It sounds like other people are having the same problem with INBOX, in that the client is requesting imap_root/INBOX instead of INBOX. IMAP reserves the name INBOX to mean "the user's system inbox, wherever that is" and it should not be prepended with the imap_root.
I haven't had any problems with UW-IMAP yet. In fact, it wasn't until today's release that I could get it to work at all with my IMAP server. I think the SSL fix was the crucial component. Muchas gracias!
