Memory usage for sending messages

I have been experimenting for a while when I was bumping into my 16M memory_limit when just sending a 2M attachment. First I bumped up my memory_limit to 64M to avoid any Errors. I logged the current memory usage using memory_get_usage at several checkpoints. Currently the memory_limit must be set at 3M plus six times the maximum message size. 3M for the base application and enough room to hold the message 6 times. Eek! Example: for a 2M maximum message size the memory_limit must be 15M. 15M = 3M + 6*2M Almost 2 whole copies of this message remain in memory in the "program/steps/mail/sendmail.inc" file. Another copy is stored in memory for the argument as sent to $IMAP->save_message() in "program/ include/rcube_imap.inc". Another copy for the argument passed to iil_C_Append() in "program/lib/imap.inc". And 2 more copies are generated inside that same function. Solutions: 1. destroy the MAIL_MIME object properly in the "program/steps/mail/ sendmail.inc" after it is done with. 2. rework the API to reduce function calls that require the message body. 3. store the message only once globally, and have all functions read it instead of passing the message around. 3. consider fixing the Iloha library to manage memory more efficiently, or using another library. --lonnie

Large Install issues

So I tried roundcube out on a large and in use install. It was competing with SquirrelMail at the same time. But it had its own server. The IlohaMail backend is too slow to consider for the site (700k+ emails) and made working with RC unbearable. I'm not sure I have the time to convert the backend to what SquirrelMail uses, but depending on how the various Courier-IMAP issues get worked out, I may make a second try at it. Solution for Courier-IMAP unread mail bug

Hi, Here's a bug fix for Courier-IMAP 4.x and reading unread mail. [Background] New mails need to be flagged as Seen after it's opened. The IMAP command STORE $UID +Flags (\$flag) is issued for this. [Problem] New mail cannot opened when using Courier-IMAP. No page is rendered. [Solution] Tcpdump reveals the following: Client -> Server: flg STORE 139 +Flags (\Seen) Server -> Client: * 139 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen)) Server -> Client: flg OK STORE completed. However, the 'flg' part is not stripped when the input is sent to ParseResult to valid the server's response code (OK, BAD etc). If we strip 'flg' before validating the response, we get the proper input. File: program/lib/imap.inc:1455 Old code: }while (!iil_StartsWith($line, "flg")); if (iil_ParseResult($line) == 0){ File: program/lib/imap.inc:1455 New code: }while (!iil_StartsWith($line, "flg")); $line = str_replace('flg','',$line); if (iil_ParseResult($line) == 0){ This patch shouldn't affect other IMAP-servers. Core problem is that errors in imap.inc need to be logged using error_log for example or a custom error handler. Otherwise a function returns -1 and the exception is handled. Best regards, Jasper

I can log into roundcube fine. I see my folders on the left and the messages just fine, but when I double click on a message I get the following error. Hi there, is anyone already trying to get postgres fixes which don't break support for other DBs? I'm currently trying to fix every problem step by step but maybe someone has already fixed it? According to sf.net cvs web there are no interesting checkins since 0.1-20051007 at least not regarding postgres. Inbox shows empty after viewing email or other folders?

I've installed the 102105 version, seems to work really well otherwise, but when I go to another folder or read an email, my Inbox shows as empty. Nothing except logging out and back in seems to fix it. New Window for links inside of Mails?

Hi all, something regarding usability: Do you like it when clicking on a link inside a webpage (an eMail in our case) opens a new WebBroser Window? I really hate this in the meantime. If there's a link inside a mail RoundCube makes it clickable but it opens in a new Window. I would appreciate if this wasn't the case - let the user decide! Maybe it could even be made configurable. Priorities

So I figured out the problem. I set up my email server using the qmailrocks.com default setup. So my SMTP server does require authentication, except for when it's coming from the local IP, since apache and qmail reside on the same box. So... I had to put my postmaster@<emailaddress>.com in the username, and left the password blank. That worked. Missing date header, messages never purged

