hello everyone! I am interested in a Java port of RoundCube. Since I am a Java programmer, I am looking for people how are interested in a Java port and, of course, other Java programmers who want to help.
If someone knows a java-based webmail with usable code, let me know please. That might be labour saving :-)
The goal is to create a mail system that can easily be integrated in Java homepages (CMS), using the advantages of java.
regards, Tobias
Maybe even integrating it into James... the java based mail server.

Wouldn't it just be easier to write a different Java-based AJAX Client?

I think that port RoundCube to java isn't a good idea (One of the best things in RoundCube for me, is that it's written in php :D).
But (since you are interested in a Java-based Ajax client..), have you ever heard about Zimbra? It is not only a Webmail, but a "Collaboration Suite". It's written in java and uses Ajax too..

Are you talking about doing it in servlets or an applet? Either way, java seems like overkill for a webmail client IMHO.

Well I tend to agree php is light for both sides server and client. Perhaps I don't understand fully the author(s) motivation, but I don't think it was what they wanted. If you would like to know there is an existing webmail java servlet based it's called "jwebmail" http://jwebmail.sourceforge.net/ and it certainely needs to be revived..
Bye
