I just wanted to mention that there seems to be something wrong with
the roundcubemail-cvs-20060505 build currently available on the
sourceforge site. The entire message list blanks out and the apache2
logs get the old
PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent
in Unknown on line 0
error message.
I have tried with a few fresh copies, same results. roundcubemail- cvs-20060413 works fine, as does today's trunk.
Incidentally, I got the trunk by using
wget -m https://svn.roundcube.net/trunk/
It seems to work fine. Is something totally bunk about that method?

Scratch that, I'm getting lots of these errors even with the latest
trunk:
[Wed Jul 19 11:28:07 2006] [error] [client 192.168.1.105] PHP
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent in
Unknown on line 0
Sometimes they result in a blank message window, but generally I can
go on browsing. I don't really get the pattern yet.
I'm reasonably sure this isn't a problem in my config files, as I
have redone them many times with many different versions now.
Anyone have an idea what is causing this? As far as I can tell, its
limited to apache2. I have an installation running 20060505 on an
apache1 box, and it doesn't experience this. I also found one other
post referencing this, and it was apache2.
This is on Ubuntu 6.06. Thanks!

I've seen this error for weeks (months?) on my system; freebsd, apache2, php5, mysql 5 - but was told it was harmless, and assumed it'd be addressed. no I haven't checked if it's an entered bug - should have.

I haven't seen this in recent builds, even when the error shows up in the logs.

I have smtp logging enabled, as per the default. Still getting the messages. Why do you suspect that as the culprit?

look in the roundcube config.php, there is a logging directive there...
it helped me to spot various errors of this type...

I see what you were getting at. The complaint that is logged is:
[19-Jul-2006 22:43:59] PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information
program/include/rcube_shared.inc on line 121
However, that isn't getting generated each time apache2 complains,
which is pretty much on every action in roundcube. Here's an apache2
complaint:
[Thu Jul 20 11:41:56 2006] [error] [client 192.168.1.105] PHP
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent in
Unknown on line 0
Real informative. The relevant section in program/include/ rcube_shared.inc is:
118 // include meta tag with charset
119 if (!empty($this->charset))
120 {
121 header('Content-Type: text/html; charset='.$this-
charset);
122 $__page_header = '<meta http-equiv="content-type"
content="text/html; charset='.$this->charset.'" />'."\n"; 123 } 124
I don't know enough about what comes before this situation to
diagnose, frankly. I'm just putting it out there.
My theory is that the roundcube-logged complaints correspond to the
blanking of the window, and perhaps have something to do with caching
of different versions, because they seem to have gone away after
using one version for a little while. The copious apache2
complaints? I'll leave that to someone who has a clue about this code.
Thanks!

This is a common problem when one of the include file has a blank line (or any html) and when the code then try to set a header for the page.
I would look for any empty line after any "?>" or " ?php> " tag in any of the page or config file.

The latest Trunk version has output buffering enabled. That should solve all these problems.

I'm on the latest trunk and this isn't fixed. Is there a reason to favor the use of ob_start() instead of just leaving the scripts without a closing "?>"?

I now question any correlation between the error and the mail list going blank, although I'm not sure they aren't related either. Through persisting and refreshing, I am able to get the blanking to stop, so it could be attributable to something bad in my browser cache. Not sure.
On a side note, one ill effect of using wget from the browseable trunk to download a "snapshot" is that you get a bunch of index.html files in there which shouldn't be. Just fyi. Other than that, it seems to work. But maybe I'll get subversion downloaded anyway.
Thanks!
