Hello, So I read the "performance" is at least one of the reasons caching is on. Can this be elaborated on? It seems to be that this is actually adding overhead as the bottleneck for getting messages will likely not be roundcube accessing the imap server, but the clients accessing roundcube. It is possible to access the IMAP server (cyrus) directly and not use caching? Please CC me as I am not on the list. Thanks, Adhamh

I agree with some of the other folks on the list... RC looks very cool. I love the idea of having a modern alternative to squirrelmail, and it was easy to install (way to go!). I noticed though that it doesn't seem to display quite right in Safari... the text from one column (like Subject) spills over into the next column (like Sender). It's just a cosmetic thing but it's enough to make it hard to use. Are there are any plans to support Safari? If so that'd be way cool. Also, and I guess this has been mentioned before on this list, RC doesn't seem to handle folders with a large number of messages. I've got one with over 6000 messages, and when I click on it, it spins for a few seconds and then produces an error message ("...failed to open stream..."). If I leave it for a few minutes and then click on another folder, then it complains than "my session is invalid or expired". It would be nice if it just connected to the IMAP server again, instead of making me type in my username all over again. And while I'm on roll :-), let me concur with the suggestion to use a single-click- based UI. That would make a nicer user experience I think, and besides it's how I expected it to work because I'm used to Apple Mail. But so far it looks like a sweet program. Thanks guys! -g.

issue with setup/login

Good Evening! I setup roundcube on an apache 2.0.4x with php4 running on FreeBSD 4.11. i'm trying to log in, and i'm not getting any errors. there is no output what so ever, my logs don't even show anything. The error i get on the screen says your session is invalid or has expired. I cannot find any errors anywhere. Unforunately the webmail is not putting out any log files. I even have the main.inc.php set // system error reporting: 1 = log; 2 = report (not implemented yet), 4 = show, 8 = trace $rcmail_config['debug_level'] = 4; I've run out of ideas. IMAP SERVER OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 LITERAL+ SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS STARTTLS AUTH=LOGIN] localhost IMAP4rev1 2004.352 at Sat, 29 Oct 2005 00:30:49 -0400 (EDT) If anyone could help me i'd appreciate it. Install issue, "Your session is invalid or expired" and sqlite version

So when I try to login to roundcube I get a message saying that: "Your session is invalid or expired" What could cause this? (BTW, its very annoying that when I click on this message it disappears. Having to view the HTML source to copy the error text is annoying.) I'm running 10.4.2 Server which ships with sqlite3. I modified the config to be this: $rcmail_config['db_dsnw'] = 'sqlite://./sqlite.db?mode=0646' However when I use sqlite3 to inspect the database it appears that it was created using sqlite2. issues with database backends

Hi !! Some thoughs about database backends is some particular situations: cache -> maybe it will be better to store the cache data on some other sort of file based database (plain text file, dbm, sqlite ...) Session is invalid or expired

Hello, I have been trying to set up roundcube, and am still unable to log in. I went through the install procedure, and everything seemed to be ok. The first time I tried to log in it had a failure because I didn't enter my whole username (username(a)domain.com). The second time I tried to log in, there was a db error, as I didnt chmod the db file. Now whenever I log in it gives me an error "session is invalid or expired", and I am a bit stuck. I checked my cookies and can see the cookie that roundcube sets, so cookies are working. I tried restarting my webserver, restarting my browser, deleting the cookie and trying again, etc. I get the sameerror every time. I even tried to do it from opera even though you dont mention roundcube would support opera - same error. I'm sure it's a simple thing, but I can't figure it out on my own. Other php scripts work fine, and save my session ok. I'm wondering, could this be a problem to do with php5? Relevant stuffs: roundcube1021 apache2.0.54 php5.05 gentoo linux

