Hi everybody I followed the conversation about the SF CVS problem and noticed all the suggestions for switching to SVN, to another server or even to move away from SourceForge. Just to make clear, I'm aware of the current CVS problems and I'm interested in better solution as well as you all are. The reason why I chose SF was the availability of tools without having to configure them by myself. This is something I still don't want to do and what I don't have time for. In October 2005 we discussed about setting up a Trac system which would combine a wiki for documentation, a bug tracker and a SVN server together in one box. We all agreed that this would be a very nice tool for further development. Then somebody offered to install Trac on his server (I don't have a server with Python available) and started setting up the service. Due lack of time, this was not finished and somebody else offered to take care of that and set up a new Trac installation. This was in December 2005. The result of that can be seen at http://trac.roundcube.net/. He imported a snapshot from the CVS and all SF tracker data and I added some styling to the new platform. We discussed some details about user management and some configuration changes and the Trac installation got finished for about 90%. February 26 was the last time I heard from Steeve and asked him for a target date when we can move data from SF to our new platform. Unfortunately an answer is still missing... As you can see, serious attempts were made to move away from SF but the main problem of open source projects is the quick loss of interest and the missing reliability of some project members. I can understand that since I have very little time for the project myself. After almost half a year, I call again for somebody who is willing to install and to maintain a Trac system, which is still a very good solution for our project, I guess. I can provide DNS entries, styles for the Trac site and some adapted Python scripts for importing data from SF. In the mean time, I published another CVs snapshot and we could move to the SF SVN server until we (hopefully) have our Trac platform ready. Comments are welcome... Thomas

I guess that you don't subscribe to the belief of gracious degradation then. To me javascript, while being capable of performing wonderful usability enhancing functions, should never be a requirement. Web pages and applications should be able to function perfectly well with JS disabled; JS can certainly be used to make things easier and flashier, but not at the cost of accessibility. I thoroughly recommend reading A List Apart http://www.alistapart.com; they have many many articles about accessibility, none of which advocates reducing your web site / application to an archaic state all in the name of accessibility. I realise that the majority of the functions within the application rely on javascript and I am certainly not trying to say it should all be rewritten, but I think that you should at least provide the ability to READ e-mails for those people using browsers without javascript support. Send bug?

Hey guys, I've noticed that sometimes mail isn't being sent, even though the message is coming back as it being successful. I'm in the habit now of checking my Sent mail folder and /var/maillog to see if it actually went out. If it didn't, re-sending it has always worked so far. So I'm perplexed as to what's going on. I haven't dug into the source and haven't really done any diag yet. Thought I'd email you guys first and see if it's a known issue or if others have reported it. I'm running the latest dev tree (as of a few days ago) on FreeBSD 6.0 with courier-imapd and postfix. If you guys would like more info, let me know. E-mail subject -> hyperlinks

Hi all, Something I have noticed and I'm not sure whether this has been attempted before and hence there's a good reason for it not being implemented, but can we make the subjects of e-mails become hyperlinks so that you can just click on them to view the mail? I have tried using RCW on my mobile phone and I can't actually read e-mails without a hyperlink to click. For DDA purposes, it's also a must from my point of view as I couldn't figure out a way of opening a mail with keyboard only (apologies for not RTFM!!); it's just more natural and easy if they're hyperlinks. In addition to this, e-mails with blank subjects would need to display <No Subject> or else there would be nothing to click on! (Something I would actually like to be done anyway; blank subjects stick out like a sore thumb and, due to the off-handedness with which those e-mails are usually written, don't deserve quite that much attention!) -- Richard Green

