Do you see anything in the error logs? Activate the logging of php errors in the .htaccess file if you havent already.
Did you upgrade (replaced files) or is it a new install?

Hi Jess,
Can't confirm this. I just tested this on a newly installed (yesterday) 0.7-stable.
Worked fine with png, jpg and jpeg extensions.
Maybe your web server is missing some mime type declarations?
