Hi everybody I just wanted to let you know, that I'll be traveling for the next five weeks and will be offline most of the time. Don't expect any mail responses, comments, decisions or releases in that time. Of course, this does not mean, that nobody else is allowed work on the project. :-) Also, I just committed (rev. 354) some major changes in the client scripts. There's a new class available that controls all list behavior (for messages, contacts, identities) on the client side. I decided to do that in order to have the code separated and to give all new message list functionality like selection and keyboard events to all lists of the application. It also fixes the selection bug for the address book. Unfortunately I did not have the time to test it well, so expect some stuff to be broken. I removed the LDAP search temporarily because it also uses list functionality but is subject to be changed: it is planned to allow multiple sources for address data like the local address book and one or more LDAP directories. This will require a re-write of the LDAP access as well as the client scripts and I didn't want to change the LDAP list code now and then replace it with something else soon. Please forgive me that I broke some functions in the Trunk but I ran out of time to finish everything. Anyway, I decided to commit the changes before leaving for vacation and give you the possibility to review and improve the new list widget. And last but not least: we're looking for volunteers that will moderate the mailing list. If you're interested iin helping out for a while, please send a mail to bob [at] db [dot] org. Sender form field as text instead of select

Hey Guys, I'm new to the list and have been using roundcube for a couple of months. A few days ago I managed to break my installation and I'm not sure how I did it. I'm implementing tags!

Hi! I'm fed up with the fact that there are, to my knowledge, no webmail systems that support tags/labels (with the notable exception of GMail). So I'm going to do something about it. I'm going to add tags to Roundcube! =] I intend to read tags from, and store them as, IMAP Flags. The result should be somewhat interoperable with Thunderbird and Pine. (I've never used Pine, so I won't be able to test interop; I'm not a Thunderbird user but I have installed it and played with its tagging.) Now to the nitty-gritty. The plan, so far, is: - clean up the way flags are handled in rcube_imap.inc and lib/ imap.inc. They're up-cased, and "SEEN", "DELETED", etc are magical. I believe a better way to do this is to preserve flag case all the way through, and use "\Seen", "\Deleted", etc as IMAP does, including the backslash. Dealing with the backslash can mean some icky-looking code, but it shouldn't be a big problem. - add API for working with arbitrary tags. I think I'll start with steps/mail/mark.inc. I need to investigate exactly what this file is and when it gets called, though. - UI for tags. Not sure whether to clone GMail or what. Input would be especially appreciated here, I have a little UI-fu but I'm not a designer. Hey all, I am using the latest stable roundcube from the website, and my session is constantly dying when doing normal webmail things like deleting messages or even just leaving my computer and all of the sudden i am logged out. Is this a know bug with this version? Thanks, Justin

login aliases

some webhosters use logins different than the email addresses. therefor it would be useful to specify login aliases, as email addresses are easier to remember than randomly generated accounts ids. could this be added to the user settings? i want to login with email(a)myhost.com instead of 3463246

Bug, Unable to delete a message

Hello, I've got a bug using the last version of roundcube I wanted to delete 3 mails I selected them then select 'Move to trash' In my trash there was 3 other messages ... I tried to delete them from my trash Then i go back in my Inbox and all mails where there !!!

I can answer a couple of those things: The TinyMCE CSS styles are in: ../roundcubemail/skins/default/editor_content.css /editor_ui.css /editor_popup.css I am not very literate in CSS, but I've played around with some of the settings in those files and verified that the changes had the desired effect in the TinyMCE displays. There is a separate downloadable spellcheck plugin that should be configured to point to GoogleSpell. It should be in the .../js/tiny_mce/plugins directory. When I'm back at my development machine I'll try to track down what happened to it. I can't say much about the IE issues, but I know the editor popups have worked perfectly for me on Firefox 1.5 (on MacOS, Windows, and Linux) whenever I've used them. Do you get any JavaScript errors in your console, or errors from the editor_*.css files? As far as inserting the signature, the code in rcube.change_identities() is supposed to insert the signature. Can someone volunteer to help debug the signature insertion? Hi, I'm having the same problem with the same provider (OVH). Did you manage to get it to work ? I managed to make older Roundcube versions to work with OVH in the past but something prevent it now. Deleting / Moving messages to Trash

Hi, I am getting complaints from my users about RoundCube sometimes not deleting emails (in our setup that is moving them to Trash). Also, deleting is quite slow. The not-deleting-messages seems to be related to: - user having a somewhat large (>300 msgs) mailbox - me having a busy imap server (well, actually it's not really busy but i'm forced to using (s)ata junk) - user deleting a page of emails at once (that's 40 emails default) I added some logging statements and found that in my tests RoundCube spends 25 to 30 seconds in move_message(), particularly this part: foreach ($a_uids as $uid) $a_mids[] = $this->_uid2id($uid, $from_mbox); I suspect that the not-deleting-messages happens when this takes > 30 seconds, which is the default timeout for php scripts. Why is this taking so long? Digging further into the code shows that _uid2id() results in an imap SEARCH command. Is there no faster way? One minor thing when looking into this problem: I found that when dragging 40 selected messages to the Trash I _do_ get a 'busy' window, but when I click the delete button, I don't. In apps.js, this.move_messages(), it should set the busy window, but 'this.env.action' is undefined. Should this not be defined at this point, somehow? Robin

