your logs and in case you should notice any errors, please report them to the according plugin developers. We have serious complaints about roundcubeforum.net. Please read the message below. I know that Devs are not responsible for the forum in any way, but we all should care about the reputation of the Roundcube Project. ----------------- Dear Dev Team, It is with the hope that something is done in the future to correct what I'll be sharing here today. I do not pretend to criticize something that I'm not familiar with and I just want to share my honest opinion regarding the Forums hosted at roundcubeforums.net for Roundcube Project. In one word, the forum is deterring for the Roundcube Project. While many of you spend countless hours working hard and coding what I believe is the best ajax front-end webmail for the masses out there, there are people not concerned about it and in fact profiting at any cost from your work by hosting a site that it is constantly redirecting users to porn sites, advertisement and anything that could bring a profit to god knows who's pockets. Not only I have experienced this myself but I have also received comments from co-workers and friends who I have enticed them to give Roundcube a try. They have opted for not registering an account due to the great concern that these inconsistencies bring to their peace of mind. Specially, because they consider that open source projects tend to be very careful and strict with the distribution and support of their data. Some have actually asked me if there is the possibility that the Roundcube installation could be either infected or coded to behave similar to their end-users. I'm certainly sure that your work is done with the main propose of delivering a quality product and I can only imagine how much energy you have put into this project over the years. I have no words to thank you enough for your great job and dedication. Please, consider to either get things straight up with the host or the person in charge of your Forum or move it elsewhere to a place in which profits is not the main and sole propose of hosting such site. Since every suggestion in the open source community should be made with a possible solution, I'm open to offer free hosting myself. I have 120GB of space on a shared server with 250GB of monthly bandwidth that I'll put at your disposition. We can have up to 500 subdomains, 50 ftp accounts, 1200 e-mail accounts plus few other things. Alternatively, I can offer my own personal server to host it but I'm concerned about the performance of the board as I have never put any heavy load on my own server before. I can install, manage and run IPB boards myself. I can also make it simpler for others of you to be part of the board administration so you can change things around yourself as needed and I might not have plenty of time to fully dedicate myself to the 24/7 administration position of the board so having a Team working together is obviously the best option. In the mean time, for consideration, I will invite you to visit http://unlockforus.com/forums/ (not active community there at the moment) I'm just offering what I have and it doesn't have to be taken into account. http://roundcubeforum.net has been either compromised and there are exploits running in the site or there are things set up to profit at any cost, even if it jeopardizes the reputation of the project. Contact-centric email

In case anyone has any interest or useful comment, I'm working on a personal project to present an additional more 'contact-centric' view of email using Roundcube/Larry as a base. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H8yT_pEawmw/T1yDxEfpwvI/AAAAAAAAACM/iuV9pWESuO4/s… If the user keeps the 'folder view' in the left pane then the behaviour is the same as existing Roundcube, i.e. the list of emails appears in top pane and emails are previewed in the bottom pane. But clicking on a 'contact' gives the view in the screenshot above. It's a personal research experiment and partially implemented so far (the 'mail' view includes tabbed folders/contacts, and selecting a contact populates the 'preview' pane, but I haven't yet implemented the contact-centric view of the email list which I'm assuming should be possible using a pre-canned email search). Nearly all email effort seems to be folder/email/thread based, with 'contact' just an attribute of an email that could be sorted/searched the same as subject or date. 'Contact-centric' email would have 'contact' as a primary object as is an 'email' today, i.e. where you see a reference to one, you can click on it and go to the corresponding item. The contact-centric approach looks like it has some possibilities and if you've read this far and have any interest, particularly if you're aware of related work elsewhere, then my thoughts-so-far are discussed more fully in a blog: http://collabtools.blogspot.com/ Cheers Ian

Hi A newbie(?) question: is correct use ".inc" at final of files for php? I saw some pages and tried in my server this question. I found it inside a thread copied bellow. Including a .php file from a remote server causes problems as it's retrieved as a parsed file, so you only retrieve the HTML output, rather than the PHP code you really want. As .inc isn't normally assigned in the server configuration, this will normally return as a text/plain file, meaning that all the PHP code is available when included. I've never needed to use .inc files personally for remote retrieval, some seemed to use it in the earlier days for files include()d regardles of them being local or remote.. personally I prefer .php wherever I can to prevent accidental viewing of code. PHP 5.4.0 released