Cookie Problem

Hi, I have been trying to log into this webmail client, with no luck so far (I have it installed locally on my XP bow, with Apache2, php5, and mysql). Now, the application is complaining that my browser does not accept cookies. Strange why it is doing this, because it was working fine earlier and I didn't change any browser setting. I have lowered all of my security setting in Internet Exploiter (to the absolute lowest) but it still complains (I know I am allowing cookies, because I can see cookies that have been set and I can access other sites that use cookies). Hello again! Looks like I can use SMTP, but only if I provide my main username/password, %u and %p give this error. SMTP Error in /usr/home/deb1260/domains/remmelt.com/public_html/roundcubemail/program/steps/mail/sendmail.inc (183): SMTP error: Failed to send data I'll describe my situation: I have a hosting account with a regular commercial provider (antagonist.nl). The provider enabled php's safe mode on its servers. My main login name there is deb12xx. This user has an emailaddress (the main or mother email) that I redirected to my regular address: remmelt(a)remmelt.com. The deb12xx name is what I use when I ftp into my account. This user, when logged in to rcmail set to smtp with %u and %p as user/pass can send email. The account comes with a couple of free pop boxes (not aliases), all of which can log in to rcmail using the entire email address as username. These users however can not send email through smtp, probably because they're not os-level users as well, just email accounts inside my virtual host. The mail() function works, but because of safemode restrictions only without the 5th parameter, so the return-path is not set correctly: it's always deb12xx(a)remmelt.com. The only resolution is to hardcode deb12xx with my main password in the main.inc.php, something I'd rather not do. I have checked, it works, but I wouldn't call it safe. When I log in with the remmelt(a)remmelt.com address as username (ie one of the free pop boxes) into squirrelmail, all is fine. I can send mail (obviously) and the return-path is set correctly, so I'm using that to send to the list. It might be that squirrelmail is using sendmail to send, but I can't check that at the moment. A workaround for this problem is to set the free pop box password(s) to the same as the deb12xx pw, so I could hardcode the username in main.inc.php and use %p as password. This works, but it's hardly feasible because now I have to give my main password out to anyone who uses the system. So far that's only me, but still. Thanks again, Remmelt

Cannot send messages to this list from RCmail

Hey! I've set both From: and Reply-to: addresses to my own emailaddress in RCmail's options but headers that are sent out contain Return-Path: which is set to my virtual host's mother email address (hostingaccount-username(a)domain.tld). This listsoftware looks at the return-path rather than from or reply-to, which means I can't send messages to the list directly. This is tested. I can send messages through squirrelmail, though. I must add that I have disabled the 5th parameter for php's mail() function because it is not allowed in safe mode. My virtual host is safemoded and I can't change that. Apart from the above bug, sending and receiving works fine. I can't verify if the Return-Path: is set to the motheremailaddress for none-safemode hosts with the stock mail()+5th param. Could the listmoderator please let my previous message through? It was sent about half an hour ago and contains a patch and my introduction to the list and some bugs! Thanks! Remmelt

Login Problems

Hi, I am trying to get this webmail client up and running on an XP box (that is probably my first problem). Apache2 is talking to php5, which is talking to mysql. I built the database and tables and set the user permissions. Note that I had to change 2 tables, in order for some sql calls to work (when logging in). I changed the identities table and the users table. In the identities table, I removed NOT NULL from the preferences column. In the users table, I removed the NOT NULL from the signature column. Now, the index.php page comes up and I provide a username and password and a server (not sure if this is the exchange server, or the SMTP server, I have tried both [by IP and by nodename]). And then when I click the login button, it churns for 120 seconds and then the following error is thrown: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 120 seconds exceeded in C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\roundcube\program\lib\imap.inc on line 104 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Anyway, Which IMAP Server are you using? From my experience "dovecot" is faster than any IMAP server, ESPECIALLY if it comes to huge mailboxes, because it uses per mailbox "index database files". You might give it a try, if you have got the possibility. Yes, unsubscribing from my larger 'archive' folders did the trick, it's very fast to login now, as I probably have perhaps 15,000 messages in my 'current' folders vs 80,000ish in my archive folders. Hello all, my name is Henrique Meira, from Brazil. I would like to work in this project. Right now, I would like to know if exist any work about filter messages, and whether there are need of any help or not. Translations to portuguese (brazilian) are showed with some characters truncated, such as 'ç' (cedilha), I think so that problem is charset definition. A problem: I try to install RoundCube in a machine with Apache 2, PHP 4.2.2, and I get some errors of fail on try load files, such as include/*, but the package put this directory (include) into a sub-directory of program directory, so, index.php file never will be found any include files... nobody have this problem? Last point: are there any possibility of the RoundCube to work on PHP 4.2.2 ? best regards, henrique.

