Ok, so our company hosts several domains on one server. When implementing a software such as roundcube, we like to have one central install that eases the pains fo configuring and maintaining. Each domain hosted simply references the central install via sym-links. Anyways, whether that makes sense or not, I wanted to setup a way that the login screen would figure out the mail server domain name without me having to manually set it in a config file or the user inputting it at each login. So, I basically switched out line 33 of main.inc.php with this line: $rcmail_config['default_host'] = 'mail.' . '' . str_replace("www.", "", $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']); Basically, it takes the address in the address bar, removes the "www." and adds "mail." to the beginning of the domain name. Ex) www.yourname.com to yourname.com to mail.yourname.com I am sure this all seems very basic and straight forward to the more seasoned programmer, but I was excited about getting it to work. 20051007 not logging in

Greetings! I apologize in advance if this has been discussed on the list already, there are no archives to check with and I just joined. I have installed roundcube and tried using it to access 2 different imap-ssl servers (ssl only, port 993) and neither of them would log in. The roundcube client would sit at the login prompt and eventually the browser would timeout. I tried this on a different web server and got the same results. Both web servers are Gentoo Linux with php 4.4.0. There is nothing in the logs (web logs or roundcube logs) and the imap servers do not even see the initial connection. Any thoughts? I just tried it with IE6.. same result... Deleted messages will reappear if you click on Inbox for example. untarring into versioned directory name

I have a request for future versions of roundcube. Can you make the distribution files untar into a directory with the version name in it. I think it would be beneficial to most people to be able to do this: cd /var/www/your/document/root tar zxvf roundcube_webmail_version#.tar.gz and have it untar to the directory 'roundcubemail_version#' instead of just untarring to 'roundcubemail'. That way it can be untarred in the same parent directory without having to move the old directory out of the way or clobbering old files. -- Mark S. CVS HEAD problem with folder list display when reading messages

IMAP root?

Hi all, just downloaded Round Cube and it looks great. I've been playing with it for an hour or so. I seem to be having a problem using the imap root setting though. I have tried setting the imap root to 'mail', '/mail', 'mail/' and '/mail/' and none seem to work. The only one that really does anything is 'mail' and that causes folders in users' home directories to be created as mailSent, mailINBOX and so on. I store all of my mail folders in my home directory under mail/ and I'd like to not change it. I currently use Thunderbird as my mail client and in it's imap root I have specified 'mail' which works fine with my server. I am running the latest version of UW-IMAP. Any clues? Cyrus Sieve interface?

Hi, (I'm not subscribed to the mailing list yet, please Cc me when replying; thank you!) Based on the screenshots, Roundcube is excellent. I used IMP and Squirrelmail before, but I have to admit that they're not nearly comparable with Gmail or other modern webmails. Roundcube, though, seems to keep up with the best in the industry. It's like the iPod - it's not like there aren't any other similar products out there that are functional and stable, but this one is the only one whose interface actually makes sense from a usability perspective. ;-) Kudos! One issue that I'd like to discuss: I am using Cyrus IMAPd as a backend because it provides convenient and powerful server-side email filtering with Sieve (that is, I configure the filters on the server and then the messages are processed, deleted, sorted into folders, etc. automatically, server-side, regardless of what IMAP client I'm using - which is totally awesome). Both IMP and Squirrelmail provide nice integrated interfaces to manage the Sieve filters. E.g., see Avelsieve, which is the Squirrelmail Sieve plugin: http://email.uoa.gr/projects/squirrelmail/avelsieve.php To me, Sieve filtering is what makes or breaks the deal. I would start to use Roundcube tomorrow if it had a Sieve interface. But if it lacks Sieve... well, I guess I won't use it "for real" because I would have a hard time setting up new filters or modifying existing ones, which is critical when you have more than, like, a dozen folders or so. Especially when subscribed to high-volume mailing lists (lkml, php-dev, etc.), automatically filtering messages into folders is critical and without server-side filtering it's impossible to use multiple IMAP clients (one could still get away with using just one single client and perform filtering client-side, but that pretty much precludes all the advantages of IMAP). So... Is there any Sieve interface yet in Roundcube? If not, are there any plans to create one? If there are plans, what's the timeline? Login Alias / Miltiple Accounts

