There is a separation of "required" and "optional" and socket support
is in the required portion.

This is also my fault. I had in mind that the socket expension is required for fsockopen() which is used for IMAP, Spellchecker, etc. but this is part of the standard installation.

We can remove the check for sockets from the installer because it is not even necessary for SSL connections.