I think I originally switched because the authentication being used by MySQL wasn't supported by the old mysql library. You could switch the authentication scheme, but since I have all my stuff running on mysqli, phpbb, joomla, and mambo before that, I didn't see any reason to stop using it. Roundcube made it very easy through its DB abstraction. Also, Roundcube uses mysql and not mysqli for MySQL be default. I didn't know if anybody else had tried it yet. I'm running the 20051021 build on PHP 5 and MySQLi. Working fine so far. I do not have a lot of people to test it. I had to make the following changes. Insert the following after the mysql case ending on line 174 of rcube_db.inc case 'mysqli': return mysqli_insert_id($this->db_handle->connection); In db.inc.php make this change to line 21 $rcmail_config['db_dsnw'] = 'mysqli://user:pass@localhost/dbname'; If you have chrooted mysql and have to use TCP like me then remember to change the host accordingly. $rcmail_config['db_dsnw'] = 'mysqli://user:pass@127.0.0.1/dbname'; If this was already posted by somebody then never mind. :-) Adam

Hi list A few days ago i tried RoundCubeMail for the first time and must say. GREAT JOB! It is easy to handle and exactly what i was looking for. I tried to send a few test mail's, and everything works fine except the oldest computer problem since other languages than English were used. If i send some special characters like æøå ÆØÅ they are scrambled during send. The header is fine, it's only the body. Does someone already know how to fix the problem? What can i do to fix it? Yes, unsubscribing from my larger 'archive' folders did the trick, it's very fast to login now, as I probably have perhaps 15,000 messages in my 'current' folders vs 80,000ish in my archive folders. It *seemed* it was slower in the 102505 CVS than the 102105 release, but might have been my imagination. Cheers

Having problem with Roundcubemail dealing with PMDF IMAP server

I installed Roundcubemail on my Gentoo box last week and was able to get it to work until this issue dealing with PMDF IMAP server running on OpenVMS server. I was able to log in to Roundcubemail using my VMS username and password, and I was able to view my INBOX and some other folders for the first time. However, when I composed a new email, I was able to see that email gets copied to Sent folder after the delivery, but when I went back to view my INBOX folder, it shows empty while loading status stay constant. I logged out and tried to log back in by reentering my username and password, only this time I wasn't successfully able to log in and an error message will display after it timeout. Maximum execution time of 120 seconds exceeded in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/roundcubemail/program/lib/imap.inc on line 104 I downloaded the latest CVS version and I get this message instead. Maximum execution time of 120 seconds exceeded in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/roundcubemail/program/lib/imap.inc on line 105 BTW it works great with MS Exchange server with IMAP running. Slow startup question

I've just installed RoundCube a few days ago, and it seems the latest CVS is slower than the last release of 102105, is it doing more folder counting? If so, I would like to put a suggestion in for a caching of folder sizes with a background update, something to that effect, to make initial login and Inbox viewing faster. I have 750M of email in my imap account, one mailing list 'archive' of 56k emails. I should likely move the folder elsewhere, as it'd probably improve performance, but it'd be good for Roundcube to initially process faster. Also perhaps an option not to count messages in folders at all. That would definately make things faster, or as suggested above, a delayed count. I'm going to try unsubscribing from my old archive files and see if that improves performance for now. Great work guys, it works amazingly well, but perhaps you're being very modest with the versioning.. :) And it's beautiful too. Cheers.