I'm new to the mailing list/project, so please forgive me if this has been discussed. I could not find any FAQ or archives of the list to search through. Two questions: 1) Is there way to set a login alias so users can log in via that alias instead of a longer login name. For example: my account name on my mail server is "kurt(a)ernstsen.net" but I would like to log in using the username "kurt". I have seen other mail clients that allow you to set this alias within the user preferences. Any way to do this in RoundCube? 2) I would like to be able to log into account A see messages from both account A and account B, in separate folders of course. I noticed RoundCube has the "Identities" but from what I saw that was different identities for sending mail only, not retrieving and reading mail from the different accounts. New storage for user preferences

Attached is a patch that stores user preferences in a table called user_preferences, instead of an associative, serialized array.. - main.inc has 2 new functions: rcmail_get_userprefs() and rcmail_save_userpref() - steps/settings/save_prefs.inc: using the rcmail_save_userpref() function (still saving using serializing..) - added table structure for MySQL (mysql.initial.sql) Applying patch: go into roundcubemail (0.1-20051007 I used), patch - p1 < roundcubemail-userprefs.patch Hope this helps a bit :) Any comments are welcome ofcourse. [Patch] Handle IMAP root when imap_root == inbox

When setting an IMAP root to INBOX, it skips over the inbox. I'm not sure how common that root is, but I know it's on my box. Here is the patch. Also, are there archives of the list? Duplicate Entries in database

Hi! I'm trying to use RoundCube, but I have a problem: every time a user log in and modify an option (language, identities...), in the database appear a new entry for him. In this way I have duplicate entries for every user, and the saved options are not used the next time the user log in, because he is took back to the first entry (the one with no options set). I think that modifying the db using the complete email address (user(a)domain.tld) as user_id could solve the problem... Developers and users, a *short* update this time. As a result of feedback I got from my last message, I've been doing some development work on the mailing list software used to run the RoundCube mailing lists. This has resulted in 3 new features. To access these features, you need to send an e-mail to: dev+options(a)lists.roundcube.net (put the word options in the subject and in the message body to please SpamAssassin). The list will then reply with a link to your subscriber options page. On this page you can: - Enable of disable "Set Reply-To": When this is set, messages sent to the list *that does not already have a Reply-To: header* will have a Reply-To: header listing dev(a)lists.roundcube.net added. - Enable or disable "Tag Subject": When this is enabled, messages from the list will have a tag added to the Subject: field. Some people like to use this to automatically sort mailing list messages. This options will add the tag for all subscribers with this option enabled and remove it for subscribers who has it disabled. - Enable of disable "Suspend Mailing": When suspend mail is enabled, the subscribed address will not receive list messages. Use this if you want to temporarily unsubscribe (like when going on vacation), or if you want to be able to post from more then one e-mail address without having your messages held up by moderation. Just subscribe all the addresses you send mail from, and set all but one to "Suspend Mailing". Bob

Feature/Bug with the preview patch

When I preview a message it does not show the images in emails and there is no "show images" button. When I open a message I can choose to show those images. I think this should be a preference setting as well. That way, if someone doesn't want images blocked by default they can switch it off. - Jeff

Roundcube: First impressions + notes

In a word - superb. Installation was so easy, and thus far it has functioned perfectly. One small thing - my timezone was missing (Canada/Newfoundland, GMT -2.5). I added it to the preferences list and then had to modify func.inc to remove the (int) so that the half-hour timezone would save correctly in the preferences. I think there may be one or two other half-hour timezones out there.... One missing feature which I use a lot is 'Reply all'. I don't see it in the list of planned features (http://www.roundcube.net/?p=about). Maybe it could be considered? Thanks again for this lovely webmail app. Doug Robbins

Hey, I got the Styles into the User Prefrences Area Where I think it's better than on the Front / Mail page... Macross..... Think you could give us more steps on getting the styles working. I did everything you posted and Put up mail_2.css etc... It doesn't really change or do anything... Just refreshes the page... Any idea?? :) Cheers! Jason

Hi We've used SquirrelMail for a while to give us remote access to our IMAP server and have been looking for something more modern, then I noticed RoundCube and decided to give it a spin ... I like it :-) We generally prefer postgres over mysql so I configured it to use pgsql:// in the db.inc.php file, I have found quite a few "niggles" with SQL which presumably works in mysql but doesn't in postgres Had to add a unix_timestamp() function Had to add default empty string values to columns in several tables which have not-null constraints but do not receive values from insert statements Had to change the quoting around several field names from `field` to \"field\" in the php pages Had to change a few "LIMIT x,y" clauses into "OFFSET x LIMIT y" syntax Had to reverse the order of deletes at logout from the cache and session tables to satisfy foreign key constraint I'm not sure if the changes I've made will break mysql/sqlite (and therefore need be made conditional on the database schema) Have these type of fixes already been done in the current CVS or should I try to make a patch and submit it?

