I voted on the Google+ page (Larry default, search box RIGHT) but I'm wondering why the anti-Larry and search box LEFT people feel the way they do. Last I heard the rationale for keeping the current skin as default in 0.8 was Larry requires some big/popular plugins be updated for the new skin and they haven't been yet (I know I haven't done my little CAS login plugin for Larry yet…) Were there other reasons?
Having the search box LEFT, above the folder list to me gives the impression that you will use that box to filter your folder list. If it was to the right of the filter dropdown above the message list I think that might make more sense, but I still think it's better to have the "action" buttons on the left. This is where clickmaps/pointer heatmaps would come in handy - if users spend a lot of time clicking between folders and select messages by clicking on the left side of the row for that message then I think would make sense to have your primary "action" controls as close to that area of pointer activity as possible. (Anecdotally, I believe this is the case.)