breaking the 'mail'/'addressbook' modality - summary

In summary, 'contacts list' incorporated on the 'mail' page worked ok with a slightly modified 0.8-SVN. The sample code in the 0.8-SVN with the contacts list on the 'compose' page was a great help. I was able to move the contacts list onto the 'mail' page by doing the following: * moving the new address/contacts list function declarations ('rcmail_adressbook_list' and 'rcmail_contacts_list') from 'program/steps/mail/compose.inc' to 'program/steps/mail/func.inc' (incidentally for various reasons I think it would be easier if mail/func.inc was actually mail/mail.inc, etc - it would reduce the challenge of making Roundcube less 'modal' a bit anyway) * moving the add_handlers for 'adressbooks' and 'addresslist' from compose.inc to func.inc * In 'program/js/apps.js', moving the contactslist/adressbookslist code UP from the "if (this.env.action == 'compose').." section into the main "switch (this.task) { case 'mail': .." section. The contactslist code can still be bracketed with an "if (this.gui_objects.contactslist).." condition so it is only executed when a contact list is present on the page (as opposed to using the "if action=compose" type condition which limits it to the compose page... So I've had some success with the contacts list on the left of the main mail page - BIG thanks to Thomas for the platform and the support. If you're interested (I assume not ) there's a screenshot on the first mail of the thread a couple of days ago on this topic of what a 'contact-centric' email client based on Roundcube could actually look like. Breaking the 'mail' / 'addressbook' divide in Roundcube

Any advice appreciated of how best to do this. I'm trying to re-model the current 'modal' behaviour of Roundcube between the 'mail' view and the 'addressbook' view, and have spent maybe a dozen hours working my way through the code trying to get things off the ground. I haven't programmed in PHP for a while but I do have a PhD in Computer Science, and I think I've put in a reasonable amount of groundwork including creating a new set of templates/styles and reading the plugin API documentation. My intention could be simply put as having a 'Contact List' appear in the left-pane of what is currently the 'mail' view, i.e. where the folder list currently sits. My preference would be NOT to have to write from scratch another addressbook sub-system, but somehow map the existing functionality across into a new layout. An edit of the 'mail' template should hopefully allow me to include the contacts on the left e.g. as this mockup screenshot: http://carrier.csi.cam.ac.uk/forsterlewis/computer_science/face_mail/webmai… FYI the real objective is to experiment with a more contact-centric view of emails, e.g. allowing a click on a contact to display the addressbook details plus emails from/to, as in this mockup: http://carrier.csi.cam.ac.uk/forsterlewis/computer_science/face_mail/webmai… My problem is fundamentally the 'task' aspect of Roundcube assumes all the folder/email stuff has querystring '_task=mail' and addressbook routines have hardcoded things like $RCMAIL->task=='addressbook'. All this breaks when I try and put the contacts list on the 'mail' page. A smaller issue is 'mail' and 'addressbook' functionality (e.g. 'list') seems to prevent that content co-existing on a page also. E.g. is it very difficult to get <roundcube:object name="addresslist" id="contacts-table"...> to be expanded correctly in the 'mail' template using much of the existing program/steps/addressbook/ code ? I'd rather not have to create a complete new 'addressbook' plugin just to allow "public $task = 'mail'", but maybe that's the only way. Should I effectively clone the program/steps/addressbook code into a plugin and take out the 'task=addressbook' sensitivity? The downside of that is I'm effectively forking the Roundcube base. [ADMIN] Mail server changes made

To the Round Cube community. Today I've made changes to the mail server, that will hopefully enable me to continue serving as your list host. I've changed the numeric IP address used for posts being sent from this mailing list. This change *may* cause some of you to see delays, as ISPs do not yet have any reputation recorded for this new IP address. Many ISPs delay mail in this circumstance until more of a reputation is earned. [Stop reading here, unless you want more background info.] This change is regrettable an important one, for me to continue hosting. Until today, mail for my users (many of which have been here for 10-15 years) was sharing the same physical server and IP address as hosting the mailing lists. Most of those years, this was not a problem. However, in the last year or two, there has been increasing tension with this setup. Why the tension? People who subscribed to the list, then later complain to their ISP that the mail is spam. Pure and simple. These people build a negative reputation for my server's IP address. This in turn causes the ISPs to block *all* mail from my IP address. This affects the CRPL list, the Woodworkers list (who's now moved off), the Round Cube lists, and all the personal users on my server (including my family). Many of us use the server for contact with our families, or (in my case) for professional reasons. For example, nobody on my server can mail AT&T owned domains. This includes worldnet, pacbell, prodigy, swbell, and other related businesses. This failure mode has caused several long time users and organizations both to leave my server. All of it is directly attribution to the mailing list hosting. This tension has been so bad that I asked your list *owners*, in December, to look for a new host to move to. This has been a terrible ask - both my act of doing so; as well as the effort it takes for your list owners to find a new home. This has been quite difficult for your list owners to actually act on. I've finally come up with a solution (and had the time to implement it), to avoid moving the mailing lists to a different physical server. New posts will come from a dedicated IP address just for mailing lists; all other mail will remain on the original IP. Until the ISPs of the world stop delaying mail from this new IP, I'll ask you for your patience. 1. Is there anything I can set/alter in the return value to change which <option> gets the "selected" attribute? 2. This seems really basic, but what all do I look at to figure out within the hook function to determine where it's being called? Checking rcmail::get_instance->task and rcmail::get_instance()->show narrows it down some, but those values aren't sufficient to distinguish between the left sidebar folder list (which I don't want to alter) and the "Move to..." select box (which I do want to alter).
