some webhosters use logins different than the email addresses. therefor it would be useful to specify login aliases, as email addresses are easier to remember than randomly generated accounts ids. could this be added to the user settings? i want to login with email@myhost.com instead of 3463246
The users table in the RoundCube database has a separate col for login aliases. Unfortunately there's not UI to fill it in, you have to set it manually using your favorite database admin tool.
In case you have specified a virtuser file in your config ($rcmail_config['virtuser_file']) the e-mail address will be looked up on the first login (with your cryptic user name) and will then be added automatically to the alias col. Virtuser files are text files that have an email -> username pair on each line.

P.S. This is more a question to the users mailing list rather than the developers list.