Round cube modifications

Hello, I'm new to the mailing list. I have noticed a few missing features in Round cube that I would like to implement myself. It doesn't have a way to move all mail in the inbox to the trash (you have to do it one page at a time). The same applies to the trash folder. There is no way to empty it in one step. Well, there hasn't been a discussion about that so far. I like it because it just does what I had in mind. Probably we can replace the server side spellchecking with aspell or something similar one day but the client script is very nice. An other thoughts? Just checked in a couple more changes to keyboard navigation (my specialty). You can now change the focus of the message in the message list by holding down control when using arrow key navigation. It looks great in Firefox, but not so great in IE. If there are any CSS wizards out there that want to take a look at this, feel free. The new class used is in mail.css (#messagelist tr.focused td). Also there were two bugs that I fixed. The first was that after you deleted (or moved) a message if you used the arrow keys to navigate you would still "select" the invisible message. That invisible message is now properly skipped. The second is that upon moving a message the next message was not selected. It now is.. unless it was the last message in the list. I'll address that ASAP. -Charles

Javascript error?

Additionally, it seems that search function is broken for my installation (while it used to work with the latest anonymous CVS). Anyone to give a hint? Can someone else verify this behavior? I am not sure these two issues are related. Ok, more on this... Replacing eval with alert shows: remote response etc etc this.set_unread_count('INBOX', 40); ¡&�(1�� Some of my folders are strangely named but even when I delete all folders and only have INBOX (in English), it still shows it. Message compose cc and bcc in opera

Just as a heads up the cc and bcc fields when composing a message do not appear correctly I am sure it is just opera miss interptreting something but figured I would let ya all know it does work properly in firefox. [PATCH] Fix PHP Warning in imap.php

With debug_level = 4, I was getting the following warning output when I clicked on a folder: Warning: mktime() expects parameter 5 to be long, string given in /usr/local/src/roundcube-cvs/roundcubemail/program/lib/imap.inc on line 625 The message index would not display sometimes; for example, 1. click on trash 2. drag message (unread) to inbox 3. click on inbox (yup, msg there) 4. click on trash (no message index displayed) Very strange, as when I viewed the source the table that display the message index was there. Integrating Googiespell in Roundcube

I have tried the spellcheck option already out there, but want to see about integrating Googiespell [http://amix.dk/projects/?page_id=3] into Roundcube. From the demo you see that it's as slick as it is in Gmail, so I've started another HOWTO to cover this, but can't figure out how to integrate it into the existing 'compose' textarea. Can someone take a look? Large mailboxes

Roundcube seems to have some difficulty dealing with large mailboxes (large meaning thousands of messages). It can manage indexing one of these, but if I try to actually show a message in a large mailbox, it basically hangs. When this happens, the browser just sits there waiting for a reply, and I can do a 'top' on the server and watch the apache process just eat up memory until it finally dies. It seems that Roundcube is digging through the mail and not releasing memory in some way, which becomes a problem as the mailbox size gets large. At least that's my theory. Does anyone else observe this? This is with Apache 1.3.34, PHP 5.1.2, MySQL 4.1.18 and Cyrus 2.2.12, running on FreeBSD 4.11p14. Thanks! -- Mark Edwards

I'll look into that. In the current system they are also set to display: none, but in a more direct way. In the new system the row has a new class appended to the className. In the old system the style was assigned display: none directly. In the old system to detect if a message was hidden was trivial, just look at the style. In the new system you have to look at the class to see what display is set to. I know that that was never done elsewhere in the code, so it's possible that totals could be messed up. -Charles

IMAP Inbox folder cache

Hi I have this weird issue with my installation of RoundCube. It may very well have already been fixed, so just LART me if its a known issue. What happens is with Courier-IMAP when one someone logs into RoundCube, it takes them to their Inbox but they do not see any new mail. Notice the double quote just hanging out there in the From address. This fubars the HTML which then messes up the JS call. It would seem that we need to escape headers. -Charles

Suggestion

First, absolutely wonderful application! Second, a suggestion. It would be great to have a "preview pane" as is typical with desktop email applications. So you don't have to actually double-click on an email but rather can have your list of emails and a view of the current email visible at the same time. Thanks, Jeremy

keyboard shortcuts?