Long time to view messages

Hello, I have installed RoundCube 0.1-20051007 on my server (php 4.3.10, mysql 4.0.23a, apache 1.3.33) to give it a try and it takes a very very very long time to view messages (about 5 minutes). The server has a bandwith and processing power to spare, SquirrelMail is quite responsive. I've tried both with caching on and off on different computers and different browsers (firefox 1.0.7 & ie6). session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/httpd/vhosts/roundcubetest/httpdocs/webmail/program/lib/DB.php:1384) in /home/httpd/vhosts/roundcubetest/httpdocs/webmail/program/include/main.inc on line 66 Using CVS Build. Looks to me like main.inc is trying to resend the session id. All browsers state Browser does not accept cookies. (if line 66 is commented out no errors) but still cookie issue. Any suggestions? I think Roundcubemail really promise but: There are still some things that i consider to be bugs: to read the new e-mails i have to first mark them as read with the specification that sometimes it works but only for the first time after authentification and only for the first e-mail i open. I would also want like the posibility to delete attachements if added by mistache from the e-mail being composed and not leavinng the e-mail i compose and having only the oportunity to start a new message if i added some attachements that i do not want after all to send...

Hi, I noticed you guys are using PEAR::DB. Looking at rcube_db.inc there is already a bit of conditional code for databases (although I am not sure if you really need the special connect treatment for sqlite). However your lastinsertid handling is for example integrated in MDB2 via the lastInsertID() method (and yes it will work on pgsql as you expect). Furthermore MDB2 can also handle table creation and altering. Through MDB2_Schema it can even do so in a single xml schema file that can automatically determine what create, drop and alter statements are needed which it can then execute or you can extract into an SQL file. As for your handling of NOW(). Currently MDB2 handles this through MDB2_Date. However there have always been plans to add a module that will generate the necessary SQL to make SQL functions portable. Another cool thing I have done for my framework when serializing strings into the database is to add a new abstract datatype to MDB2 which means that MDB2 automatically handles serializing and unserializing for me. Overall you will notice that MDB2 has much more detailed support for datatypes. Hi, in your SQL create statement for mysql you set the preference column to be NOT NULL, yet in rcmail_create_user() you do not set a value and therefore the query fails. regards, Lukas

