I am a user of Roundcube and have the SVN version 2999. Every once in a while I get an email message where the entire message body will not show up in Roundcube. I can open the email in a desktop mail viewer (Thunderbird) and see the mail just fine. I currently have one of these messages in my Inbox. Is there a place to forward or bounce these emails so that they can be examined to see why they do not show up properly? I am not sure how best to report this.
Thanks! Keith

This may be a problem with the messages, and not RC.
If a message has only a HTML part and no plain text part, then the
message may appear to be empty in RC. If you have configured TB to
show HTML in messages, then the " problem " messages will appear to
have content.
If you come across one of the " blank " messages, I recommend looking
to see if there is a HTML part to it.
Look for the " HTML Message " with a paper clip icon.
Or click the " view source " button to see the guts of the message.

You appear to be correct with the specific message that I have in my email right now. There is only an HTML portion to the email. I understand that it is not really RoundCube's fault that the email is not multi-part, but shouldn't RC try to display the email instead of putting up a blank page with no way to view the message at all? If you assumed HTML at that point and at least printed the contents to the preview pane at least you would be able to see some usable information from the email. Maybe the issue is more complex than that, but some portion of the message would be better than none to me.
I guess the only way around this is to view these messages in another mail client, right?
Thanks for the information.

I got something right today. Yay for me.

There is a " Display HTML " in the " DIsplaying Messages " pane of "
Personal Preferences " that may do what you want.
Of course I belong to that subversive faction of the Internet that
believes HTML e-mail messages are the work of the Devil, so . . .

I hear you. I prefer plain text when sending out any mail, but I have relented when receiving mail and don't mind HTML mail (when I can read it, of course!).
I looked at that "Display HTML" setting and it was already set. Interesting thing is when I deselect it, I get text for the message that is in question. When I have the Display HTML option on there is only blank space. Ugh...other HTML messages work, so I am sure it is just something going on with this and the few that do this in RC. Since they show up in Thunderbird it would be nice that they do the same in RC, but maybe it is not meant to be.

Open a ticket in bugtracker with attached message source. Developers will test the message precissely. Sometimes it is an IMAP server issue. Rouncube relies on BODYSTRUCTURE returned from a server. If server responses with wrong structure, Roundcube is unable to display the message. Other clients (e.g.Thunderbird) are parsing such messages in other way. We're currently not doing this.
I have an issue similar or related to this.
I get my mail lists as digest ( I know, I'm an oddball )
Many mailing lists are using mailman, and mailman constructs the
digest messages.
mailman has a bug in how it constructs plain-text digests, it puts
UTF-8 as the character encoding in the header, but then simply jams
each message into the digest without doing a character conversion to
UTF-8. You end up with one big message with different pieces using
different character encodings. For many lists this isn't an issue,
however for some where there are many international contributors,
this gobble-dee-gook can make MUAs have a massive hissy fit
displaying the digest message.
My workaround is to subscribe to some lists via the HTML Digest.
Lately, in an older version of RC, some messages in the digest show
the header of the message, but the body of the message empty, unless
you inspect the message source. Most of the messages that exhibit
this problem originate from an iPhone.
I am beginning testing of RC 0.3 to see if it handles these seemingly
body-less messages better.
My problem is that RC 0.3 doesn't show the individual headers in the
digest like my older RC does.
I have to find some time to ferret that issue out first.

My thinking on this is that if a message only has a plain text part
or only has an HTML part, TB will display the part that is there no
matter what the preference setting is. RC adheres strictly to your
personal preference, and only displays the part you have chosen, even
if that part is empty.
For those messages that only have a HTML part, and no plain text
part, if your preference is set to display only plain text ( "
Display HTML " unchecked ), do you get a clickable link to the HTML
part in the header ? If you click that, does it open a new window
with the HTML part displayed ?
Maybe there needs to be a similar link to the plain text part when "
Display HTML " is checked, so you can get to some content if the HTML
part is empty but the plain text part contains content. Right now you
can get to the HTML part when viewing plain text, but if you are
viewing HTML you can't get to the plain text part.

I tried this out and there was no link in the header to view the HTML portion of the message. The idea of that kind of solution would certainly be better than what we have right now.
As A.L.E.C. suggested, I have created a ticket in the bug system and it is located here:
