Catching "no connection" error

Hi I use roundcube with a webSSO, where it never have the IMAP password. Instead it receive an authentication token from apache and sends it to the IMAP server, which will validate it using a PAM module. The authentication token is valid within a time frame. When it expires, roundcube is denied access and it displays a "Server error (No connection)" message. Recovering from there is as simple as reloading the page: apache re-authenticate the user, a fresh token is generated and things work again. Question is: do I have a way to catch the error message, and juste cause a page reload instead of displaying it? -- Emmanuel Dreyfus manu(a)netbsd.org

Status of S/MIME and PGP support

Hi all Is there any information on the status of S/MIME and PGP support in RC? I would very much like to see that done, contributing code (or coding it myself) if necessary and I can cope (I've done similar stuff in Perl, PHP shouldn't be too different ...) I see there is the "enigma" plugin, which is work in progress (haven't looked at the code, though). Is there anybody currently working on it? Or on another plugin/solution to support mail encryption/signing? Thx /markus

Hi everybody, since RC 0.9b, there is a bug in my automatic_addressbook plugin when editing a contact with th move_to config option set to 1 This means that when editing a contact in the collected_abook, it is saved in the default abook and removed from its original collected_abook (calling $CONTACTS->insert and setting abort to true and result to the new cid) the log is showing : [07-Dec-2013 14:18:16 Europe/Paris] PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type rcube_result_set as array in /var/www/vhosts/ssl_common/webmail/test/rc09b/program/steps/addressbook/save.inc on line 134 this seams to come from the following lines of code in program/steps/addressbook/save : $record = $CONTACTS->get_record($newcid ? $newcid : $cid, true); $record['email'] = reset($CONTACTS->get_col_values('email', $record, true)); it seems to me that get_record return in general a record, but can return in some circonstances a rcube_result_set object and the next line of code can't handle this (array assignation on a rcube_result_set object). Can somebody confirme this ? What are the condition for get_record to return an rcube_result_set with only 1 object in it ? I don't already understand very well what happens but I can make additionnal tests to help debug this. If you can confirme this seems to be a bug, I'll file a bug report. regards, sebastien

Larry: Improved #message element behavior/location

Hello devs and list lurkers One of the remaining big tasks we have scheduled for Roundcube 1.0 is the re-location of the status messages: http://trac.roundcube.net/ticket/1488974 Many people complained that the location at the bottom of the screen is somewhat out of the user's sight and the messages itself are not visible enough. Please find attached a suggestion to refactor the status messages into stacked popups but still located at the bottom of the window. What do thou think? Kind regards, Thomas

Problems with sending messages IE8/1.0-git (Javascript error)

Two problems I just realized in IE8 when I want to send a message with IE8/1.0-git in a separate window: 1) A few seconds after the window has been opened the following error message appears in the lower left corner of the status bar: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- > Meldung: Das Objekt unterstützt diese Eigenschaft oder Methode nicht. > Zeile: 3712 > Zeichen: 9 > Code: 0 > URI: http://***.de/program/js/app.js?s=1384978220 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The result aifter clicking the send button is that the message IS being sent, but the window stays on the screen and Roundcube "thinks" that it has NOT been sent. 2) Clicking on the Cancel button and on the OK button in the consecutive message box does NOT cancel the message - the window stays on the screen in this scenario as well. Thanks for this fix - works for me! Nonetheless there is still another issue with such kind of messages: In the message list, attachments are not indicated (the 'paper clip' icon is missing). Hooks 'message_compose' and 'message_compose_body'

In current 1.0-git (master) and in 0.9.5 I see that $isHTML is set to false if we pre-define body content by hooks 'message_compose' and/or 'message_compose_body' regardless whether or not user preference is 'HTML': ./program/steps/mail/compose.inc ::: lines 643 ff. else if ($COMPOSE['param']['body']) { $body = $COMPOSE['param']['body']; $isHtml = false; } Is there a special reason for this behavior? I guess it is a bug. At least it prevents me to pre-define HTML compose bodies. If there is a special reason for this fallback to text bodies then please note that the HTML Editor select box is set accordingly; it is set accordingly to user's preference. I have already contacted Alec and he replied: "$COMPOSE['param']s in general are for text only, because they are URL parameters. If you want to inject any body use message_compose_body hook. Feel free to propose fix/better solution via pull request." I think Alec is not right. $COMPOSE['param'] is also set by the hook 'message_compose'. saving drafts to localstorage