Problem with message body fetching

removing old IMAP folders (fresh account) seemed to fix the other problem I was having with body displays (did not display on double-click). however, I'm not seeing a different problem that seems to have something to do with fetching bodies off the mail server. Below is what I have for my body, no matter the actual contents: 1 FETCH ( And nothing else. I havn't had a chance yet to get into the code to see where the fetch routines are, so thought I'd post this here in case someone might have a quick idea. This problem is true both with the build on the web site (0.1-20051021) as well as today's current CVS (although with the CVS version I also get an odd error about a syntax error in program/include/rcube_db.inc, although it doesn't seem to actually break anything). Proposal for release test procedure

What I could see so far since reading mails of this list is that there are a lot of bugs found by all of us and a lot of bug fixes are also shared through this list and last but not least the developers are really trying to fix (following their priorities) all those things quickly. I like this webmail client and I think it has a very good potential to start a small revolution within the open source webmail area. What I also see is that, there is still a long way to go to reach "stable" status, but forgive me if I am wrong: All of us want to see this product getting there as soon as possible due to lack of good (and more important nice looking) alternatives. As I am not a very experienced software developer, especially when it comes to DHTML, I am unfortunatly not able to contribute in that way. What I and for many other _users_ could do is testing, reporting bugs and verifying bugfixes in a proper way. I would suggest to create some fixed test procedures with corresponding check lists, which every release should be tested against. Some examples: 1) Sending / receiving mails with attachements (zip, rar, 7zip, ace, jpeg, gif, etc) 2) Front-end functionality (very important to have fixed test prodcure here i.e. testing all things, which can be done with front-end, this should also be done with all major browsers following a defined priority) 3) Back-end functionality (testing on different platforms and IMAP servers i.e. deleting, moving mails, status unread / read mails ...) I think, if we create a "things to be tested" catalogue, which every _user_ could follow and check things which passed or not passed and do good reporting to developers afterwards, will make live easier for all users (administrators) adn especially for the developers (saving valuable time). If you wish I could assist / support you (the developers) with creating and more important maintaining such a catalogue and even could do some controlling. Let me know your thaughts about this issue. Display When Entering Wrong Password....

When entering the wrong password to login, I get the following error message: ------------------------ IMAP Error in (): Authentication failed (LOGIN): "a001 NO Login failed." ------------------------ The message is displayed above the logo. Is there any way to have this text not appear and simply logged to the appropriate log file? My users would prob not care to see this, and as long as I can see it in a log, I am kosher. I just finished a few more tweaks on the roundcube skin. The folderlist alignment has been slightly altered, and I adjusted the settings and address book screens to better match the rest of the implementation. Just unzip this file into your roundcube root directory and it will overwrite the necessary files. These modifications have been tested in firefox and IE6 and work without error. The only issue that needs to be addressed before these are added to the CVS is the size of the taskbar icons and text. Whoever made those icons, if you can modify them (I realize the text is not part of the image currently, but you should probably change that) so that the text is smaller and under the icon (just "settings" instead of "personal settings" and "contacts" instead of "address book"). This way, there won't be display isses when reading messages on lower resolution screens (currently, menus overlap at 1024x768). This change of wording and word placement will lead to a far more efficient use of space. Rob

New Install question

I just installed Round Cube (v 0.1-20051021) and it doesn't seem to work quite as I expected. I couldn't find any online forums or other FAQ info, so if this is the wrong place to ask such questions please do send me in the correct direction :) Anyway, I'll start with my config in case it matters: Apache version: 2.0.53 PHP Version: 5.0.4 MySQL Version: 4.1.14 IMAP Server (not on the web server): Macallan Mial 4.0.2.2 <http://4.0.2.2> Anyway.. Everything seems to work at first. I see a list of my IMAP folders and messages, as expected. However, when I double-click a subject instead of pulling up the body it just refreshes and does nothing else. I also get odd errors when I try to delete mails. Worth noting is that I have been running Squirl Mail for over a year and am curious if something that client did might have changed something in my IMAP folders. I have not yet created an entirely new user on the mail server to see if it helps, but I will tonight. Thanks for any tips.
