Hi all, it's possible to set a property for set signature and cursor before the message in a reply?
When we replay many times to an email your new text is in the bottom and not good for reading.
Thanks

For starters. TOFU is not proper email. http://www.massey.ac.nz/~tameyer/writing/quoting.html
Also, a standard conform signature is prefixed with "-- " which better mail clients automatically strip on reply.

I realize it is not proper netiquette (hopes to avoid that whole discussion/debate) - but there is a post in the roundcube forums for making such a change.

I helped a user in IRC with this simple change, not the placement of the cursor, but the blank lines above the reply.
I'm new to the list, but I did follow / participate back a few years ago, and this has been a long arduous discussion, about a fairly simple change.
I certainly understand both sides of the argument, but is it the place of the client to enforce netiquette, when it goes against the de-facto reply style of a large userbase?
Personally, I prefer the ability to choose between the two methods, rather than enforce one, and constantly field questions/patches from vocal users, and possibly annoy and alienate quiet users. It certainly wouldn't put RoundCube in a bad light, and might actually increase adoption.

Hehe. ;-)
I mean basically you can write your emails however you want. If you would like this feature I certainly wouldn't deny a patch. You could a) add an option to identities to add the signature to the top and b) another one to define the delimiter ("-- "). Probably makes sense to define it per email address so you can post to full-disclosure and don't get leveled for TOFU and still use TOFU with company email.
I think the so-called standard (signature at the bottom and "-- " as the delimiter) should be the default and then people can change these settings.

Just to add to this without fueling the fire. :-) Of course you can do whatever you want -- this is opensource! I also totally get why people want it, but I am not a fan of patching the core code of RoundCube.
Reasons: a) Makes maintenance harder (you will have to re-patch it with each update).
b) This patching generally leads to people updating less -- and we are not a 1.0 yet. There can be issues. Just remember the exploits from last year who were in 3rd party libs and we rolled out an update right away, but the worm in January/February still hit a lot of installations.

This is something that interests me, from the standpoint of getting (albeit, a small bit) deeper into the RC code. A relatively simple modification, that _helps_ someone.
Based on the previous message (your reply to me) a patch would be welcome, but then in this message, you note that you're not a fan of patching the core code of RoundCube. It may be a simple misunderstanding on my part, but are you meaning patching in the context of that forum posts solution, or patching for this feature altogether?
What I'd prefer is a preference / setting (like you mentioned, per identity) determining where the cursor should be on replies, as well as, including the signature above the quote, on a reply. Would this be a patch that would be more well received?

Mis-understanding. I don't recommend the patching of a .js file to people. The solution on the forum doesn't add anything, it just changes the default behavior for an entire install. If you want to supply a patch to make this an option for the user, that's totally fine and appreciated.

I think the so-called standard (signature at the bottom and "-- " as the delimiter) should be the default and then people can change these settings.
The double hyphen space delimiter is more than a " so called "
standard, it is part of RFC 2646 ( Section 4.3 ).
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2646.txt
There is a lot of software and many scripts that look for and make
assumptions based on that delimiter.
Changing that delimiter is not a good idea, even if some users
haven't been educated on its purpose and don't like it for some reason.
If a user wants to change their own copy of RoundCube code to shoot
themselves in the foot, that's OK, it doesn't hurt my foot. Making it
a configurable option for all users so they can shoot erroneously
( without knowing that they can hurt themselves ) isn't a very good
idea, IMHO.
As for top posting, please don't make it the default if it is
configurable.
