Thanks for pointing this out! I would never have realized it wasn't doing a damn thing (my server accepts both kinds of logins). Now I need to figure out how to connect via SSL as well.

That doesn't actually use ssl. I have my machine configured to only allow ssl access, and specifying yourserver:993 gives me the error "unable to connect to yourserver at port 143".