Hi, one thing I'm really missing in roundcube which I know is possible and probably not too hard: keyboard commands. I know you can capture keyboard events in javascript so this surprises me (that it's not implemented yet). Am I missing something here? please tell... Anyway, I'm really looking for some easy shortcuts in non-composer mode to browse more easily (space -> next message, del -> delete selected message). Cheers, Auke

I know that there was a thread started here about message filtering: http://lists.roundcube.net/mail-archive/roundcube.dev/2005/10/376/ Anyone know the status on this? I'm liking RoundCube a lot! And if I decide to adopt it, I would want to forward all of my email addresses over to it, but I would want incoming emails to automatically go into certain folders, depending on the To Address, so that I don't have to go move each individual email into their folders. Do we just need to wait for this feature? Any ideas on a time frame? Keep up the good work. This is very nice!

RoudCube Dev list emails

Gentlemen and Ladies, I am avidly following all discussions and idea exchanges going on at the Dev list, but I am appalled by noticing the lack of "care" --which it could be lack of netiquette knowledge-- that is been exhibited. The emails sent to this list are a mess in formatting; the quoting is _terrible_, to say the least. It makes it very hard to quickly follow what it's been said. Could everyone, please, learn how to quote [1 and 2]? Could we use plain text in our emails (this is not too important, but it will help)? Sorry this is a bit OT of what's been discussed now, but I had to say it. All is needed is, knowledge of PHP and the way Cyrus or Corrier IMAP works (Siege is those IMAP servers unique feature, right?). I don't think it should be part of RoundCube. RC doesn't append @domain.com even with host specificed

I'm setting up roundcube on an account hosted by Mosso.com. I've set my host to: $rcmail_config['mail_domain'] = 'jtpre.com'; However, even though the server box is hidden at the login screen it will only log in if I put then entire email address for the username. I'm using the latest beta build from the website, not CVS. Can someone point out what I'm missing here? -Geuis

Saving message list sort order

If I like to always sort my messages ascending or descending, it can become a pain to have to select that every time I log into RC|Mail. I'm submitting some patches to fix this, so that the search column and search order is saved. set_sort_user_pref.diff sets the sort column/order into the session user_prefs . This is done when the message list is reloaded with a new sort param (which is done when you click on a column heading). However, the session user_prefs aren't saved normally (unless you go into preferences) which necessitates the following patch. save_prefs_on_logout.diff saves the session user_prefs into the preferences column of the user table in the database, so that it can be restored later. Frames and loading Compose window?

I am running roundcube in a frame and when I click the compose it doesnt loadwithin its frame it takes over the whole window. has anyone else run into this problem? or know of the logic behind it that would cause it? I've checked the code and its similar to the rest of the commands that load the other calls. Like reply and forward. They all load with in the frame like thier suppose to. System clock is strait, and timestamp of file in out mailbox is also correctly. all 'Received' header of mail contains this TZ, I'm using hungarian time timezone (GMT + 0100h), but RC displays it with -1 hour. what is the problem? thanks: a.

Where to go after deleting an email?

If you are viewing the contents of an email message, and you press the delete button, where should you go? Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail take you to the next message. Gmail takes you back to the message list. Currently, RC|Mail takes you back to the message list. I think I prefer being taken to the next message. Hi Jeff Currently all contact names and mail addresses are retrieved from the database and stored in javascript when opening the compose step. There's not AJAX request that performs a search operation on the server, it's all done client-side with javascript. That's also the reason why the LDAP contacts are not accessible while composing because the current method would probably exhaust the client's resources. I guess we have to add some sort of a complete button next to the address fields that sends the content of one address field to the server which then tries to complete the recipients based on the local address book and the LDAP directory. MS Web-Outlook has some similar functionality. Depending on the LDAP performance a live-search could also be possible. I hope this explanation helps you to understand how the address completion works. To discuss this further on, please subscribe and post to the dev-mailing list. SSL only?

