I'm saying this that for most of daily users webmail isn't just a temporary solution, they use it to work
replace "daily users" with home / private usage and many of them setup their roundcube on a cheap to free, small webspace at their own and would switch to whatever other solution if this is no longer possible or just stay at a unsupported, outdated version if roundcube written in PHP would be abondened
for business users Outlook, Apple Mail, iPhone and Android with a native client is the typical usecase and webmail the exception
