fixed message-list header

Hi folks, I've seen that the "folder" header in the folder list is fixed when we scroll down, but this is not the case with the messages list (Object, from, date, size ...). I'd have been glad to submit a patch, but after some tries, I never succeed in doing the way I wanted. I'm not really gifted when it comes about CSS, and I did not dare to modify the xhtml output, so that's just a suggestion. First, is anyone interested in this ? does anyone have an idea about how to do this ? :-) regards, -- Pierre

patches for private LDAP directory

Hello List, i have changed some parts of the current LDAP code in the nightly snapshot 20070108 to meet our needs. We have a company addressbook stored in LDAP for which we wanted to have access from RoundCube. The directory needs user credentials for access, so i added a bind_dn and bind_pass parameter to the code. I have also extended the search criterias with a "company" field. PHP scheduled jobs?

I am not terribly familiar with the lastest in PHP. One concept I am considering is a way to keep the state current on the server for the webmail user. Currently the PHP code is only run when there is a request, but it would be helpful to have something running on the server continually which can respond to events in real-time. Here is the idea. A user logs into the system and that updates a timestamp for their date of last activity. Each time the RC webmail client looks for new messages it would update this timestamp. The service running on the server would be away of active sessions and watch their related IMAP accounts for new activity. When a new message does arrive it can pull the summary data and place it into the MySQL database so that when the webmail client looks for an update it can just query the database and not MySQL. And when it does pull the updates from the server it will also just hit the database for the summary data and only use the IMAP server when pulling the full message. Has anyone seen PHP run on the server-side continually as a service? How would we go about implementing that? Also, what facilities would PHP have to monitor a directory of files for updates? Will it just have to poll the directories and files for the last update date? Two issues: sorting and preview pane

Second, I love the preview pane feature, but there are some minor issues I'd like corrected. First of all, it would be nice, if the preview pane wasn't filled if it doesn't need to, I mean, I don't wan't it to show a message if I: a) select a single message by ctrl+clicking it - I know it works when having at least one message selected already, but I'm talking about a single selection b) drag a message It matters to me mostly because of my extremely slow connection (yes, modems still exist) :) So here's a context patch, that accomplishes the above. Just discovered Roundcube. I am interested in contributing some of my time to Roundcube, if needed or even wanted. I am a php developer so I am looking to get my hands dirty helping out when I can, if I can. My experience comes from my own project of 2 years, www.vmailadmin.org, a front end for Postfix servers (amongst others). I don't have much experience with AJAX but PHP is my thing and I do know a little bit of javascript. My first order is... What is the progress of the plug-in system? A client of this nature seems pretty useless without a plug-in API. I am interested, I've looked at the code and it appears quite understandable. I think this is where I would like to contribute... the plugin API base code. I am motivated by the desire to (all possible wiht a plug-in API): 1. Integrate Maildrop filtering capabilities 2. Provide a front end for user SpamAssassin preferences 3. Have some sort of auto-login system 4. Have folder with sub-folder be colapsable (not sure if this already exists since I just installed last night) 5. probably lots more.... My name is Juan.

Hi, I love it, my suggestion would be for the address book, have an option where i can import contacts from a vcf file, etc. I like that you have the option to add the contact just by clicking the name, but i have so many. that would be my major suggestion. Test request for people not using mysql

I'm wondering if I can get people who aren't using mysql to run a little test for me. I need people to install MDB2 if you don't already have it installed. Then install MDB2_Schema 'pear install MDB2_Schema' should handle that. Once you have that installed, you should have /usr/share/php/docs/ MDB2_Schema/docs/examples/example.php installed now. Copy that to a web accessible dir and open up your browser and go to that page. You should see a page with a form to enter all your db info. Enter all the roundcube info, put in a filename that apache will be able to write (temp/schema.xml /tmp/schema.xml etc.), tell it to only dump the structure, leave all the options as defaults. Hit ok, and you should now have a schema.xml file output where you told it to. Just email me that file. Thanks in advance. --Brian Jackson

Plug-in API

Has there been any work done on a plugin API? It would be a great feature to be able to write a plugin and almost literally drop it in with out having to edit major files which will be overwritten in the next release. on the forums there was mention of a word-press like plugin system (I vote for the widgets =) which would be an excellent way of managing them. This would open the doors for a plugin community to fill those 'not so popular' needs that would be considered bloat in the main trunk, so users can select which bloat they want.