Hello, I discovered two small problems in RoundCube (latest release, v0.1-20051021): First, it seems RoundCube doesn't write the date header to sent emails. Some mailserver add the header themself but generally that's a job the MUA should do. Second, if you delete a mail they get marked as deleted on the IMAP directory but they never get purged. It seems RoundCube uses the total message count for displaying how many messages are in a folder. Therewith the counter are incorrect too. I use a local cyrus IMAP server. Nevertheless I really like RoundCube, it's look and feel is very good for a webmail application! I'm not subscribed to the list, if you've additional questions please send them directly to me. Special chars in app.js and index.inc

Hey all, New to the list and Round Cube. Great job btw! With the latest download I saw some strange chars to the left of the Round Cube logo so I went looking. The chars are : 'ï»¿' In the following 2 files there are extra chars befor <?php program/js/app.js program/localization/index.inc You can't see them unless you do a 'vi -b program/localization/index.inc'. - Mike

Major issue with deleting messages

Greetings, I'm running Courier 4.0.x and PHP 5.0.4 on Apache 2.0.53 with both the latest CVS and 20051021 (at least, I tried this on both but left it on CVS). Since upgrading to 20051021 I've been experiencing many problems with deleting messages, both permanently from the trash, and by moving them from, say, my Junk mail folder to the Trash. While the message will appear to be deleted, the unread count does not change. And, when I browse into that folder on my server (i.e. username/Maildir/.Trash/cur) the messages are still listed, but they do not show up in Roundcube When I log into my mail with Squirrelmail I can see the messages and then delete them. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't have this issue when moving items from my Inbox to another folder... Best Regards, Dave

BUG: Mailbox list view

After applying Justin's patch, which solved the problem with list not showing mails anymore, I've realized another problem. Now I am able to browse throught the pages again (1-40, 41-80, etc), but when I am one the second page (or any other one than the first) and click on message to read it and want to go back by clicking the back arrow I am always directed to the first listing page (1-40) and have to browse again to the right page. Am I wrong, or did this work in build 20051007 ? /Rob

Login Failed - Resource id #25

I saw in the archives that others where having this same problem. Was there a solution posted? Using Roundcube 20051021 build, dovecot .99 I'm able to telnet into dovecot and login without issue. When I attempt to login through RoundCube I get: Login Failed * CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SORT THREAD=REFERENCES MULTIAPPEND UNSELECT LITERAL+ IDLE CHILDREN LISTEXT LIST-SUBSCRIBED NAMESPACE AUTH=PLAIN cp01 OK Capability completed. Tried PLAIN: Resource id #25 My dovecot log shows a successful login when I am receiving this error from RoundCube. On the other hand, this is a brand new DoveCot install and I have never used IMAP with my mail server. I wonder if the other people who were receiving this error where able to resolve it? Hello Sven, I think this might be solved by adding "index.php" within your IIS server configuration. You can define what IIS will take as default index (default: default.htm) and deliver to the user. You can add "index.php" by going to the properties screen of your "Default Website" (or for you in german: "Standard Website") and adding "index.php" under Directory. Hope this solves this issue for you. Hello. I've written a very small patch that adds the following feature: * when a new user logs in for the first time and a new user is created in the DB, the default language for this user is now written correctly.Thevalue of the default language is taken from $CONFIG['locale_string'] (the "locale_string" value of the main configuration file) The file patched is: * /program/include/main.inc the function patched are: * rcmail_create_user * rcmail_create_user I've posted the patch on the sourceforge.net <http://sourceforge.net> patch tracker too. Problem with DB connection in 0.1-20051021

Hello Folks I tryed first to update from the 0.1-20051007 to 0.1-20051021 it resulted an error 500 first. I fixed this problem due deleting the .htaccess file, because my server disallow some commands over .htaccess files... Today i deleted the wole stuff and setup new. I Fixed the 500 Server Error by editing the main .htaccess file --snip oldfile- php_flag display_errors On php_value session.gc_maxlifetime 21600 php_value session.gc_divisor 500 php_value upload_max_filesize 2m <FilesMatch "(\.inc|\~)$|^_"> Order allow,deny Deny from all </FilesMatch> Order deny,allow Allow from all --/snip oldfile-- --snip newfile-- <FilesMatch "(\.inc|\~)$|^_"> Order allow,deny Deny from all </FilesMatch> Order deny,allow Allow from all --/snip newfile-- Now i'm stuck by this error... Not saving settings

