As Roundcube 1.0-git [GIT 20130501.1356] is not usable with a mouse anymore in IE8: Is there any key with which I can switch from the folder pane to the pane with the list of messages?
When clicking on the INBOX, I can scroll with the Cursor keys through the list of messages of the INBOX in the message pane. But only in the INBOX, all other folders don't behave this way.
Anf of course, this mouse problem should be solved anway. In [GIT 20130422.1409]), that wasn't a problm, but since [GIT 20130501.1356] (or even before( it is one.
(The problem BTW is, that any mouse cick on a message sends the entire window to the background, i.e, it's becoming unvisible. That's why I'm asking for that keystroke.)

No such feature, but there's a ticket http://trac.roundcube.net/ticket/1487710

works for me.

I'm unable to reproduce (used IE 8.0.7600.16385).
ps. I think we should drop IE<9 support after 1.0 release.

Strange... Here it is IE 8.0.7601.17514, but that shouldn't make a difference. You did have more than one window open when you tested it, didn't you?
Another side effect is, that after clicking on a message, the disappearance of the Roundcube window, and clicking on the relevant button in the taskbar to get Roundcube back to the foreground again, a small rectangle is following the and attached to the mouse pointer, containing the subject of the message (see screenshot attached, of course you can't see the mouse pointer itself). Same visual behaviour as if you would want to move the message to a different folder. Pressing ESC makes this rectangle disappearing, but it also sends the Roundcube window to the background again, so you need to click on the relevant taskbar button again.
Something must have been changed between [GIT 20130422.1409] and [GIT 20130501.1356] which causes this problem.
Ah: I just found out that the problem goes away if the IE window in which Roundcube is running has more than just the Roundcube tab open. As soon as I open a second tab in the same IE window, the issue is gone. Probably that's why you were not able to reproduce it...?
BTW: Roundcube had the same issue before in 0.8.1, and it had been solved by Thomas in 0.8.2. On 22nd Oct 2012, he wrote to me:
Das wurde gezielt gefixt, da auch andere das Problem beobachtet und gemeldet hatten: http://trac.roundcube.net/changeset/e263994a/github
Der Aufruf $(document.activeElement).blur() ist dem IE nicht gut bekommen und hat eben dieses (eher unerwartete) Verhalten mit dem Fenster-Fokus ausgelöst.
So other IE users did encounter this problem as well, and IE apparently didn't like the call $(document.activeElement).blur(). Maybe you can check if you have re-invented this call after [GIT 20130422.1409] somewhere in the code...?

I beg to differ, as IE8 is still in use. Plus that the problem was solved already, re-inventing it is not a very good argument for dropping IE8 support entirely. Plus that the issue may even exist in IE9/10, but this I can't tell for sure.

Indeed, loosing support for IE8 would basically make roundcube a non-option here. Random googling shows that it accounts for 20+% of world wide market share right now and that represents many thousands of users to us. (We're having enough trouble with users on IE 5/6/7.)

drop IE7/IE8 is plain stupid to say it clear

drop IE7/IE8 is plain stupid to say it clear
- Windows XP is still supported for nearly a year
- Windows XP does not support > IE8
Plus that IE8 is the standard browser on a fresh Win7 installation and will therefore still be supported by MS even longer than just a year, I assume.
- at companies you can not decide a OS update
That's another true argument.
Thanks for the support, Kelsey and Harald.

works for me.
This is of course a totally different issue than the one mentioned in the subject, and probably my description wasn't clear enough:
Click on any folder, and then instantly press Cursor-down or Cursor-up. Can you then scroll through the messages in ALL folders? I can't, except:
Yesterday it worked for me only in the INBOX, currently it works for me only in the folder where the messages of this mailing list are being stored.
Apparently the rule is: It works only in the folder where you did lastly click with the mouse on a message. The great thing is that in this particular folder you are even starting the scrolling from the message which was the last viewed/clicked message of this folder. Unfortunately, it doesn't work at all in all other folders.
But that's a minor issue to me (as long as the mouse behaviour in IE8 will again and soon be solved).

They might be related. See http://trac.roundcube.net/ticket/1489058.

That's another and different issue/scenario. Yours is:
- select a message on the list
- click in preview pane (or in another element out of the messages list)
- now, I want to use arrow keys to move to next message, so I click on the currently selected message row to bring focus back on the list
- observe that keyboard actions on the list doesn't work.
First of all, this works for me with IE8 (see http://trac.roundcube.net/ticket/1489058#comment:3), so I can't see any issue here. Second, step 3. is exactly the one I wanted to avoid because of the strange reaction of IE8 when clicking on a message (which isn't an issue anymore after you reverted the fix).
My scenario is:
- Click on any folder.
- Press the Cursor-up/-down key (or arrow key, as you call it) to scroll through the message list.
This does work only in the folder where you did lastly click with the mouse on a message. I'm not sure if this is intentional (and if Roundcube has any intention at all in this situation), but that's the way it currently works.
Ideally, it should work in all folders. But I'm not sure if this is possible at all.

This is intentional. The list need to be focused somehow before you can use keyboard. Also to move up/down you need a starting point, right? It's selected message. The focus-thing here is important, because if focus is on preview pane user should be able to e.g. use arrow keys to scroll the message content.
Having a key to jump between folders list, messages list and preview pane would be nice. Then, maybe jump to messages list should select first message on the list. However, TAB has it's purpose in browsers, so I'm not sure we should overwrite it's behaviour.

Well, not necessarily. If you accidentally click on the folder where you did lastly click on any message (even if you may have clicked on other folders afterwards, but without clicking on any message in those folders), then apparently the message list of this particular is still "auto-focussed", although the focus is not visible.
Then, you can instantly use the cursor keys after the folder-click, starting from the message which had lastly been clicked/focussed (and not from the first one).
Also to move up/down you need a starting point, right?
Right, see above. I'm not sure if it is possible to recall the "last focussed message" for ANY folder, but if so - that would be the ideal way.
Having a key to jump between folders list, messages list and preview pane would be nice. Then, maybe jump to messages list should select first message on the list.
Or - see above - the last remembered focussed message.
However, TAB has it's purpose in browsers, so I'm not sure we should overwrite it's behaviour.
I'm very well aware that the Tab key is jumping from link to link on a website. But furthermore, I'm pretty sure that almost nobody is really using this purpose on a "standard" website (unless he's lacking of a mouse, of course).
But in the case of Roundcube, jumping from link to link does even make less sense than on a "standard" website. So I'd say: YES, we should overwrite it.
But if this is seen different by the Roundcube developers (and/or the majority of Roundcube users), then let's think about a different and "free" key. What about the "+" (= forward) and "-" (= backward) keys on the numeric keypad? This reminds me to the key assignments in the remote console of Novell NetWare 3.12.
The more I'm thinking about it, the more attractive it appears to me. So let's forget about the Tab key and go for the "+" and "-" keys... ;-)

Different issue. I'm talking about moving BETWEEN panes (wouldn't the Tab key a good key for that?), the ticket is about moving between folders WITHIN the folder pane.
