Just so we don't feel it's just us, here the Fink developers rant about their lack of production due to the extended SF outage...

Sounds like they too are looking for another solution.

Hello all,
I was just curious what everyone was looking for. A free solution that includes source control, SVN, CVS, darcs, etc., with some sort of web interface to list the source and submit tickets? I was just curious because i was thinking about offering such a service with my small hosting company, but not sure if we can do it for free...

Trac provides all of this, and is free: http://www.edgewall.com/trac/ Last I heard that's what we were going to setup.

My number one concern is that the developer CVS/SVN is hosted by some one or some group with accountability. Sourceforge is down right now with a disk failure I guess. The thing is that disk failures happen all the time to anyone. At least with sourceforge we know that their business hinges on protecting CVS data (even if it means extended downtime). I'm not defending sourceforge. The downtime ahs been unacceptable and their user communication has been even worse, but at least they do backups/redundancy and the whole works. I'd be happy with a solution where we move everything off of sourceforge except the developer cvs/svn. Or that we move the devloper cvs/svn to a different but similar service such as:

If people are really looking for somewhere to host some of their services I may be able to help. I've emailed Thomas asking if he wants to colocate a server with us and if others are interested then let me know. We have recently deployed roundcube ourselves so to give something back to the community we are offering bandwidth/hosting to for Roundcube to Thomas. If others would like to host with us also then please let me know. We have no shortage of space or bandwidth so it wouldn't be a problem.
(details on website below for those interested)
Thanks, Gavin

Exactly. And those of you who admin a project on SF should have recieved a newsletter this morning updating you on the process. To cut to the chase: They plan to roll out the new infrastructure tomorrow and made tons of improvements (especially regarding the stability and "up-to-date-ness" of their public CVS services).
So I guess a little more patience is not bad.

I don't know if you've the last SF mail, but aparently this afternoon CVS will be back up, but with some changes. :-( (well, nothing that can't be modified with find ... :-D).
Just can't wait to get my hands on the latest CVS :-D