Is this feature request to store drafts in localstorage defined in any detail anywhere? Is it partially implemented anywhere, or part of a plugin? I looked and couldn't find anything other than a couple of messages in the dev archives. My main question is whether we're going to save the drafts as unencrypted data? Is this something that people are comfortable with? Especially given that we would not store this as session-only data (because we presumably would want to restore data from an interrupted session), it seems like storing it as unencrypted might represent problems (at least for some more sensitive e-mails). The obvious solution would be for the server to store a private key and to send a public key to javascript for encrypting localstorage. That raises issues of where to store the private key, and how/when to generate it. It also starts to overlap with Alec's GPG plugin. Would we want to use the same GPG key that we use for sending encrypted messages (essentially sending them to ourselves), or would this be a completely separate key just for localstorage that we could potentially generate at setup and just store along with the userdata in the database. If I can get some answers to these questions, I'd love to start developing this. -Charles

I think these options under "Default action of [Reply all] button" in context with the commit message "Add an option to disable smart Reply-List behaviour"... - reply to all - reply to mailing list only (if found) ...require either some explanation or different phrasing. The latter option sounds to me as if any reply-all action would be disabled when replying to a non-list message. But I dare to believe that this isn't true, right? (Untested) Furhermore, the Reply-All button has two options anway. To which of these two options does this change apply? Or is it just a toggle which of these two options of the button will be taken by default when just clicking on the button without explicitely selecting one of those options? If so, then it's even more confusing. Just wanted to confirm that the commit below appears to work (see screenshot attached). :) Just one thing: Is there any way to keep those AJAX messages (or however they are called) on the screen until they have been "clicked away" (or confirmed with the Enter key) by the user? Especially in this case that would make most sense as it takes some time to read (and understand) the message, but it does appear on the screen for just 7 seconds or so. This one appears to work as well now. Thanks a lot! As we finally seem to be done with all those different identity selection scenarios upon replying to a message: Is there any hope that we will be able to assign a default identity to an entry in the address book? Example: When I compose a new message to any Roundcube list, I still have to change the identity manually (and am sometimes missing that, so the message won't be delivered). Keyboard navigation "fixes"

I'm not sure what the intention of those several Ctrl+click fixes is and what the space bar should now do exactly, but Ctrl+click in the message list doesn't work in latest 1.0-git - at least not with IE10. It does still work in 0.9.5. Hi there, may I ask what the intention of the commit quoted below exactly is...? Here it changed the behaviour of select_identity apparently in so far as the address in the From: header is now being selected as the identity, even if it does not match the full mailbox spec (name+address). Most likely not, as the ticket hasn't been closed yet. But the commit serves at least a part of the purpose of this ticket (= use From: header as identity even if it doesn't match full mailbox spec). Hi there, we're unsure and a bit confused about how to handle the plugin configs in our 1.0-git test environment: 1) Almost all plugins do still use the legacy "$rcmail_config" array in their .dist file, rather than "$config". Do we need to manually run a search/replace across all config.inc.php(.dist)? 2) The plugin 'password' for instance does already use the "$config" array in it's config.php.dist. But this is not being reflected in config.inc.php (shouldn't there be some sort of automatism?). 3) Furthermore, the same plugin 'password' does contain a number of new config settings in .dist - but also those did not find their way into the .php file. So we have to merge them into .php as well? If so: Hmmm, I have seen (and even developed) more convenient and automated ways of updating configs already, but that was decades ago under DOS/16... ;) JFTR: The 'password' plugin is just an arbitrary example, the same may/will most likely apply to other plugins as well. But 'password' is just the first one where we recognized that "$config" is being used at least in the .dist file already. Any helpful advice appreciated. state of unit tests

What is the current state of the unit tests? I am getting many failures of both the PHP and Selenium tests, but I was running them off on master, not a released version. Part of the problem was that I was hitting the 120 second PHP timeout that's hardcoded into iniset.php. When you run the tests do you manually change that or is there some other way of running the tests that bypasses the execution timeout? Are tests being added to and maintained? I've become used to test-driven development with jQuery, and it feels a little dirty to submit a bug or a pull request without a corresponding unit test. -Charles -- Sent using Roundcube http://roundcube.net/