It seems that the other set is not going to work so don't use it... Just simply open up your common.css sheet and find these lines body { margin: 8px; background-color: #F2F2F2; /* #EBEBEB; */ color: #000000; } Then Replace these with the color of outlook blue which is like #3768BC for Outlook Blue Or #9AAC70 for Outlook Olive Green which I used in all of the # Fields and it worked... That section should be at the very top of common.css then you need to go to the footer section and put the same #s into there which should be a little down from the body. Looks just like this.. Hey Here's a quick fix for the RoundCube Mail package, simply drop / overwrite these common.css sheets into the default skin pack. For many people who have shared hosting, they are required to login with their full email addresses. Personally, I find this irritating. Thus...a very small bit of code to allow people to login both with or without their full address. Hi! I like what you have done so far - look slike a really cool project! I have just installed the latest build. Not sure how you are handling bug reports, but I have found that using the php mail function results in a bad email formation (Probably because I run qmail) - I'll investigate futher and produce a better bug report of patch. I have a patch got a small for SMTP. RoundCube developers and users, just thought I'd post a bit of mailing list administrative information and short status update on Trac/Wiki/Archive/Subversion matters. * When posting to the RoundCube Dev list, please make sure you do so from the address with which you are subscribed. All messages from non subscribers are held for moderation, so when you post from another address it increases the moderators workload (Thomas and me) and it delays your message. If you do post from another address by accident, please don't repost from the correct address. This will most likely lead to your message being posted to the list twice. Sometimes in the next few two weeks I'll probably ask one or two of you to help with the moderation (I'll do so in a private e-mail). The moderation is in place only to keep the list from redistributing any spam that will inevitably be sent to it's submission address. *All* non-spam messages should be approved by the moderators. * Some of you have over eager anti-spam filters in place on the addresses subscribed to the list and you are rejecting legitimate list traffic. If it's at all possible, please make sure you white list e-mail from 195.159.29.202/maildialog.com. In cases where I see excessive rejects for a particularly stupid reason, I'll just unsubscribe the offending address to keep my workload at an acceptable level. * Some of you have asked that we include a Reply-To: header in messages distributed to the list. I could go on at length about why this is not a good idea, but luckily Chip Rosenthal has already done so. Anyone interested should read his excellent essay: "Reply-To" Munging Considered Harmful http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html * A few words om mailing list etiquette: When replying to the list, please make sure to remove any irrelevant quoted text before sending. In the last few days I've seen some horrible examples of messages with just a few words of original content, followed by several kb of quoted text. Please show some consideration and spend the 2 seconds needed to trim your quotes. Another matter of mailing list etiquette is top-post reply vs. in-line reply. This is a matter of some debate, and not something that should be discussed here. I'll just ask that you all take a look at the excellent Wikipedia article on the subject and form your own opinion on the matter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-posting I'll also note that quite a few people (myself included) subscribe to more mailing lists then they have time to read. For such people, one factor in deciding to read or skip your reply may be if it's top-posted or in-line (again, myself included). * Redistribution delays: The mail server hosting the mailing list got a bit of a surprise after the Slashdot "incident", and have been experiencing some redistribution delays. I've seen delays as high as 30 minutes, but it looks like more then 97% of all traffic is delivered within 5 minutes. This has to do with the Exim install not being optimized for mailing list deliveries. I'll keep an eye on this over the next few day. * I've had reports of mailing list subscribers experiencing probeing looking for RoundCube installs after posting to the list. Please keep an eye out for this. RoundCube is not production ready, and it's entirely possible there may be some exploitable security holes in it (see below). The report I got saw probes from 70.177.39.72, so if you could all check your logs for this IP. If you find something, please e-mail *me*, not the list, and I'll coordinate the investigation. Even if you don't have any probes from that address, please keep en eye out for unusual activity, especially if you've posted identifying details to the mailing list. * Security in RoundCube: There's been talk about letting users select the IMAP server to connect to (via select boxes, input boxes, from the domain in the URL and others). If this is combined with a RoundCube configured to relay outgoing e-mail via a hardcoded local SMTP relay you have an exploitable setup, and will probably have problems sooner or later. Please keep this in mind! * Status of Trac/Wiki/Archive/Subversion: All the software for the new web site (Trac with wiki, MHonArc mailing list archive and Subversion) has been set up. What remains is a bit of work on the layout, and some porting of information from the old site. I'm currently working with Thomas on the former, but could use some help on the later. So if you feel like helping out with porting some information into the wiki, send me a private e-mail and I'll get back to you. I also think it's about time someone started working on a FAQ, so if you have a few hours to spare, good English communication skills, a rough understanding of how RoundCube works, and the most common problems experienced by it's users, drop me en e-mail and I'll get you advanced access to the new wiki so you can get started. low priority multiple select changes

Hi all, this is a nit in comparisson to much of the work that needs to be done, but 2 things: 1) it is currently possible to select multiple items using the <shift> key, it has always been my understanding that this is a function more commonly accessed with the <ctrl> key - is there a technical limitation on this, or am I just windows-centric? (..begins to smash head against wall..) 2) is it possible to select an entire range of messages using <ctrl>+<shift> - this would be useful for sorting messages that all go in the same folder (e.g. the 40+ messages a day from this listserv) finally, if nobody is opposed to this (this doesn't seem like a plugin to me), I can tackle it with my oh-so-rusty hack javascript skilz. also, thinking about it - this might be skinnable behavior, once the structure was in place. thoughts? j.

I'm new to both roundcube and SQL. I'm trying to get roundcube to work with a sqlite database, but when I try to login I get the following errors: DB Error in /home/www/html/roundcubemail/program/include/rcube_db.inc (63): DB Error: no database selected Fatal error: Call to undefined function: query() in /home/www/html/roundcubemail/program/include/rcube_db.inc on line 119 My guess is that I've configured db.inc.php incorrectly. Do more detailed installation instructions (with examples, preferably) exist somewhere? I have been unable to find any helpful documentation for newbies. The installation instructions are a nice general outline, but more details would be really helpful. Thanks. H.S.