Query on 2 possible new features

Hi all. I've recently migrated our office webmail server from squirrelmail to roundcubemail. I'm largely very happy with things. There are 2 features, however, that we are sorely missing. 1) Forward as attachment. This is required by our spam filter ( dspam ). There are other ways of training, but none that users can get their heads around. It's also nice, however, to have the entire message, headers and all, encapsulated in a forwarded message. 2) Signatures ( html ). This is kinda a requirement of our office, and roundcubemail's lack of signature support has slipped under the radar for now ... Can someone please comment on whether either of these 2 features are being considered? I'm not sure about how to do 1), but if no-one is stepping up to the plate for 2) I might give it a go ... might ... I haven't really looked at the code in any depth yet and considered what would be needed. Thanks. RSS Reader

Hey Everyone, I was thinking that an rss reader could be integrated into RoundCube. Whether this would better be added as a plugin or integrated directly I'm not sure. And again whether to build our own or use an existing system. To my understanding there are four options: 1. Create a branch and integrate into RoundCube [my preference - see below] 2. Create as a plugin or as a separate or joint project 3. Grab an existing project and modify as either plugin or direct integration 4. Forget about it and use other systems for rss If we choose option 1, then I'd like to help manage the overall development of the rss system, as well as doing some coding. However my skills are probably not up to doing this on my own. It may be necessary to separate the development as it is a significant project, and have it's own dev list [it's just a little bigger than the address book rewrite]. I think that integration is better than a plugin though due to the size of the exercise. If option 2, then obviously we need to get this discussion off this list and move it elsewhere. I am willing to host a development forum/wiki/test server for this, and help manage it as a separate project. An RSS Reader may be too big to be just a plugin and so development as a joint project may possibly be a good idea. If option 3, then as for option 2, however my involvement may be limited to consultation. If option 4, well you get the idea :( I believe that RoundCube would be seen as a better solution [it already is ;)] with an RSS reader. It would allow you to have that remote access to your feeds along with your email (again see Thunderbird), saving time and making the whole experience a bit better. As a webmail project, my understanding is that RoundCube does not want or need to be the all encompassing solution. However I think that an RSS reader would be a welcome addition, and should not be seen going as or pushing the project down the groupware path. All comments or thoughts on this are welcome and encouraged. :) I figured it would be something like this: - Integrated into the email page [my preference] + Feed list where the folders currently sit (i.e. Thunderbird) + maybe as a separate pane underneath like the preview pane + ability to hide email folders and show feeds + option to have multiple feeds come into one folder + Actual feed showing in the email list section + sort by seen status + Web page displayed in preview pane or new window + able to select either: * full page * full page without images * summary * etc. + Feed list stored in database along with entries from each feed + save seen/unseen status + Folder list + "drag and drop" feed links to creatable folders for future reference etc. + Forward feed link via email + opens new email with set text & hyperlink + Digg/del.icio.us/etc. this link function + added extras services via config + Feed & folders searchable - OR have a separate page altogether based on the email page Thanks Sam Bailey (cyprix) Cyprix Enterprises www.cyprix.com.au Melbourne, Australia Planet Cyprix Blog blog.cyprix.com.au

Cyrus folders lost!

I am running the Cyrus IMAP server and last night it seems the mailboxes were corrupted. I have followed steps to restore them but now RC is not showing all of my folders even though Cyrus shows they are there. In the meantime I have directed all of my incoming mail to my GMail account. hi list, I've created this php script which i use to add identities to the user's account. On the server which I installed roundcube, Identities must be entered inorder to send emails. This script takes care of the issue. I added this line into the crontab to run each minute: * * * * * /usr/bin/php /var/www/html/roundmail/roundident.php >/dev/null 2>/dev/null Has been working fine. Question about message forwarding

Hi At first I want to thank you for this excellent work. I installed yesterday roundcube on our site and it's exactly what I always searched and now hopefully found. Everthing seems to work fine but I have found something that on my installation didn't work and I searched all forums and googled everything but nobody seems to have the same as I have. If I try to forward a message from the inbox it doesn't work. The strange thing is that if I write a new mail or reply a mail it works perfectly. It would be nice if you can give me a advice. January meeting?