Hello team, I spent quite a few hours back in 2006 "scratching my own itch" in the roundcube code. I haven't had much time to work on it since then, but I happen to have some time at the moment to dedicate to the project. I just submitted a pull request that will make "control-click" and "control-arrow-key" behave more like a native application. One thing that has always bothered my about the roundcube layout is that there's no way to know which message in the list has the "focus" in cases where the focus is separate from the selected message. For instance if you select a message, and then CTRL-click that same message, it will be unselected, but it still has the focus, because if you then click the down arrow it will select the next message. The css "outline" attribute would work for this, but there are some inconsistencies with where exactly each browser places the outline - and IE (including IE10) does not support the outline-offset attribute at all, which means that the outline doesn't work very well in IE (no surprise). To see what I mean, you can insert the following style into styles.css: .records-table tr.focused { outline:1px dotted black; outline-offset: -1px; } I'd appreciate any thoughts on the issue! -Charles McNulty

I scoured the code for keyboard handling and here's what I found: Message & Contact List (unless otherwise noted): Up and down arrow keys: Select next/previous item When selecting a message in a thread: Plus/minus keys: Open/close the thread Spacebar: Toggles thread open and closed +/= key: Open thread (firefox - not chrome) Page-up/page-down: Load previous/next page Home/end: Select first/last item Enter key: Show message (not applicable to contacts) Escape key: Cancel mouse drag (mid-drag) Delete key: Delete selected items Backspace key: Delete selected messages only (does not work for contacts) It doesn't look like this is documented anywhere. Anyone care to add this to the wiki? I'd be happy to create/manage a wiki page for key-bindings, or it could just be added to the User_Guide page. Personally, I think they could be tweaked though, and maybe that should happen before documenting the behavior. 1) The (+/=) key support is browser dependent, and could probably just be dropped. 2) The backspace key works for messages but not contacts and seems redundant with the delete key - additionally some people use the backspace key for "back" in a browser. I'm not suggesting we support using the backspace key for browser-back, but I am suggesting that we might not want to delete messages if a user presses it intending to go back. 3) I think that we should add left/right cursor (arrow) key support to expand/collapse threads. -Charlie

Hey all, ive gotten some complaints regarding a recent git version with a test user base. It seems you can no longer scroll a message in the messageview. I can reproduce this on my iphone with today's git version but ive also had android complaints. This is a pretty serious issue as it makes rc unusable on mobile devices. Post hooks for DB operations

Hi all, I'm currently writing a plugin that needs to act after an identity has been inserted into database. There is an identity_create hook that is called before the identity is inserted. How about adding a hook (whose argument would be data for the newly created identity, including the identity_id), that would be called after the database record has been created? That way you could write a plugin that could, e.g. 1. use identity_create to start a DB transaction and possibly modify identity data 2. use the new identity_stored (or something similar) hook to write it's own record into its own database table (with a constraint referencing the new identity) and commit the transaction (or rollback if something went wrong) Similar to those, I would also propose post-insert/update hooks for other events that could prove useful, so: identity_stored ( $record ) for after an identity was stored (created or updated) user_created ( $record ) for after a new user has been created contact_stored ( $record ) for after a contact has been stored (created or updated) group_stored ( $record ) for after a group has been stored (created, updated, renamed, members added, members deleted) preferences_stored ( $record ) for after user's preferences have been saved Is this acceptable? It's not too complicated to add those and I'd be willing to contribute the code and document the changes on the wiki. If not, I'd appreciate if you could clue me into how I might be able to write a plugin that needs to do something similar as described above (i.e. create records in additional tables that keep referential integrity with records in Roundcube's own tables). Hey all, ive been getting some feedback regarding the larry theme. Most of it i can handle myself, but one specifically keeps coming back. People dont realise that this button does anything, and miss all the feature that are accessed through it: http://grab.by/rkkc It's in a bit of a strange place. You click on the left, but it opens something underneath. It doesnt really look very clear what it's supposed to do. I would actually prefer to start it out in open, and let people figure out how to close it, that would sure save us a lot of support calls. Text search - timeouts and other issues

