Hi,
It seems that RoundCube is going to enter the official Debian archives soon.
Thomas, congratulations! :)

Dear mentors,
I am looking for a sponsor for my package "roundcube".
It builds these binary packages: roundcube - modern, skinable, AJAX based webmail solution for IMAP servers
The package is lintian clean.
The upload would fix these bugs: 333756, 344949
The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
main contrib non-free
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/r/roundcube/roundcube_0.099+0.1b2...
I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.
This is still a beta quality software but I use it happily every day. The package uses dbconfig-common to configure database. It supports sqlite, MySQL and PostgreSQL backend. To avoid to pull too much packages, it does not depend on any of those backends. Any comment on this is welcome. I have put a note in README.Debian.
The other question is that roundcube requires a temp directory. I have modified the config file to create /var/tmp/roundcube. I don't know what should be the best way. If the directory already exists, it can be a security risk (the user owning the directory could delete files or put symlinks in it). Maybe should I put this temporary directory in /var/lib/roundcube instead ?
Kind regards Vincent Bernat

Cool news :)
Hi,
the copyrightfile seems to very incomplete! You need to add every licence in your copyright of the software you use. Perhaps you use prototype or some not own phplibs. All these licence must be shown!

Hi,
It seems that RoundCube is going to enter the official Debian archives soon.
So what is the status now? It is not in debian at the moment so i think it was rejected. Do you need help with the package? I also can contact a sponsor if the package is clean. If it was rejected what was the reason?
regards, Frank
It hasn't made it into debian but it did make it into ubuntu: http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=roundcube&...
Personally, I never saw the point in putting web based apps in the debian repository.
I guess I'm just picky but I'd rather install this sort of app in the location I choose and maintain it on my own since it doesn't require recompilation and it doesn't have any dependencies other than PHP/MySQL/Apache.
I guess it gives another option to those that don't want to do that.

I suggested in the past that roundcube must be in Debian repositories and I am happy to hear it almost do it!, but Matt is right, the "traditional" way to install roundube in a single location keep close control of the app. Anyway, I am happy to hear roundcube is growing everyday.
Thanks Roundcube Devs!
Regards,
Víctor.

I absolutely agree with you. Especially considering the already convoluted nature of Debian's repositories, and the ever present discussion of "vanity" apps that are so prevelant as well. I see having an apt-get roundcoube could possibly even make installation of roundcube more confusing. I don't know if anyone else has tried installing web apps from the Debian repository, but its made much more complicated than it should be. Just some thoughts from a huge fan of roundmail, and even bigger whore for debian.
