Thanks for the hint. And does CKeditor provide a similar feature set as TinyMCE? I guess downgrading the formatting abilities would cause another load of user support requests...

Just a quick browse seems to suggest CKeditor is more advanced than TinyMCE. It even supports inline editing. Maybe cool for autoreply templates. It has hundreds of plugins, is themeable, etc.
Indeed this looks like a valid replacement for TinyMCE. The only thing missing is the drag & drop / copy & paste inserting of images which are then saved as data: urls. This is currently the only way how to get images into signatures in Roundcube and kind of a show stopper. But maybe there's a plugin for that which I just didn't find.