My INBOX has > 10,000 messages. When doing a text search in the body across those messages, I'm ALWAYS getting a timeout the first time. Sometimes also when doing it a second time. But when doing it at least the third time (but sometimes at the second attempt already), I get a result within a few seconds. Is there anything we can do server-side which can improve this? IMAP server is Cyrus. Furthermore, how does the text search work at all in detail? If I enter for instance "term1 term2" (without the quotation marks), does RC look for "term1" OR "term2", or does it look for "term1" AND "term2"? And if the latter, does it look for "term1 term2" as an exact phrase, or does it look separately for "term1" AND "term2" anywhere in the body? And do quotation marks have a meaning at all? Our users are asking us this, and currently we don't have a good answer for them. Last but not least: Will there be a header only search available in the near future? This can result in random file access, manipulated SQL queries and even code execution. The latter one only affects versions 0.8.6 and older. Beside the security fix, the 0.9.5 release also includes other minor bug fixes and improvements. Most notably it brings the default spell checker back after Google suspended their public spell checking service. Looking at the commit and as the plugin itself does exist already, this would be only 5 lines of new/changed code. Identity selection appears to be completely broken (I assume due to the commit below). The default identity is being selected always, but even that doesn't work correctly: The signature is not being loaded into the editor. Hey all, I know in the past there has been some discussion about the need for mail_host. In our specific setup mail_host is really a huge pita. For example, we allow customer service employees to impersonate a customer. This is done through a specific imap server that allows impersonation. But this doesn't work, because roundcube will create a new config entry in the database because the imap server changed. Even though from our point of view, the imap servers deal with the same user base. Wouldn't it be possible to have a config option $config['mail_host'] = false; if you set this to a specific mail_host, the mail_host column is always set to that config option. If thats a 'wont fix' from roundcube, is there a way this could be done through a plugin? Cor

Being on vacation, I finally find the time to play with the new identity_select plugin. Works pretty well so far, but I may have found a small glitch: For testing purposes, I have created the following identities: -------------------- > identity01(a)test.de > identity02(a)test.de > identity03(a)test.de > bla(a)test.de > blubb(a)test.de -------------------- The config entry in config.inc.php is: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > $config['identity_select_headers'] = array('x-envelope-to', 'envelope-to', 'delivered-to'); ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then I create a reply to the message attached. The identity being chosen by RC is - much to my surprise - "bla(a)test.de". Although none of the headers does contain this identity at all. There are four headers containing the string "not_bla(a)test.de", of course, but this is anything but identical to "bla(a)test.de". Something is going wrong in terms of string comparison here. Any other tests did produce correct results so far (I'm not finished yet with testing, though). Cursor-up in Editor occasionally not working

I'm currently working on a Win7/32 Home Premium machine with IE9 and RC 1.0-git. First I thought the Cursor-up key of the keyboard is defective, but then I realized that it's working fine anywhere else - except in the message editor of Roundcube while composing a message. It moves the cursor either just one line up or even no line up. It also depends if you are in a text block preceded with a quote char ">", or in an empty line, or in a "normal" (not quoted) text block. Has anybody else encountered such a behaviour already? Afterwards I realized that upon composing the next message, the key is working fine again in the message editor of Roundcube. So this behaviour is not consistent, and unfortunately I wasn't able to find a replicable scenario yet. :( But I have encountered it more than once already, so there must be one. What's wrong with this message?

The body of the (probably spam) message attached can't be displayed in RC 0.9.4 and 1.0-git (Win7/64 and IE8). Roundcube keeps displaying "Loading..." forever at the top of the screen. It's even tricky to download it as an .eml, and I can't recall how I (accidentally) managed it after several unsuccessful attempts. Usually all menu commands such as "Download (.eml)" or "Show source" do not react anymore at all, also "Toggle raw message headers" doesn't work. All that is being displayed in the preview pane, are the standard headers. The only string that I changed with a hex editor in the attached message, are the several occurrences of the address of the original recipient. Replicable...? Pulgin: Sub menues how-to?