I've got a fresh install of 0.1-20051021 running. So far everything seems to be going great (with the exception of the include_path error in index.php) except that each time I Logout and Log back in I loose everything that (I assume) is in the database. This includes contacts, settings & identies. I didn't see anyone else post about this since yesterday - so is anyone else having a similar problem? Thanks, Kevin Kelley

Special Characters in Swedish

I wonder if it is I who are missing out on something. For some reason when I send a mail with special swedish characters, like åäö, they wont show in Roundcube(If im sending it through roundcube that is). Here's what I noticed: Mailing from roundcube too myself and friends: Using åäö in subject will work in roundcube, but they wont show in another client. Using it in the message body won't work anywhere. Mailing form another client too myself and friends reading it: Reading it with roundcube will work. Reading it in another client will work. I myself are not sure why, but i've atleast tested it from Windows and Linux, using IE and FF atleast. /Alexander Rydekull

imap_root Question

Hi all, I have RoundCube installed and working but am having a small problem with imap_root. I keep my mail folders in my home directory under a subdirectory called mail, and I'm using UW-IMAP. My INBOX is in /var/spool/mail/ I have set the imap_root to "mail" and it mostly works fine. My folders all show up properly in the list and it only shows the ones from my mail directory. The problem is that if I click the INBOX folder I get no messages. When I first log in the messages from my inbox show on the right side but if I click the folder it never shows again. Additionally the Sent folder works fine but the Trash folder doesn't. Trash shows (34) new messages, which is correct but if I click the folder I get a blank list. All other "normal" folders work just fine. Any ideas? Thanks, Jason von Nieda

Minor bug in 0.1-20051021 (newest release)

I noticed a minor bug in today's release. Clicking on the Inbox folder (in the folder list to the left) in the main mail screen, causes no messages to be shown. For example click on the sent folder, then click back on the inbox and nothing will be shown. The only way to restore the inbox is to click on the address book or settings, then back on the email button on the upper toolbar. I can reproduce this bug in Firefox 1.07 and Opera 8.5. Empty the trash box?

Hello! This is just a small request or question :). Is there an option to emty the trash? Deleted mails go there but how do I delete them from the trash? Also is that on the todo list to add an automatic mail sorting, like I want mails comming from this list to go into a particular directory in my mail folders. Just like squirrelmail messages filter option. And there is such a thing in Horde.

CSS issue with message display

One step further: After changing the COMM_PATH initialisation in index.php as follows I am able to use the adressbook, adjust the personal settings, use the logout and even compose a message. $COMM_PATH = sprintf('index.php?_auth=%s&_task=%s', $sess_auth, $_task); The missing problems left are: - Messages cannot be opened using the double click, answered using the corresponding button or forwarded. i.e. it only tries to load for a long, long time and finishs with " Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 120 seconds exceeded in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\mail\program\lib\imap.inc on line 104 ". I think that there might be a problem for the IMAP client to read the message. - In the top of the message list a PHP warning shows up: Warning: date() [function.date]: Windows does not support dates prior to midnight (00:00:00), January 1, 1970 in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\mail\program\include\main.inc on line 955 Do you sse a chance to fix these two problems as well as the one with the self-referencing? Bug - DST Not Applied

Greetings, This bug existed in the previous builds as well. I am in the PST timezone (-8) and am currently in daylight savings time. As far as I can tell, there is no option to support this in RoundCube, so I am an hour behind until the next DST time change. Dave

Bug - Emptying Trash on Courier 4.0.x

Greetings, I just loaded the new release and found the following bug: Items are transferred to the trash without issue. But, if you open the trash and either select a message and delete it, or open the message and delete it, while the message disappears from view, it is not truly deleted. For a while I was getting a "Error - could not move message" (I can't remember the exact verbage... I can't even reproduce it any more) the problem disappeared after I emptied the trash via Squirrelmail. Currently though, while the message disappears from the Trash and the Trash unread count is reset, if I look on the server I can see it in "MailDir/.Trash/cur". The message also shows when I view the Trash folder in Squirrelmail. If I move another item to the trash, the new item is listed, but the old is not and the unread count bumps up to 2. I am running an upgraded version of 1007. Dave