All, (Thomas especially) What would be a good day (or night) to meet to have our first online meeting? This is what I would like to set as the agenda. *Component breakdown (UI, IMAP, PHP, Javascript) *Teams leads by component (volunteers wanted) *Ticket management (delegated from Thomas to each team lead and how to prioritize) *Training (how to get each developer/tester prepared to contribute to the project) My best time is over the weekend. I would like to hold this over Skype which will allow us to talk as well as IM each other. I can record my screen during this meeting and make it available for anyone who wants to view it later. Of course if you cannot make it for the meeting we can continue the discussion in the RC forums the week following the meeting. I understand we are all in different timezones, so it may make sense to try to assign teams based on location. Once the teams are in place there can be team meetings at a more appropriate team for their region. Before each meeting the team lead can post the agenda for the meeting along with the time. And after each meeting the team lead will post a summary of the discussion to keep everyone up to date. I will simply act as a facilitator. I am pretty well experienced with most of the technologies used in RC. Hi All, I have been using roundcube for a well now and actively promoting it, in that light i have decided to make humble contributions to the project where i can. I have built a rpm package as my projects involve automated installations most times via kickstart installing the package via the tar ball would require much more scripting so i built an rpm package. Well, yeah, a plugin architecture would be great, but there are a couple of problems, one would have to think about while implementing this. What should a plugin be able to do? How should a plugin be able to extend the default rc code? The CMS typo3 uses a kinda sensefull plugin architecture, maybe one should have a look on it - thinks like extending the codebase with hooks sound pretty usefull for me. Hello Everyone. I was originally going to implement this feature using pure php, but then decided to go with a pure javascript implementation, and glad I did. It's minimally invasive, since the code that does the work is isolated in a js file. I have included all you need to get a "Remember my login" check box on your login screen. If the INSTALL file is hard to follow, sorry, I have a horrible cold today! Just email me and I gladly help will help. I checked out the trunk today, from which this code was written for, but it will probably work on many older versions. There is some robustness and verbosity in the javascript, if you click save with no user name entered a error will be presented to the user. It requires no submit to save the cookie, the instant the check box is checked it will store a cookie, likewise once its unchecked the cookie is deleted. I tested it on Firefox 2.0 only, although it should work on all javascript enabled browsers. [RC-Dev] What is your platform?

In preparation for having a meeting I would like to know the platforms everyone is using. It seems that IRC may be the text messaging approach we use beyond voice calls over Skype. Whatever we use, I want to make sure everyone can get into the discussion if they want. So please reply to all for this email and tell us what your choice platform is for daily use. And include your preferences for web browser, IM and IRC clients. I have used Windows, Mac and Linux over the years and I know it has been difficult to find a good IRC client when using a different platform. Once we know the platforms and IRC clients people feel work best I will get some basic instructions on the wiki explaining how to get those programs and how to get into the RC channel. Also, for those SysAdmin types out there. Do any you have a good way to capture the IRC discussion and publish it afterward? We will want to archive these meetings and highlight the major points and decisions of the meetings. And while some may choose not to use Skype anyone who would like to take part in a voice discussion and save yourself from typing, I will be happy to have any join a conference call with me. Roundcube with PHP 5.2.0 and Zend Optimizer - blank screen

Hallo. My OS is Debian Sarge. I use the Sarge Backports Version of PHP 5.2.0. If the Zend Optimizer is enabled Roundcube just brings a balnk page. The error log got some seg faults. If i disable Zend it works. How do get Roundcube running with Zend optimizer enabled? -- Mit freundlichen Grüssen Andrè Bauer

stable svn branch?

I was checking out svn.roundcube.net and it looks like there isn't a branch that I can checkout/update that'll always give me the latest stable release. Am I missing something, or could a /branches/stable be created that was always the latest stable released version? Thanks, Jason

managing address book and pictures

Adress book ----------- webmail is nice, but with addressbook syncing, it's better. For thunderbird user, waiting for 2.0 releases before starting coding is a good idea, in this version, adressBook is a true sqlite db. For mac user, the adressBook api is easy to access with scripting (like pyobjc), and the iSync api seems to be usable. For that, roundcube should expose some distant API. Is there any choice for that, actually? JSON seems easy and simple. With a json distant API, it will be easy to update the distant adress book. Pictures -------- Mail.app can display picture in mail header, like avatar. It's easy to implement such features. - There's an old protocol, used by http://freshmeat.net/projects/mailpictures/ - Gravatar (http://www.gravatar.com/) is the easiest way to match picture and mail adress - With adressbook sync, you can upload your picture. I use it with a dirty hack, is it usefull enough to make it cleaner and submit a patch?