Hello I'm writing a plugin to be able to configure some custom quirks of our email solution. I would need to do sub-menues, similar to the 'Preferences' where you have submenues for 'User Interface','mailbox view', etc. Just writing a simple plugin based on the 'spamassassin' plugin, was not too hard. But how do I create sub-menues within a plugin? I couldn't find any template or documentation. Also no other plugins seem to use sub-menues (Well, the sieve filter plugin does for filter-sets etc. but that is done in a way I don't understand). Is there a plug-in that does sub-menues in an easy way I could use as a template? Could someone help me with a simple template? larry notifications

Hey all, I'm probably just unable to find it, but is there a way to get more visible notifications in larry from plugins? If I send an error notification, I get a nice large error box that animates away, but if I send a notice, i only get a green font message in the status bar of the iframe. This is barely visible on larger screens because it's relatively far away from the action that creates the notice. Can I get an animated/faded notice box saying something succeeded ok? Regards, Cor

Hey all, I'm wondering if there are some docs that explain how to create a new tab for preferences, where if you click on the tab, you get a listbox where multiple plugins could register for a row. Basically imitating how the settings-tab works. Ideally the plugins would not have to worry about the tab, but could just register their own section on that tab. Hello folks One item on the 1.0 roadmap is to improve documentation for Roundcube. I recently started some efforts to achieve this. Now I'd like to ask you for proof-reading, review and contribution. First, I tried to clean the wiki pages that describe Roundcube's installation, configruation and upgrading. Please review the pages from the Trac wiki [1] listed under "Getting Started". As you can see, there are still some "TBD." present. Also, the FAQ page is totally outdated and should be re-written completely. Everybody is welcome to make corrections and additions directly on the wiki. Second, I started to write some end-user documentation AKA online help. The pages are written in reST and generated with Sphinx which I found to be very handy for this task. I therefore created a new git repository [2] where all the sources are maintained and tried to summarize it in the README file and on our wiki [3]. The help docs are structured in a way to allow additional contents from plugins to be integrated. The idea behind all this is to provide a framework what will let you generate your individual online help files that describe all the components you chose for your Roundcube installation, even with screenshots from your custom skins. The generated files can then be linked into the help plugin with context-sensitive deep-links [4]. A first release of the online help for version 0.9 can be found here: http://roundcube.net/doc/help/0.9/en_US/ Again, I'd like to invite you all to read through these documents and make corrections or additions by sending pull requests to the roundcube/roundcubemail-helpdocs github repository. Codebase cleanup, PSR-1/2 compliance - and before you say no, I'm offering to do the work

Hey everybody, I'm David and I would like to help out. Starting on any project, it's usually best to get familiar with the codebase. Now - I really enjoy combing through and cleaning up codebases and that's usually a great way to do just that. I think if there are more than three indents (within a function), you can usually simplify the code and make it easier to understand while you're at it. I actually, weirdly, enjoy a 80 character line limit and while I usually prefer tabs (I disagree with PSR-2 on that), I'm fine coding with 4 spaces for indentation. I'd be happy to accommodate to special customs, of course, although I do think that sticking to PSR - flawed as it may be in spots - really helps enable collaboration by convention. Session Class Questions

I'm exploring the rcmail_session class to hunt down some intermittent issues with untimely session expiration, and to develop a better remember_me extension (or attempt to get it into core...). Is the reason for security, or perhaps a load-balancing?

Quotas not updating

Sorry if this isn't the place to ask this.. I'm having one little issue and I'm hoping it's just something I'm doing wrong. Running postfix/dovecot/vimbadmin. Quotas work just fine. They display fine. Except when I went to change some users storage space this is not reflected in roundcube. Space was changed in vimbadmin, its reflected in the mysql table so all is well there. When I hover over the bar in roundcube it shows the previous amount. Is this a cache thing or does it pull that amount every time I log in. Thank you. Update 0.9.4 release

Dear Roundcube lovers! It wouldn't be Roundcube if there wasn't a minor glitch in our stable releases every now and then :-) It so happened again in the recent 0.9.3 release where the new include_path check triggered some regex warnings on Windows systems. We apologize for this inconvenience! But we're trying hard to keep up and here's a new release which fixes that nasty bug together with some other reported issues that we considered worth being ported to the 0.9 release series. It's considered stable (really!) and we recommend to update all productive installations of Roundcube with this version.
