The only way to see the image is to Forward the mail. Which I discovered by accident, but when in the 'forward' window, the image is displayed. This also doesn't work with 'reply'.

This sounds vaguely familiar, I think it's a bug that was squashed some time ago. What version Roundcube are you using?