Hi everybody Those of you who keep track of the changesets may have notices that I created a branch to re-write the addressbook interface. I also made some code cleanup and moved some functions around. I'm sure that you gonna hate me for that but I think it's worth it :-) The changeset is quite big so here's an overview what changed: - Created a new class rcube_contacts that abstracts the acess to the local address book. Another class with the same interface is on the way to handle the LDAP access. - Moved template parsing functions to a new class rcmail_template which extends the rcube_html_page class. The global object $OUTPUT is now an instance of rcmail_template. - Replaced all $OUTPUT->add_script("$JS_OBJECT_NAME.set_env('foo', '$bar');"); with the more elegant $OUTPUT->set_env('foo', $bar); Now also conditional template objects can access the env vars. - Got rid of the global vars $JS_OBJECT_NAME and $CHARSET. Those have been replaced by constans because they actually are constant values. - Moved simple steps (html2text and quotaimg) out of the common request process and created simple scripts in /bin/. These do not nead any user authentication or session values. - Started to send POST requests from the client for actions that alter data. Changing application states with GET is against RFC and allows for CSRF vulnerabilities. e.g. if someone were to email an RC user with: <img src="?_task=addressbook&_action=delete&_cid=1&_from=&_remote=1"> Then a contact would be deleted. Please check out the new branch from https://svn.roundcube.net/branches/devel-addressbook and test it. Don't replace an existing (productive) installation with it. Hello, i found 2 "problems" on the template: first in main.inc.php i have this variables $rcmail_config['skin_path'] = ''; and $rcmail_config['product_name'] = ''; why didn't we use this at the templates?? for example in /templates/login.html the information is "Hardcoded" <img src="skins/default/images/roundcube_logo.png" id="rcmbtn104" width="165" height="55" border="0" alt="RoundCube Webmail" hspace="10" /> or in /includes/header.html <roundcube:button command="mail" image="/images/roundcube_logo.png" alt="RoundCube Webmail" width="165" height="55" /> i think id would be better when we could use the variables?!! HTML Email bugs in latest beta (stable)

Hey all, We just upgraded and we send html invoices out. The invoice template for these have not been adjusted but now looks like roundcube is not rendering the html properly anymore. Getting things right in the message like: __removed=red> and *__removed=https: Any ideas? *

Edit Identities During First Login (#1291605)

I posted this in the forums, and didn't get much of a response, so I thought I'd try my luck here. Some time ago, the ability for new users to be presented with the "Edit Identity" screen after their first login was requested. (Ticket #1291605, http://trac.roundcube.net/trac.cgi/ticket/1291605 ) Attached is a patch that should add this feature in. This was patched against SVN rev 459, but it may work on older revisions. I'm sure there is room for improvement. NB: This feature is controlled by an additional setting in config/main.inc.php : $rcmail_config['new_user_edit_identity'] = TRUE; I suppose you could display a "welcome" message on the edit identities screen if they are a new user also, but that would require additional localization / translation, among other changes. Jim P.S. RE: Developer Guidelines, should boolean variables be in all caps (TRUE/FALSE) or lower case (true/false)? It seems to goes back and forth a lot in the code, so I wasn't sure. But it's trivial the change you want to do. Plus, on top of that, the themes are strict HTML. So there should be no PHP code inside of it. If you look at every theme, it uses Roundcube's Theme Engine (brilliant I might add) to properly parse messages, folders, actions and such. No PHP code is to be contained in the themes. What you're suggesting is the complete opposite of abstraction. You want to put PHP code directly into the theme which. The whole point of the template parser is to get the PHP out of the theme so that non-PHP web designers can create a slick GUI for Roundcube. So that being said, I understand what you're saying, but it goes against the whole point of abstraction and the MVC. I still am totally against making the change(s) you suggest about this. ~Brett
