At the San Pablo CEU University (Spain), we move to roundcube 0.3 in september 09, before we have and old squirrelmail.
Number of users: 15.000+
The server architecture is based on a 2 frontend active-pasive apache2 with MySQL 5 replication master-slave and 2 backend, active-pasive with postfix (2.3.3) and dovecot (1.2.6) authenticated to a Microsoft AD.
Our students are very happy with the change and its stability. Personally i am really enthusiastic with the plugin architecture and hope to see in time, some calendar and task plugins.
The plugins the we use are contextmenu and serverinfo, and testing more in the test enviroment.

Hello,
We've been offering Roundcube to everyone at the University of Michigan for a bit over a year.
Number of users (max): 70,013 This is the number of preference sets in the database. We have more IMAP accounts, but they have not yet chosen to visit our Roundcube install.
Average of concurrent users: 500 to 2000 The number is highly variable based on time of day and our academic calendar. A snapshot from this morning shows: Active in the last hour: 2715 Active in the last 5 minutes: 1879 Active in the last minute: 1096 (we've got a plugin which gives stats like these that we're still preparing to share)
Number of hosts serving Roundcube: 19 We are using round-robin DNS. These machines are separate from our IMAP servers and serve Horde/IMP also.
Database backend software: MySQL 5
IMAP backend software: Cyrus and ImapProxy We use a proxy with unlimited credentials to allow authentication to be performed by CoSign (http://weblogin.org/)
Other webmail software which is offered as alternative: We continue to run Horde/IMP mail as we have for many years. Our Horde/IMP install has more regular users than our Roundcube. We differentiate our offerings by saying Roundcube is our modern, easy-to-use webmail and Horde/IMP is our feature-rich webmail. There are no plans to stop offering IMP.
Some interesting, un-shared modifications have been:
- All folder searching and a new search interface
- A checkbox column
- Horde Addressbook read/write
- Non-scrolling column headers
- A new skin (still working to make it 3.1 compatible)
- Forwarding full headers
- Forced client refresh on upgrade
- CoSign authentication
We're working on sharing these changes and more. We've had between 2 and 5 developers working on RC part time for the last year.
We would be happy to share more about our experiences with Roundcube if it would be helpful to anyone. If you couldn't tell from this message, I could go on for hours :)
