Just had this issue:
Initiated a search for messages across all folders with "df.eu" in the "To" header. The search result returned all messages with "df.eu" in the "From" header instead?!
Apparently this is an issue if searching across all folders only.

Just wanted to mention the issue below again, as there was no response yet.
Just did a search for a specific string in the "From" AND the "To" header across all folders, but only the messages with the string in the "From" header have been returned.
Is nobody else than me using this function, or am I the only one realizing this issue...?

Furthermore, I just realized that a search across all folders does not search across all folders.
If a more in-depth description is required, please let me know.

Works for me. So, we need more info. imap_debug for example should give you precise answers.

Ok, I'll be sending more info as soon as I find the time. In the meantime, what about this one (this is the message that I sent right before the one you replied to):

There's indeed something wrong with (re)setting search columns on search scope change. When you change the scope you don't see that fields/headers selection changes, but if you close the search menu and open it again you'll see that different fields are selected (these which are used for searching).

Hmm, not sure if I got you right and what you mean with "close the search menu" - clicking on the cross on the right which says "Reset search"?
Anyway:
A search across all folders for a specific string in the "From" AND the "To" header as described above does return messages with the string in the "From" header only.
A search across all folders for a specific string in the "To" header does ALSO return messages with the string in the "From" header only. So, messages with the string in the "To" header are NEVER found (but the search finds messages instead which should NOT be found).
Clicking on the cross on the right does not change the scope with regards to the headers ("From" and "To" are still ticked), it does only change the scope with regards to the folders ("Current folder" is now the active one rather than "All folders").
The above does only apply when searching across all folders. When searching in a specific folder (or the current folder plus sub-folders), the behaviour seems to be correct.
Replicable...?

No, the popup menu where you change the scope and fields to search for.

Then I don't know which scenario you mean and I can't replicate it - whenever I open and close the search menu, it seems to behave correct (at least visually, probably not internally). Or I am still misunderstanding your procedure.
But regardless of that, the following is still true (and as I have to search for messages quite often, it's a bit of a pain currently):