I have made a small patch to use HTTP Authentication in roundcube. http://trac.roundcube.net/trac.cgi/ticket/1388203 Can someone give me a clue how to solve the two additional problems mentioned in the ticket. 1. a access denied page is needed to avoid the login loop. 2. a logout page is needed to avoid the login loop. All, I just committed my changes to integrate the TinyMCE editor into RoundCube for HTML editing. The Subversion revision is 345. Everything should be pretty seamless, but please note the following: * To enable use of the editor for composing HTML messages, check the "Use HTML Editor" box in the Settings page * When replying/forwarding a plain text message, the plain text editor is always used by default. You can toggle on the HTML editor using the radio buttons below the text area * Spellchecking doesn't work within the HTML editor - I'm contemplating various solutions (anyone?) * There's a new column in the "identities" database table to store whether the signature is HTML or not. I modified the "initial" and "update" scripts in the SQL directory, but let me know if there are problems... * When sending an HTML message, a plain text version is also included in the outgoing MIME message. * Displaying picture attachments within the editor doesn't work - I think a custom TinyMCE plugin would be needed to bridge between the two. Some things I found after upgrading to 346: Much to many CSS errors in my javascript console. Some related to IE hacks (I'm working with Firefox 1.5.0.6). Basically in mail.css and also in common.css. I'll lay down only some, because there are too much: Unknown property 'behaviour' in line... In mail.css there you created a CSS selector for #preview as you see below. I then was able to make IE6 work with the next 2 selectors. The first one is a little more specific than the first selector so it will override the values from the first selector and use that expression to set the height for the preview panel. The next selector is a child selector which is only recognized by Firefox, IE7 and other modern browsers. That basically resets the height back to the default. The layout works as well in IE7 as it does in Firefox, so that is good. And this change does make it work for IE6, but once you adjust the size of your window the measurments are changed. My guess is the CSS expressions may not be reevaluated when the window changes size. But if you were to reload the page in IE6 it will fix the height so the preview works right. My guess is that IE6 does not handle the bottom style rule very well in this case. So setting the height with a dynamic value was the way I fixed it. Hi mr. Braindead can you give us an output from you smtp server log. That would maybe help to solve the problem... also remember that $rcmail_config['smtp_user'] = '%u'; and $rcmail_config['smtp_pass'] = '%p'; will send the user and password you use to login with(the same as the POP3/IMAP) anyways, that would normally not be a problem when communicating with localhost. but as i say, check the smtp server logs! A possible cause for my session timeouts

I can tell this is a troublesome bug to resolve, especially when it does not happen to you. But I have an idea on why it has happened on my system. First, I am running on a WiFi network and occasionally the WiFi connection display pops up and sayd the connection was connected, as though it had been disconnected momentarily. Session timeout, has to be top priority!!!

That is killing me! In Firefox I have lost multiple emails as I was writing them and then cannot go back and copy out my text. Thomas, Thank you for getting this into the Trunk. I will start testing as soon as possible. On the subject of UTF collation, I will need to look further into this. SQL Server does not support UTF but uses the UCS-2 standard for Unicode data instead. The first change would be to change the data types of all the char, varchar and text columns to nchar, nvarchar and ntext to allow Unicode - that's the easy part and we could then leave the collation as it is. I would then have to look at converting the UTF data to UCS-2 with a new function. I'll let you know how when I have more details. Hi, It must be tuesday. I'm productive today. Attached is my attempt at implementing a preview pane in the message list On single-clicking a message it halfs the list, and uses the remaining space for an <iframe> containing the message. 1. Is anybody interested in my efforts? 2. Any HTML object has an empty style in JS. How did that happen? For example, rcube_find_object('mailcontframe').style.length returns zero. 3. The iframe needs to be resized on browser resize. 4. href's within the iframe need to be sent to the parent. 5. I wanted to use this.set_busy(true) but could not yet find a proper place to this.set_busy(false). Robin

PATCH: Message with no parts

Hello, I have here (message.txt.gz) a problematic message. When trying to forward it, the body of the message disappears. I have a patch that fixed that, but am not 100% sure I'm doing the right thing. The message seems to have no mime parts, so $IMAP->get_message_part() fails to retrieve part number one. Also attached is the patch (no_parts_fix.patch). Can anybody comment if this is the right fix? Attachments not showing in message

I recently installed the latest relase (beta) and everything is working great, except, when I attach some documents (Excel .xls, for example), the attachment is sent fine, but when I copy myself and read the message I sent, it does not appear in the message - so I can't click on it or download it to verify my message. However, the fact that there is an attachment is tracked on the message list - there is a little attachment icon and attachment size on the message list summary. I tried retrieving the email from another email client and it does show the attachement fine... I tried the same exercise (email attachment, copy myself) with a .pdf document and there was no problem. So, I'm not sure what the pattern is - if it has to do with file size, type, etc. Both were relatively small attachments (<100K). Any ideas? Thanks. Todd

Hello, i use roundcube and i have some questions to the roadmap. If i see the releases from roundcube i see that every release have new functions and will bring new bugs and all old bugs are not fixed. why dont you fix all open bugs first and include after that new features? Small bug in spell checker

Hi, I just upgraded to latest svn (rev 329 I think) and I noticed a small bug in the spell checking. I you click twice on the spell check _icon_ (the one on the very top, not the textual one), a graphical bug appears with a double bar on top of edit box. In fact, it is creating another editbox, and if you click a third time, a third editbox is created (they are very small), and so on... I managed to have a ten of them. I you click on the "resume editing" text, everything is coming back to normal. I think that the solution to this would be to have the top icon to also have the same behavior as the textual one, that is switch between "check/resume". I've done some more testing and it seems that the issue is the fact that RoundCube is not including UID in the command its sending to my IMAP server. RoundCube is sending: s SORT (DATE) US-ASCII ALL UNDELETED This returns an error, but when I alter the command and test as: s UID SORT (DATE) US-ASCII ALL UNDELETED It works perfectly. I notice in the imap library code we now have a parameter which controls whether or not UID sort should be used... Does anyone have any ideas why it wouldn't be set true? Problem with message parsing with >= r326

Since SVN rev 326, I've had problems on one of my Roundcube setups (of course it's the one that's always the most problematic, the BincIMAP/Apache 1.3/PHP5 server) With 325, I would see headers but no body on most messages. With 326 I see the body but no headers. I'm also getting an SQL error in the log. RC & SQL Server

Whilst on the subject of different databases some of you may be interested in a port to MS SQL Server that I have made. The attached zip contains four files: mssql.initial.sql This is the TSQL code for creating the DB objects insert_id.txt This modifies the insert_id function in the rcube_db.inc file to allow for retrieval of the last identity value (@@IDENTITY) made to the database. unixtimestamp.txt This modifies the unixtimestamp function in the rcube_db.inc file now_function.txt This is a new function that is required to place the now() mysql function or getdate() mssql function in SQL query strings. For this to work all occurrences of the string "now()" in the project have to be replaced with a call to this function. Please let me know whether any of you can make use this port. John Woods

Client rewrite for RoundCube

Hi Brennan, I understand your concepts for enhancing the client code of RoundCube and I mostly agree with your ideas. The current code is very straight forward and grew with the application. It currently counts about 3900 lines! All actions are held in one object and are (mostly) invoked using one method: rcube.command(); I already wanted to split the code into task-specific files such as mail, address book and settings where all methods are added to the main class using rcube_webmail.prototype.nnn. Also creating some new classes for list functionality etc. was in my mind. There also popped up some plans and suggestions to make the client even more ajaxy and eliminate full page loads when switching between list, view and compose mode. Probably that's something we could include in this concept. Actually I agree with a rewrite as you suggested, the only disadvantage I see, is that this will take some time and it will stop the current development because merging could become very difficult. That's also the reason, why I cc-ed the mailing list because that's a task that concerns all developers. For me, it's no problem because I'll go on holiday for more than a month soon and will not work on the project then. Problems seeing mail

I'm having some trouble seeing the contents of mail some mail, and I thought it had to do the encoding specified in the header of the mail. But today I tried the latest svn version on a server I have with an older RC running, and I can't see the contents of a message sent by cron. If I click on "view source" I see the contents of the message, which are these (I eliminated all the received and delivered-to headers):

After getting another view mails, RoundCube worked no more. I got no HTML output after logging in. For now I solved the problem by setting the memory limit to 16MB. Filtering spam with SpamAssassin header

I would like to adjust RoundCube to automatically place new mail into the Junk folder if it has a spam ranking from SpamAssassin. On my server... http://pronto.offwhite.net/antispam.html ..I have SpamAssassin set up and it will place the X-Spam-Level header with a set of stars indicating the spam level. I think RoundCube could check the SpamLevel and provide a personal setting to allow the user to automatically drop spam into the Junk folder. SQL Reserved Words

Hello, I'm working on getting RoundCube to work with Oracle and have run into problems with SQL reserved words being used for both table and column names. Oracle is one of the most strict databases with regard to reserved words. Here is the list of tables and column names that I've found to cause problems: Tables: session (I changed it to sessions and updated my config file. Easy fix.) Reserved Field names: users.language messages.uid (Not SQL-standard reserved but Oracle reserved) messages.from messages.to messages.date messages.size There's also a problem in the identities table with a minus sign in one of the fields: identities.reply-to There is no mechanism to have table and column names mapped in the config file so I'm asking for a recommendation on how to proceed. I think the ideal solution would be to change all the columns from reserved words to allowed words since only UID is a special Oracle (and Postgres) reserved word and the rest shouldn't really be allowed anywhere. The other alternative is to quote them everywhere but I'm not sure how portable this is and I'm testing Oracle on it now. What does everyone suggest?