I just did a new install of RoundCube Mail, and definitely some huge improvements since i tried it a few months ago... I was wondering if it was planned to have a SSL option in the config? At the moment i want all my webmail stuff to go over SSL, so i just added the following lines at the top of index.php: ---------------------- if (empty($_SERVER['HTTPS'])) { header('Location: https://'.$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'].'?'.$_SERVER['QUERY_STRING']); } ---------------------- I'm sure there is a much more convenient place to put this, but I think it would definitely be a good idea to at least have an option to make logins go over SSL. -- Alan Briolat <alan(a)dotphp.org>

Possibly OT: Help or todo list?

Hi all, I was looking around the roundcube.net site for a "todo" or help wanted list, but couldn't find one. Does one exist? Specifically, I'm interested in helping out with any backend/admin/whatever jobs. While I do have some coding experience, most of my experience is with system administration (including web, mail, DNS, etc.). Also, I have an abundance of server space and BW available on my own servers (Debian Sarge based); would this be of any help to RC or any peripheral portions of the project? Attachment Handling Bug - No Disposition

Hello! I've located (and I believe fixed) an issue with handling and displaying attachments in the latest CVS. In /program/steps/mail/funct.inc the following lines seem to be incorrect: // part is file/attachment else if ($mail_part->disposition=='attachment' || $mail_part->disposition=='inline' || $mail_part->headers['content-id'] || (empty($mail_part->disposition) && ($mail_part->d_parameters['filename'] || $mail_part->d_parameters['name']))) The final check $mail_part->d_parameters['name'] seems that it should actually be replaced with $mail_part->ctype_parameters['name'] based on the final 'else if' of the block which refers to that variable: else if ($mail_part->ctype_parameters['name']). This was preventing attachments which do not have content-disposition headers from being displayed. I've been doing some other work to improve attachment handling, but I thought I'd share this one first, since it appears a simple and complete fix... At least for viewing. These type of attachments are not included in forwards either, since the content disposition is not attachment... The following code in /program/steps/mail/compose.inc seems to prevent it: foreach ($FORWARD_MESSAGE['parts'] as $part) { if ($part->disposition != 'attachment') continue; .. I have to admit that I'm relatively new to contributing to open source projects, but I'd really like to be able to do so. Can I ask the development community for RoundCube -- what is the most effective way for for me to contribute to resolving issues such as these? Posts like this? Submitting bugs and diffs/patches via SourceForge? Please let me know how best to do this. I sincerely hope this is of use... Hello all Roundcube Developers (and those subscribed to this list). This is Brett Patterson (the Content Manager) and I have a fairly straight-forward request / message. The forum is now online, and thriving. I urge you all to check it out, and ask that you all register on the forums. There are sections for bug-reports and issues. I think the link being on this page says a lot about the movement: http://www.roundcube.net/?p=forum. Its authenticity cannot be denied as it's listed at the top of the page. I think in order to gain an idea of the scope of the movement we need to ask a different question: do people intend to continue using the mailing list as actively as before the forums sprung up? I've noticed that the mailing list is fully moderated, (please correct me if I'm wrong). Sometimes posts do not show up for a few hours if at all. I made a post to this list recently that never appeared. I've noticed that some days, there are no posts to the list at all and then a flood of them pours in the next day as the moderator was able to find the time to approve everything. In a forum, while moderated, posts show up immediately and can only be removed as someone with moderation privileges finds the time to check the forums. There are obviously heavy pros and cons on both forums and mailing list. It is nice to be able to direct a mail to the general community and the core developers and expect that those people will at least see the subject line in their email headers. A post made to a forum could be missed as it cascades down the page for a couple of days. Intuition can only imply that the mailing list will remain an integral part in the communication of the development community and user base as long as it continues to be hosted.

I'm one of the moderators. I'm in US eastern timezone and I'm constantly monitoring my email from around 9am to 6pm Mon-Fri and periodically at night and through the weekends. I know I'm not the only moderator for the various mailing lists, but I consider this my "shift". As soon as a new moderation email comes in, I review and approve/discard it ASAP.
