hey thomas,

We would certainly appreciate a plugin-based solution for PGP support. Due lack of time we didn't start to code one ourselves but you'll get any support you need. I think some more plugin-hooks are required to make this work since encrypted message parts are currently just ignored.
a first step would be to add a wiki page (sth like wiki:PluginRepository/Encryption) and make this wiki page writeable to all users. from what i can see, editing pages is open to everyone, while creating new pages is restricted to some users.
One suggestion for the implementation: maybe add some abstraction layer to the backend in order to have alternatives to PECL gnupg (e.g. simple shell commands to gpg). See the password plugin for comparison.
yes, i guess that would make sense. but i'm not sure about a common codebase for all encryption methods. i didn't use s/mime etc. yet, but i guess that their key management is too different from gnupg to write an abstract layer. but maybe others who have more experiences with s/mime could comment on that.
greetings, jonas
