I have upgraded my install of RC from 0.2.1 to the latest stable 0.3.x and now I notice that when I login to my IMAP account via RC, I show no new messages even though I know there are 20 new messages on the server. I don't have any other clients connected to the server like Thunderbird or Outlook but I do know from checking on the mail server directly that there are 20 new messages. I click the "Check for new messages" icon in the web interface and noting new pops in at all. I know its trying to check because I see the message window flash above the screen very quickly each time I press the "Check for new messages" icon. So no new messages flow in. I then open an old message completely. Then when I go back to my message list window, all my new messages appear. I don't understand why this is happening? It happens on my work and home PC which leads me to believe it is a system issue with RC, not my cached browser.
I did a fresh install from 0.2.1 > 0.3-stable on my server so I don't think I did anything wrong.
Can someone please help me understand what causes this problem? It's extremely annoying!

Hi Carlos,
I'm seeing almost the same behavior... do the new messages appear after you hit "F5" in your browser? That does it for me. But I agree, it is a strange behavior which didn't occur to me in 0.2.x, only since 0.3. Maybe there has been a bugfix in the coming release 0.3.1 ? Anybody got more info?
cheers, Claudio

I have not tried to see if "F5" works but I can tell you something is for sure wrong when the "Check new messages" button is not populating in the tons of messages I have sitting on my users mailbox. I noticed even if I let it sit for 30 minutes with pending new messages on the server, the RC application never is able to successfully download them to the message list for me to see so the whole time I am thinking I have no new messages when i fact I have many. This is a huge bug in my opinion! The only fix I know is to select and fully open an older message (preview pane view does not count) and then back out into the message list to see the new messages.

I had the same issue after switching to roundcube 0.3. As far as I understand it has to do with the message chaching of roundcube and it's documented in http://trac.roundcube.net/ticket/1486104 A workaround which works for me is to disable caching in roundcube. To do this set "$rcmail_config['enable_caching']=false" inside the config/main.inc.php. What kind of IMAP server do you have running? I had this issue with dovecot 1.0.15.

Good info. I will try that. Are there any functionality impacts to making that change?
I am running Dovecot 1.0.7-7.el5 (CentOS). _______________________________________________ List info: http://lists.roundcube.net/users/

FYI - I ran into the same issue, disabling caching fixed it. I'm running Dovecot 1.0.10 (Ubuntu)

I have the same problem. Not a huge problem but RC has never acted like this before and should not act like this now.

Not I am aware of. But my system only has a very low load because of only a few users using it. I guess the impact will be a performance drop off on systems with a high load. _______________________________________________ List info: http://lists.roundcube.net/users/

Seems that dovecot 1.0.x users have this issue. _______________________________________________ List info: http://lists.roundcube.net/users/
I have the same problem. I am using dovecot 1.2.6 on Fedora 11 x86_64, typically with Firefox 3.5. I already have caching disabled in main.inc.php, and I only ever see Roundcube show new messages if I manually refresh the window or click on Inbox. This used to work fine before 0.3.

I also have this problem. But disable caching does not help for me. I still have to switch folders to see new messages. I am quite sure, that this worked before in older Roundcube installations.

Some of those issues has been fixed in svn. So, use svn-trunk version or wait a few days for 0.3.1.
